.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will slowly approach the region as a surface low slides
through the Great Lakes. The front will move offshore late tomorrow
with high pressure moving in for the midweek period. Another cold
front will move in towards the end of the week, with high
pressure settling in for the weekend in the wake of the front.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Widespread showers and thunderstorms this morning have produced
scattered areas of locally heavy rainfall and some isolated
cases of flash flooding. The wave associated with this activity
will continue to lift north of the area into the early
afternoon, with the more widespread activity passing into the
lower Hudson Valley, although the warm front should stall out
across the northern tier of the area. Additional scattered
showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop later this
afternoon and early evening as surface based instability builds
near and south of the warm front.

To our west, a longwave trough axis will push an surface low across
upstate New York and a trailing cold front towards our area from the
Ohio Valley. Another shortwave and associated vorticity maxima will
eject from the trough axis later this afternoon, which will likely
help re-develop additional showers and thunderstorms.

The main concern will continue to be localized poor drainage and
potential flash flooding today. There is currently a Marginal
excessive rainfall outlook for most of the CWA from
Wilmington/Philadelphia northward with PWATs around 2 inches.
WPC has updated portions of northern and central New Jersey to
a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall as of late this morning.
There is some concern for back building with southwesterly winds
through the column from the 850 mb level upward, with
southeasterly winds below this. The good news is that storm
motion is a little stronger than yesterday with 0-6 km mean wind
from 15 to 20 knots. Storm total rainfall through 2 am will
range from around 2 inches locally over northern New Jersey to
around a quarter to half of an inch along the southern New
Jersey coast.

Highs today will stay held back thanks to the overcast skies, making
it into the upper 70s to lower 80s. However, recent observations
indicate temperatures overperforming a bit from the previous
forecast, so I have increased temperatures a couple degrees
through this afternoon. A few readings in the low to mid 70s
will be found over the Poconos.

Showers and thunderstorms will gradually push off to the east
tonight, moving east of the urban corridor around midnight or so.
Lows will range from the upper 60s to around 70 over Philadelphia.
Some patchy fog is also possible as winds won't be particularly
strong behind the front and continued drying occurs from today's
rains.

The cold front will continue to push offshore of our area into
Tuesday as the main mid-level trough associated with the surface low
deamplifies and slowly ejects to our north and east. A weak surface
trough on the back side of the low may help kick off a few
instability showers and thunderstorms into the afternoon, mostly
along and north of the I-78 corridor. The latest guidance has
trended a bit drier overall for Tuesday, but I have kept PoPs
ranging from slight chance across the southern areas to likely
for the northern tier for Tuesday afternoon. Instability isn't
all that impressive, but with MUCAPE values up to 1500 J/kg,
some embedded thunder to weak thunderstorms may occur. There
could also be some small hail, due to steeper mid- level lapse
rates and CAPE through the 0 to -20C freezing layer.

Highs will bounce back upward with clearer skies Tuesday, making it
into the low 80s north and west of I-95 and the mid to upper 80s
along and southeast of I-95.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Tuesday night through Thursday looks rather quiet as we will be in
the middle between a stalled front offshore and a front over the
Great Lakes coming in from Canada. An upper level trough axis will
pass on Thursday morning, but the only result should be some mid to
high level clouds moving through. At the surface, high pressure over
the region will be in control through the midweek period.

Tuesday night will be rather quiet. Any showers/thunderstorms that
form in the afternoon will dissipate around or shortly after sunset.
Some patchy fog may develop overnight, mainly in rural areas. Any
fog that does form will burn off shortly after sunrise. Overnight
lows will be in the 60s.

A rather nice pair of summer days are expected for Wednesday and
Thursday. While temperatures will get into the upper 80s on
Wednesday, humidity will not be nearly as oppressive compared to
earlier in the month. We should get some decent mixing through the
afternoon on each day, with dewpoints anticipated to be in the upper
50s and low 60s. This will result in the heat index being very close
to the air temperature. Skies will be mostly clear with the
exception of diurnal cu for both afternoons. Highs on Thursday will
be a tad higher, with most of the area getting into the low 90s.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Generally followed the NBM guidance for the Long Term, and there
were not many significant changes from the previous forecast.

