A band of precip was still ongoing extending from the San
Juans...to the southern San Luis valley...to the southern Sangres
and then eastward onto the plains. This band is expected to weaken
as it moves southeast through the rest of the morning.

As for additional snow, The SLV and southern Sangres will still
seee a period of snow for the next hour or two and then it will
decrease. In the meantime, the showers may be pretty heavy (per
ALS Viero web cams) for a time period. \/Hodanish

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
Issued at 405 AM MDT Mon Apr 4 2022

1) Lingering showers will cease around noon today.

2) Heavy wind driven snow over the Sawatch and northern Mosquito
Mountains will begin this evening. A Winter Weather Advisory has
been issued for those regions beginning at 9pm.

Currently...

Lingering snow and rain showers are ongoing over mountains, mountain
valleys, and the plains. Fog hasn't really developed of El Paso
County due to a strong dew point depression. Areas on the foothills
of the Ramparts have seen especially low ceilings, which could
result in fog, which has been modified in the forecast.

Today and Tonight...

The snow and rain showers will continue through late morning over
the mountain valleys and the mountains, however the intensity should
lessen by around 9am, which is when the Winter Storm Warning and the
Winter Weather Advisories expire.

Overall it'll be a nice day. Clouds begin to clear out by mid day
with some mountain induced waves clouds replacing them by the
evening. Temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s for the majority of
the region. The calm weather won't last for long, however. By late
this evening a very strong jet streak will reach Colorado enhancing
wind speeds over the higher elevations. Snow will begin to fall over
the Sawatch and Mosquito Mountains during the late evening. The
moderate to heavy snowfall and the strong winds led us to issue a
Winter Weather Advisory over the Sawatch and Mosquito Mountains from
9pm Monday through midnight on Wednesday. Snow totals will be
highest over the northern Sawatch, with amounts up to 10 inches,
whereas the rest of the mountains under the advisory will get around
2 to 6 inches. All of which will have wind driven snow.

Key messages:

1) Strong and damaging wind potential over and near the higher
   terrain Tuesday.

2) Critical fire weather potential across the southeast plains
   Tuesday through Friday.

Latest models continue to advertise a strong short wave and
associated 140 kt jet core translating across the Intermountain West
Monday night which remains progged to dig across the Rockies
through the day Wednesday carving out a broad upper low across the
Upper Midwest by Wednesday morning. Latest models continue to
indicate mtn top west to northwest winds increasing to between
45-65kt through the day Tuesday, with the strongest winds across
the northern and central mts into the Pikes Peak region. Although
x-sections do not indicate a strong downslope wind signal with too
much forward shear, the expected strong winds support a high wind
watch across the higher terrain of Fremont County and Teller
County from 12Z Tuesday to 00Z Wednesday, with expected mixing
helping to bring the stronger winds aloft down across the upper
and mid Arkansas River Valley and into northern portions of the
I-25 Corridor of El Paso and Pueblo Counties, where could see
strong westerly winds gusting up to 60 mph Tuesday afternoon.
Gusty westerly winds of 25 to 45 mph will also spread out across
the plains later Tuesday morning and afternoon, before winds
become more northerly behind a cold front moving across the plains
through the late afternoon and evening. The breezy conditions and
warm temperatures ahead of the front will lead to increased fire
danger and possible critical fire weather conditions across the
plains Tuesday afternoon, however, did not go with any fire
weather watches at this time, as humidity levels are still progged
to be in the 20 percent range. Models continue to support
orographic snowfall across the northern and into the central mtns,

of the Sawatch Range through the day Tuesday, before snow and
blowing snow diminishes Tuesday evening.

Breezy to windy northerly flow remains progged across the region
Wednesday and Thursday before gradually diminishing Friday, as the
Upper Midwest upper low continues to move east as upper level
ridging builds across the Great Basin. Models also continue to
support much drier air moving into the region within the northerly
flow, leading to possible critical fire weather conditions being met
across southeast Colorado through the end of the work week. The most
widespread conditions look to be on Wednesday, though could continue
Thursday and Friday across the far southeast plains where gradient
flow and expected mixing will be the strongest.

Warmer, drier and less windy conditions look to develop across the
region for Saturday before another system digging across the Great
Basin brings more precipitation to the ContDvd and more wind to the
region for later Sunday and into early next week.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Lingering snow will last through the morning over the eastern
mountains. Additional snowfall amounts will be around an inch.
Snow redevelops over the Sawatch and Mosquito Mountains tonight.
Storm total snow will be around 6-10 inches over the northern
Sawatch Mountains and 3 to 6 over the rest of the previously
mentioned areas.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday

A strong jet stream moving across the Rockies will be bring strong
and possibly damaging westerly winds of 30 to 40 mph, gusting to
between 50 and 75 mph at times, to areas over and near the higher
terrain on Tuesday. The strongest winds are expected across the
central mountains and upper and middle Arkansas River Valley into
the Pikes Peak region. This system will also bring snow and blowing
snow to the higher terrain of the central mountains through the
day Tuesday, with difficult travel conditions expected, especially
north of Cottonwood Pass.

Breezy to windy westerly winds will spread out across the southeast
Plains Tuesday afternoon, and combined with persistent dry conditions,
will lead to the potential for critical fire weather conditions across
the plains on Tuesday.

Breezy to windy conditions are expected to continue across the area
Wednesday and Thursday before diminishing Friday and into early next
weekend. This will also lead to the potential for critical fire weather
conditions across portions of central and southeast Colorado Wednesday
through Friday, with the most widespread conditions expected on
Wednesday.
