.SYNOPSIS...
Temperatures will be cooler today and there will be less wind.
Another weather system brings windy conditions beginning Thursday
evening in southeast California and expanding across the Arizona
deserts Friday. Temperatures will also turn much cooler Friday
with highs on the lower deserts in the mid 70s to near 80. The
system will have very limited moisture and light rain chances will
be limited to southeast California and northern Arizona. A warming
trend begins over the weekend and by Tuesday desert highs will be
in the mid to upper 90s.

.DISCUSSION...
Yesterday's dry weather system will leave behind cooler
temperatures and lighter winds - though there will still be
afternoon breeziness. The next system to affect the region is
centered off the Pacific Northwest coast. The system will move
across the forecast area Thursday night and Friday. There is good
model agreement that as the system moves through the western CONUS
it will be a lot deeper over the Desert Southwest than the
previous one. Thus, we will see a big drop in high temperatures
from Thursday to Friday. In fact, the lower deserts will only
reach the mid 70s to near 80 (about a 20 degree difference from
Tuesday's highs).

The passage of a weather system, especially at this time of year,
means windy conditions as well. The ECMWF EFI depicts the
strongest winds will be on Friday but values exceeding 0.7 over
our forecast area are limited. NBM and EPS data indicate that
speeds will be a little higher than they were on Tuesday but not a
major wind event. For our forecast area, windy conditions develop
Thursday evening over portions of southeast California (mainly
Imperial County). In the lower levels above the surface, that is
where the strongest winds will be. But, it occurs overnight. So
the full potential may not be realized - though cool advection
could offset that.

Moisture with the end-of-week system will be quite limited with a
lot of rain shadowing happening caused by the southwest
California mountains. But, this time, the PoPs for our forecast
area are limited to southeast California and northern La Paz
County. Otherwise, PoPs remain north of our forecast area. In
fact, the NBM 90th percentile 12hr QPF shows only a couple of
small areas with anything at all.

Over weekend, anticipate less wind but still some breeziness with
a transition to northerly directions. Temperatures begin to warm
as well. The warming trend continues through Tuesday as a ridge of
high pressure tracks across the west. That means the lower deserts
reaching the mid 90s to near 100 by Tuesday (20-40% chance of PHX
reaching 100).

.AVIATION...Updated at 1705Z.

South-Central Arizona including KPHX, KIWA, KSDL, and KDVT:
Diurnal winds will predominate through Thursday. Seasonably
breezy conditions are also anticipated with afternoon gusts likely
reaching 20 kt this afternoon and again Thursday afternoon.
Otherwise, skies will remain mostly clear.

Southeast California/Southwest Arizona including KIPL and KBLH:
Windy conditions are expected at KIPL with gusts peaking this
evening around 30 kt. Winds will subside somewhat Thursday morning
before strengthening again in the afternoon. Meanwhile at KBLH,
breezy, southwesterly winds will continue through this evening
before tapering off overnight. Peak gusts around 20 kt are
anticipated.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Friday through Tuesday:
A cold front sweeps across the forecast area on Friday bringing
windy conditions and much cooler temperatures (high temps on the
lower deserts in the mid to upper 70s). Moisture with the system
will be limited with modest precipitation chances being limited to
southeast CA and northern La Paz County Thursday night into
Friday. Because of the cooler temperatures, humidities will be
higher (Max RH of 15-25%). Thus, at this time, it is anticipated
that critical thresholds will not quite be met. But, elevated fire
weather conditions will be present. Over the weekend, winds won't
be as strong, but there will still be some breeziness with a
change to northerly directions. MinRH values drop to 10-15%
Saturday due to drier air and slightly warmer temperatures. MaxRH
values drop substantially for Sunday morning with values of 20-40%
(down about 20% from the previous morning). Single digit MinRH
values arrive Sunday with additional warming. The warming trend
continues through Tuesday with lower desert highs in the mid 90s
to near 100. An uptick in breeziness begins Tuesday as well.
