.SYNOPSIS...
Weak high pressure will remain in the region overnight. Weak
low pressure will develop across the Great Lakes and track into
New York state along a cold front on Friday. This cold front
will move into New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania Friday night
or Saturday. Then as the front begins to weaken, it will stall
near or just south of the area the remainder of the weekend.
High pressure should return Sunday and remain into Monday. A
weak cold front will move into the region on Tuesday with
another stronger cold front expected Wednesday or early
Thursday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Early this morning...Weak high pressure is moving to the east,
with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms forming
over central PA. This convection appears to be generating on a
weak mid-level wave and a pre-frontal trough axis. The greatest
chance of precipitation appears to be across the western zones
as the best forcing for ascent heads northeast. Lows will
remain mild again with readings falling to the upper 60s N/W and
low 70s elsewhere. Light and variable winds expected.

Friday...Low pressure to the north across NY will cause a weak
cold front to drift towards northern parts of the CWA late. The
trend over the past few model runs is to slow this front down.
It will still be close enough to create some scattered showers
and tstms for the late morning and afternoon hours. Pops have
been reduced a bit, but still are in the high chc to low likely
range for the northern parts of the region. Further south,
mostly chc or slight chc pops are in the fcst for Friday. The
SPC maintains a marginal chc for severe weather for the NJ/NY
state line areas for Fri. Highs again will be well above normal
with upper 80s/low 90s for the area. Humidity levels will be
moderately uncomfortable with dew points mostly in the mid/upper
60s.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
The front will not actually complete its passage until sometime
Saturday morning. Available hi-res guidance suggests that some
scattered lingering showers and thunderstorms will hang around
through the first half of the overnight hours Saturday morning,
though coverage looks to be sparse with a lack of strong
forcing. Did keep schc PoPs in for Friday night. Lows Friday
will fall in the upper 60s to low 70s owing to some lingering
cloud cover.

The surface front will finally pass through the region Saturday
morning. There will not be much of a temperature or dew point
drop behind the front with the new airmass, nor will the front
spark off much in the way of precipitation. The upper trough
will hang around through Saturday afternoon, though heights will
rise very slowly throughout the day. Despite some weak
lingering PVA rounding the trough during and after the front
passes, the first half of the day should be dry. The front will
progress far enough offshore through the afternoon that any
later shower and thunderstorm chances will be confined to the
developing sea breeze where forecast soundings indicate
potentially steep low level lapse rates with moderate
instability present. Elsewhere, mid-level dry air and and
building high pressure over the Great lakes will keep
precipitation chances at bay. Highs Saturday will just be a tick
lower than Friday with mid-upper 80s and upper 70s in the
Poconos.

By Sunday, the upper trough will be shunted north and east by
building upper ridging over the southeastern part of the country
that tries to nose its way north into our area. Guidance is in
good agreement on a shortwave rounding the top of the ridge on
Sunday and trying to spark off a few showers and storms. It
ultimately looks to be a battle between rising heights and the
shortwave energy for an for precipitation chances; with the
surface high now off to the east across New England, the overall
forcing isn't great so opted to go with blanket schc PoPs
mainly during the afternoon when peak heating and the sea breeze
overlap with the crossing shortwave to provide the best forcing
for ascent. Overall coverage again should be isolated. Highs
will top out very similarly to Saturday in the mid- upper 80s.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The period begins with surface high pressure centered off to
our northeast. The high is forecast to remain in place into
Tuesday but weaken. A weak cold front will drop into the area on
Tuesday night or early Wednesday. A secondary, stronger cold
front will track across the forecast area sometime on Wednesday
or early Thursday. High pressure will then return on Thursday.

Aloft, the mid-level ridge builds Sunday night into Monday. A
more zonal flow is expected for Tuesday. A long-wave trof is
then expected to deepen across eastern Canada and the
northeastern U.S on Wednesday with it's axis moving east of us
on Thursday.

While an isolated shower/thunderstorm cannot be ruled out later
on Monday north and west of the 95, a better chance exists
Tuesday afternoon and evening as the weak cold front moves into
the region. The chance of showers and thunderstorms also exists
on Wednesday with the secondary front.

