.SYNOPSIS...

Warm conditions will continue through Thursday ahead of an incoming
cold front for the weekend. This front will result in strong winds
areawide Thursday and Friday with a chance for light showers and
cooler temperatures this coming weekend. Warm and dry conditions are
favored next week.

.SHORT TERM...

Increasing winds and a cool off towards the weekend will be the main
story over the next couple days as an upper level trough and cold
front move through the region. A stiff surface gradient will
materialize by Thursday afternoon which will produce gusty southwest
winds across the region with widespread gusts mainly in the 35-45
mph range. Winds across the Sierra ridgetop will also strengthen,
particularly Thursday evening into Friday morning with gusts nearing
80-90 mph.

Friday is still leaning towards being the windiest of the two days,
particularly south of US-50 across the Sierra and western Nevada
with gusts potential of 50+ mph possible. Elsewhere, gusty southwest
winds in the 30-40 mph are expected. Wind prone locations could see
gusts in excess of 60 mph particularly along wind prone canyons
along US-395 and through US-95 along Walker Lake.

Hazardous boating conditions will be widespread across all area
lakes Thursday and Friday with rough waters expected. Crosswind
issues may result in travel restrictions, particularly for high
profile vehicles. Areas of blowing dust will be possible downwind
of desert sinks and dry lake beds. As such, we have issued a Blowing
Dust Advisory for the western Nevada Basin and Range mainly across
Pershing and Churchill county.

The strongest winds on Friday will shift from south of US-50 into
Mono and Mineral counties primarily with winds northward of the
frontal boundary beginning to weaken through the afternoon. The
cold front will also result in a much cooler day on Friday with high
temperatures dropping 10-15 degrees over Thursday. Fuentes

.LONG TERM...Saturday and Beyond...

Saturday evening an elongated trough extending down to southern
Nevada will be exiting our region. Behind it, a flattened ridge will
pave the way for zonal flow, keeping conditions calm and quiescent
throughout next week. Saturday's high temperature will be the
coolest of the period, peaking in the low 70's for western NV
valleys and around 60 for Sierra valleys. Temperatures will steadily
increase throughout the week, getting up to the low 90's on
Wednesday for lower sinks/valleys. This Saturday will feature breezy
SW-W winds of 15-20 gusting 25-30 mph, followed by light zephyr
breezes continuing through the week. Based on current ensemble
guidance, this zonal pattern doesn't appear to shift much, even into
late next week.

.AVIATION...

SW winds will be increasing throughout the afternoon today with
clear skies. LLWS of 35-40 kts will be a concern tonight from
midnight tonight to noon tomorrow for terminals east and along the
Sierra. High clouds will be building in overnight for terminals east
of the Sierra.

High winds will be impacting the region tomorrow and Friday
afternoon with an approaching cold front. Thursday we can expect
winds to gust up to 35 kts out of the SW for western NV valleys and
Sierra valleys. Friday will be slightly windier with SW-W 40-45 kt
gusts. LLWS will still be a concern tomorrow and Friday afternoon.

.FIRE WEATHER...

* Strong and gusty winds are expected beginning Thursday with
  stronger winds shifting south of US-50 by Friday afternoon as a
  cold front moves through the region.

* Peak gusts of 35-45 mph are expected on Thursday and Friday with
  wind prone locations along US-395 and US-95 having the potential
  to see gusts of 50-60 mph, particularly on Friday.

* The combination of gusty winds and low RH (below 15%) would
  necessitate the issuance of Red Flag Warnings. However, area fuel
  specialists have indicated that fuels have not yet reached
  critical levels over a widespread and continuous area yet.

* Nonetheless, fire weather concerns will remain on the table for
  isolated areas of any critically dry fuels with winds of this
  magnitude still having potential to allow for rapid fire spread.
