.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build across the region for today and
Saturday before weakening Sunday. A coastal low pressure appears
likely to affect the region for a few days starting Monday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
No changes needed for the morning update... beatiful weather
continues to push southward across the area for the weekend.

     4AM discussion...
An anomalously deep mid-level trough axis will pass slowly
across the region through tonight. A cold front has pushed south
of the area as of early this morning, which is expected to push
all the way into the Southeast through today. Cooler and much
drier air will advect into the Mid-Atlantic through tonight amid
a northerly pressure gradient flow.

A shortwave trough pivoting around the base of the primary
synoptic wave earlier this morning resulted in some considerable
mid- level cloud cover and cirrus spreading into the region.
There have also been some isolated showers near the coast with
this as well. This activity is moving offshore, however some
sprinkles or an isolated shower is possible through mid-
morning, mainly near the coast. The shortwave and any lingering
precipitation will continue to push offshore this morning.
Northerly winds will prevail around 10-15 mph today along with
sunny skies once the morning clouds clear offshore. An isolated
shower may develop near the sea breeze across southern New
Jersey or coastal Delaware, otherwise the forecast is dry.

The anomalously dry airmass and essentially full August sun
will result in deep and very efficient boundary layer mixing
into this afternoon. Mixing heights are progged to reach up to
around the 800 mb level. Dewpoints are forecast to mix out well
into the 40s (perhaps even into the upper 30s) near and
northwest of I-95 with values in the low to mid 50s closer to
the coast. High temperatures will peak into the low to mid 80s
this afternoon. These conditions should make for what will
arguably be one of the most pleasant days of the summer so far!
While a modest northerly gradient flow will persist across the
region today, a sea breeze is anticipated to develop near the
coast and should make some inland progress into the coastal
plain by late this afternoon. The boundary will likely shift
back toward the coast as a land breeze by late this evening and
persist through the overnight.

The northerly pressure gradient will prevail through tonight as
well, and northerly winds will remain around 5-10 mph
overnight. This should keep radiational cooling at bay and keep
temperatures from falling too much tonight despite the very dry
air in place. Temperatures are forecast to fall into the mid 50s
to around 60 degrees across much of the area, with values
closer to the mid 60s for the Philly urban area and near the
coasts.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
An upper level trough axis will be centered just east of NJ
Saturday morning, with a closed low heading northeast towards
MA. Surface high pressure will center across southern Ontario/
Quebec and northwestern NY and PA Saturday with clear skies
expected through the day. 850 MB temperatures are forecast to be
around 11 degrees C with 1000/ 850 MB thicknesses at 1385 m.
This will support high temperatures in the low to mid 80s for
most of the region (low 70s towards the Poconos). The other main
story Saturday will be the continued lower humidity, with
dewpoints once again mixing out into the 40s for most of the
region in the afternoon. Skies will be clear with no
precipitation expected.

Late Saturday afternoon, a sea breeze will move inland and
likely stall near the PA/ NJ border before washing out. By
Saturday night, the mid-level low will exit the region with
another shortwave diving southeast out of the Ohio River Valley.
The wave will then head east as it rounds the base of the
longwave trough axis. PWATs are forecast to remain around 0.8"
Sunday (or near the 10th percentile for this time of year). This
means that no precipitation is expected with the shortwave, but
clouds will increase on Sunday which will help keep
temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. No
precipitation is expected Sunday.

Getting into Monday, the trough axis will be just to our west,
with shortwave energy rotating around the base of the trough,
lifting northeast. At the surface, an area of low pressure will
slide either through the southern portion of our CWA or just
south of it. As the area of low pressure approaches, low-level
flow will shift, coming out of the east. Coastal flooding will
be a concern as the onshore flow could persist for a few days.
While it will take a bit for the lower parts of the atmosphere
to saturate, Monday looks to be rather wet. Instability will be
limited and PWATs won't be overly impressive either, so severe
and hydro threats don't appear to be large. Looks like a day
that will bring some much needed rain, with a majority of the
area in the Likely PoPs category for Monday afternoon.
Temperatures will struggle to get out of the 70s on Monday.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms could continue into the
night.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A closed 500 mb low looks to form by early Tuesday over the
region. Another shortwave will come out of the Carolinas,
rotating around the closed low, and lift along the NJ/DE coast.
The surface low will follow a similar track. Highest PoPs remain
for coastal locations, the Philadelphia metro area, and
Delmarva. Precip chances look a bit less in the Lehigh Valley,
Poconos, and NW Jersey for Tuesday. Max temperatures will be in
the 70s.