Overnight lows are expected to be at or above normal levels
through the period. The same goes for afternoon highs.

.AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Early this morning...Mainly VFR. Scattered showers with
isolated thunder are possible after 07Z. Variable wind 5 knots
or less. Medium confidence.

Today... Mainly VFR with scattered to broken clouds. Winds will
be out the west/ southwest today as a cold front slowly
approaches from the northwest. Uncertainty on coverage of
convection this afternoon remains low as surface convergence and
upper level forcing appears weak. Given that though, there is
not much in the way to hinder convective initiation. Due to
this, have included a VCSH mention in the TAF sites for now, but
this might have to be upgraded to VCTS in the 12z TAF issuance.
Winds will also be around 10 kts today with some gusts of 15 to
20 kts. Medium confidence.

Tonight... VFR. A surface cold front will approach from the
north late tonight helping to veer winds around from the
north. How far south the cold front makes it is still uncertain.
The general thought is for the wind shift to make it through all
of the TAF sites by Saturday morning around sunrise.

Outlook...

Saturday... Mainly VFR, though a slight afternoon shower and
thunderstorm chance could reduce to MVFR. Southwest winds,
becoming northwesterly after the morning frontal passage, at
5-10 knots. Moderate confidence.

Sunday... Mainly VFR. A chance of a shower or thunderstorm.
Easterly winds at 5-10 knots. Moderate confidence.

Sunday night...Mainly VFR. Restrictions possible due to patchy
fog overnight. SE winds 5 to 10 kts. Moderate confidence.

Monday and Monday night...Mainly VFR. Restrictions possible due
to early morning fog and then isolated afternoon and evening
showers and thunderstorms specifically for KABE and KRDG. SE to
S winds 5 to 15 kts. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday...Mainly VFR. Restrictions possible due to scattered
showers and thunderstorms. Southwest winds 5 to 15 kts. Moderate
confidence.

.MARINE...
Fair weather expected overnight and scattered tstms are on tap
for Friday. Now that the high pressure has passed east of the
area, winds should stay mostly S or SE tonight. Winds speeds
mostly around 10 knots. On Friday, South to southeast winds will
increase thru the day, approaching SCA criteria during the
afternoon. We'll hold off on any SCA flag attm since it appears
marginal and rather short duration.

Outlook...

Saturday... No marine headlines expected. A chance of a shower
or thunderstorm in the afternoon. Southwesterly winds 15-20
knots with gusts to 25 knots in the early morning, becoming
northwesterly at 5- 10 knots in the afternoon. Seas 3-4 feet in
the morning, becoming 2- 3 feet in the afternoon.

Sunday... No marine headlines expected. A slight chance of a
shower or thunderstorm. Easterly winds 5-10 knots. Seas 2-3
feet.

Sunday night...Sub-SCA levels. SE winds 5 to 10 kts. Seas
around 2 ft.

Monday and Monday night...Sub-SCA conditions. SE to S winds 5
to 15 kts. Seas 2 to 3 ft.

Tuesday...Sub-SCA conditions. SW winds mainly 5-15 kts with
gusts up to 30 kts. Seas 2 to 4 ft.

Rip currents...

For Friday, a southerly wind along the coast will once again
increase to 10-20 mph during the late morning and afternoon
hours. A southeasterly swell of 2-3 feet with a period of around
7 seconds is forecast. This combined with breaking waves in the
surf zone of around 2 feet will result in a LOW risk for the
development of dangerous rip currents along the New Jersey Shore
and Delaware Beaches. This may increase to MODERATE however
mostly for the New Jersey beaches if the wind becomes more
southeast, however will maintain a LOW risk for now.

For Saturday, the wind is forecast to become more from the east
to southeast but a little lighter with speeds around 10 mph.
This could be enhanced some by the development of an afternoon
sea breeze. A southeasterly swell of around 2 feet with a period
of around 7 seconds should persist. Given the more onshore wind
component, despite lower speeds, there should still be a decent
swell contribution. As a result, opted to go with a MODERATE
risk for the development of dangerous rip currents at the New
Jersey Shore and Delaware Beaches.
