Latest high res data indicates min rhs dropping into critical
levels (min rh down to around 15 percent) through the late
afternoon in Teller County, and with continued breezy westerly
winds of 20 to 40 mph, have added FWZ 221 into the Red Flag
Warning for today.

Also updated pops across central mts, with observations and
cameras indicating some occasional light snow/flurries flying
in Leadville.

slightly in regards to the front that will push in from the east
later this afternoon.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)

Key Messages:

1)Fire Weather concerns continue today, with widespread Red Flag
conditions across the area, with breezy winds and low relative
humidity.

The region will experience slightly increasing westerly flow aloft
today, allowing for breezy winds to mix down to the surface over a
large portion of our CWA. Have kept the Red Flag Warning as-is for
now, but with the latest model guidance winds over the eastern
plains look a bit more gusty, and confidence in meeting Red Flag
criteria consistently has increased. Looking at moisture, a few
lingering snow showers will remain over some parts of the
Continental Divide, but very little accumulation is expected. The
rest of the area will remain very dry, with RHs in the single digits
or just above over most of our forecast zones. Surface winds will
mainly be from the west-northwest, gusting up to 25-30 knots during
the afternoon. Strongest winds will occur just lee of the higher
terrain, both over the San Luis Valley and Upper Arkansas as well as
parts of the I-25 corridor, mainly near and east of the main gap
flows.

Later this afternoon into early evening, a front is expected to push
in from the northeast, causing a surge of gusty east winds over
the eastern plains, which will serve to temporarily enhance Fire
Weather conditions around this time, before the sun sets and RH
starts to recover. Beyond that, winds will taper off later in the
day into the overnight hours. High temperatures today will climb
into the mid- 70s over much of the eastern plains, with low-mid
60s over the majority of the rest of our area. Low temps tonight
will be in the 30s.

Key Messages:

1) Fire weather concerns continue on Saturday, with a Fire Weather
Watch now in effect for the San Luis Valley, southeast mountains, and
southern I-25 corridor.

2) Light snow possible across the central mountains Saturday night.
Precip chances then look low for the remainder of the period.

3) Fire weather concerns Sunday into the early part of next week,
and quite possibly through the remainder of the period.

Increasing flow along with more energetic flow expected at the start
of the period, ahead of a low amplitude wave. Don't anticipate
precip chances during the day Saturday, though mid and high clouds
will likely push overhead. A slightly cooler air mass in place
during this time will support slightly cooler temps, but high temps
still anticipated to rise well into the 60s across the plains and
mountain valleys. As the stronger and more energetic flow moves
overhead, will see winds and gusts increase over much of southern
Colorado by midday and into the afternoon hours. Dewpoints are
expected to fall during this time, with the more notable drops
expected to west of the I-25 corridor. These conditions are
appearing to lead to critical fire weather conditions along the
southern I-25 corridor, the southeast mountains, and the San Luis
Valley and so have issued a Fire Weather Watch for these locations
on Saturday. Mid/Upper wave then arrives Saturday night, helping to
bring a short window of light to moderate snow to the central
mountains. The forcing and snow quickly depart by Sunday morning,
with any amounts expected to be light at this time.

Stronger westerly flow expected to still be in place on Sunday, that
will support warming temps back to above normal, and a drying air
mass. This setup may support the development of critical fire

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Gusty westerly winds of 20 to 40 mph combined with dry conditions
will create critical fire weather conditions across most of the
snow free areas of south central and southeast Colorado into the
early evening. The westerly winds across the far southeast plains
will shift east to northeast this afternoon, as a cold front backs
into eastern Colorado later this afternoon and evening.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Critical fire weather conditions will be less widespread on
Saturday but will likely return across the San Luis Valley,
southeast mountains, and southern portions of the I-25 corridor.
Critical fire weather conditions will be possible each day from
Sunday into next week with conditions looking most widespread for
Sunday and Tuesday.