Conditions should be mainly dry Thursday night ahead of an
approaching cold front. Without much in the way of upper support,
not expecting much precip with its passage Friday afternoon and
Friday evening. For now, chance PoPs look good. 12Z GFS is slower
than the 12Z ECMWF, but both models have minimal QPF. High pressure
builds in from the north, and will be situated over the Northeast
through the weekend, but looks to slide towards the Gulf of Maine
late Sunday. Meanwhile, a weak area of low pressure looks to develop
over the Southeast U.S. Depending on the position of the high, it
remains to be seen how far north precip associated with that low can
get. Saturday and Sunday should mostly be dry, but will follow NBM
guidance and keep slight chance PoPs in the forecast. Some more
shortwave energy approaches by Monday, but with ridging aloft and
at the surface, will be hard for much in the way of precip to
develop. Will keep slight chance PoPs.

Temperatures will run several degrees above normal during the Long
Term period, with highs around 90 on Friday, and then otherwise in
the mid and upper 80s. Conditions will be fairly humid with dew
points in the mid and upper 60s.

.AVIATION /19Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of Today...Ceilings have largely improved to VFR this
afternoon with some locally MVFR to IFR ceilings in the vicinity
of showers and thunderstorms. Expecting this trend to continue
as showers and storms increase in coverage through 21Z. I have
opted to highlight the convection in the TAFs with prevailing
-SHRA and/or VCTS/VCSH for all terminals with TEMPO groups for
 lower restrictions. Winds will be mostly southerly around 5-10
 kts. Moderate confidence in prevailing conditions.

Tonight...Showers and storms should diminish in coverage and
intensity around 00Z, although a few isolated showers may be
possible through 06Z or so. Some light fog and low ceilings are
anticipated to develop after 06Z resulting in MVFR restrictions,
but some IFR is possible. Initially southerly winds 5 kts or
less will become light and variable to locally calm. Moderate
confidence on prevailing conditions.

Tuesday...Initially MVFR ceilings are anticipated to lift and
scatter out to VFR by 18Z. Some isolated showers or storms may
impact the terminals after 18Z, mainly north of PHL. Winds will
settle out of the west and increase to near 10 kts after 18Z.
Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Tuesday Night...Mainly VFR. Patchy fog may develop around KACY,
KMIV, KRDG, and KABE terminals. Westerly winds around 5 kts or less.
High confidence.

Wednesday through Wednesday Night...VFR. Westerly winds around 5-10
kts. High confidence.

Thursday through Thursday Night...VFR. West to southwest winds
around 5-10 kts. High confidence.

Friday through Sunday...Mostly VFR. Best chances for SHRA and
possibly a TSRA are Friday afternoon and evening. Winds S-SW 5 to 10
kt Friday, becoming LGT/VRB Friday night, and then an E wind 5 to 10
kt sets up for Saturday and Sunday. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Conditions are expected to remain below advisory levels through
Tuesday. Southerly winds 10-15 kts this afternoon will diminish
and shift southwesterly tonight before shifting southerly and
increasing to 10-15 kts again for Tuesday. A few gusts near 20
kts are possible, especially off the New Jersey coast. Seas 2-4
feet. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are
possible.

Outlook...

Tuesday Night...sub-Advisory conditions expected. Southwest winds a
round 10-15 kt, gusting up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 feet.

Wednesday through Wednesday Night...sub-Advisory conditions
expected. West/Northwest winds in the morning will shift to a more
southerly direction in the afternoon. Winds around 10-15 kt,
gusting up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 feet.

Thursday through Thursday Night...Sub-advisory conditions
expected. Southerly winds around 10-15 kt, gusting up to 20 kt.
Seas 2 to 3 feet.

Friday through Sunday...Winds and seas will be below SCA thresholds.
Best chance for showers and thunderstorms will be Friday afternoon
and evening.

Rip Currents...

Today, a southerly wind from 10 to 15 kts and wave heights of 2-3
feet with southerly swell of 3-4 feet on a period of 5 seconds
should result in a LOW risk for the formation of dangerous rip
currents.

For Tuesday, a southwesterly wind around 10 kts and wave heights of
2-3 feet with southerly swell of 2 feet on a period of 5 seconds
should result in a LOW risk for the formation of dangerous rip
currents.

through 730 PM EDT...

At 625 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Hampton, or 11 miles east of Easton, moving east at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.