Latest guidance continues to suggest that the blocking pattern
will result in a slow moving and meandering 500 mb low. This
will slow the progression of the surface low moving up the
coast. There will be scattered diurnally driven showers and
thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday, but confidence is low
on where specifically showers/storms will develop. It looks
like the flow will shift offshore by Thursday night as the
surface low moves north of the area. The 500 mb low will slowly
begin to lift out by then as well, with high pressure sliding
back in towards the end of next week. Temperatures will begin to
gradually increase by Thursday, eventually getting back to near
normal on Friday.

Monday through Monday night...sub-VFR conditions possible with
showers and thunderstorms moving through. East to northeast
winds around 5-10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday through Tuesday night...sub-VFR conditions possible
with showers and thunderstorms moving through. Northeast winds
around 10- 15 kt. Moderate confidence.

Wednesday through Wednesday night...slight chance of showers
and thunderstorms, otherwise VFR. North to northeast winds
around 10-15 kt. Low confidence.

No marine headlines are anticipated through tonight. Northerly
winds will prevail around 15-20 kts into this afternoon before
shifting easterly and diminishing to around 10 kts this evening.
The winds will shift to the north again and increase to around
15-20 kts tonight. Seas generally around 2-3 feet with a
northerly swell.

morning, becoming southeasterly in the afternoon, 5-10 kt with

Sunday Night...sub-Advisory conditions expected. South to
Southeast winds around 10 kt, gusting up to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3
feet.

Monday through Monday Night...sub-Advisory conditions expected.
Easterly winds around 10-15 kt, gusting up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to
3 feet. Showers and isolated thunderstorms likely.

Tuesday through Tuesday Night...Advisory conditions possible,
especially north of Atlantic City. East to northeast winds
around 15- 20 kt, gusting up to 25 kt. Seas building to advisory
criteria, especially north of Atlantic City, around 4 to 6

Wednesday through Wednesday Night...Advisory conditions
possible. North to northeast winds around 15-20 kt, gusting up
to 25 kt. Seas 4 to 6 feet. Showers and thunderstorms possible.

Rip Currents...

A north/northeasterly wind around 10-15 MPH, with a medium
period northerly swell and breaking waves around 1-2/2-3 feet
feet will result in a LOW risk of rip currents along the New
Jersey and Delaware beaches for Friday.

On Saturday, a northerly wind will shift onshore by midday.
Winds will be around 5-10 MPH, with a medium period northerly
swell, and breaking waves around 1-2 feet. This will result in a
LOW risk of rip currents along the New Jersey and Delaware
beaches.

.FIRE WEATHER...
A very dry air mass will be in place today, especially inland
across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Northerly winds will prevail
around 10- 15 mph. The relative humidity values are forecast to
drop into the 25-30% range (away from the coast). These
anomalously dry conditions combined with the dry soils and
developing drought conditions could result in some fire weather
concerns through today.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Tonight's high tide will be similarly as high as Thursday
evening's even without any contribution from the wind.

Minor tidal flooding is likely to occur, with a Coastal Flood
Advisory in effect from 8PM-2AM EDT for portions of the Atlantic
Coast and Delaware Bay.

Potential for a long duration onshore flow with developing low
pressure early next week may result in additional coastal
flooding of at least minor intensity.

through 300 PM EDT...

At 233 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Dennisville, or 12 miles west of Ocean City, moving east at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.

Locations impacted include...
Ocean City, Somers Point, Woodbine, Sea Isle City, Avalon, Corbin
City, Belleplain Forest, Beesleys Point, Seaville, Marmora,
Dennisville, Goshen, Strathmere, Eldora and Cape May Court House.
