.SYNOPSIS...
A weak frontal boundary will cross the area through tonight
then stall just offshore and south of the area bringing an end
to the scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening.
Another cold front will bring an additional round of showers and
thunderstorms to the area Friday afternoon and evening before
pushing south of the area Friday night. High pressure is then
expected to prevail across the region over the weekend bringing
a period of seasonable and much drier conditions. Another cold
front will cross the area Tuesday bringing increasing chances
for showers and storms early next week with high pressure and
drier conditions returning for the middle of the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Most of New Jersey, southeast Pennsylvania, and Delmarva finds
itself in between a departing warm front currently lifting through
Long Island and New England and a weak cold front/trough approaching
from the west. At 6 pm, very warm and humid conditions are in
place, with temperatures in the upper 80s to around 90. Surface
dew points are generally in the low 70s, but will mix down into
the mid and upper 60s into this evening. Convection has
developed ahead of and along the approaching trough. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms remain possible through this evening.
BUFKIT profiles are showing a decent amount of mid-level dry
air, so not expecting widespread thunderstorm development, but
there could be locally heavy rain and gusty winds. Still cannot
rule out an isolated severe storm.

Warm and humid for the rest of the night. Not expecting much in the
way of fog, but if some locally heavier storms develop, then fog may
develop in those areas. Lows tonight in the 60s and low 70s, except
for the Philadelphia metro area, where lows will be in the mid 70s.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT/...
A cold front approaches from the west on Friday. Temperatures will
once again be quite warm with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, but
with a west to northwest flow, dew points should mix out a bit
better on Friday compared to Thursday. Although dew points start out
in the upper 60s to low 70s, by peak heating of the day, dew points
should mix down to the mid 60s or so. This should keep max heat
index values generally in the low 90s.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of that
approaching cold front, but activity seems to be focused on the
southern half of the forecast area, generally southeast New Jersey
and Delmarva. 12Z/28 NAM is quite slow, holding the bulk of the
activity off until the evening, whereas the rest of the CAMs
guidance has late afternoon/early evening activity. The NAM is also
the most aggressive. Generally think timing will be in the 21Z-03Z
time frame. Locally heavy rain and locally damaging winds are
possible. The Storm Prediction Center has a Slight Risk for severe
weather across Delmarva, and a Marginal Risk into the Delaware
Valley and southeast New Jersey, generally south of Philadelphia.

Conditions dry out after midnight Friday night behind the departing
cold front.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Dry and seasonable conditions are expected Saturday and Sunday
with the front remaining stalled over the southern Mid-Atlantic.
Expect highs in the mid to upper 80s with lows from the mid 60s
to around 70 degrees. Dewpoints are expected to mix out quite a
bit during the daytime, even into the mid to upper 50s, which is
about as good as it gets this time of year.

A 500 mb trough over the Northeast will gradually deamplify as more
zonal mid-level flow sets up over the region through the middle of
the week. A deamplifying shortwave will move across the Great Lakes
and into our region Tuesday bringing increasing chances for
showers and thunderstorms Monday and especially into Tuesday
and Tuesday night. High pressure will return at least briefly
into the middle of the week. Ensemble guidance continues to
hint that the dominant mid to upper-level ridge over the
southern United States will shift east towards our region,
bringing stronger subsidence and increasing heat with 500 mb
heights climbing above 590 dam. Heat headlines will thus become
increasingly more probable toward the end of the week.

.AVIATION /22Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...Overall, a VFR forecast. Widely scattered showers and
thunderstorms will pass through the region, but low confidence on a
given storm passing over a given terminal. Will carry VCTS for all
but KMIV and KACY, generally from around 21Z through 02Z. Local sub-
VFR conditions possible. Not expecting much fog, but if heavy rain
falls over a terminal this evening, then local fog may develop in
the pre-dawn hours. W winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming LGT/VRB late
tonight. Moderate confidence.

Friday...VFR. Showers and thunderstorms possible in the late
afternoon with sub-VFR conditions. W winds 5 to 10 kt. Moderate
confidence.

Friday night...Lingering showers and thunderstorms in the evening,
tapering off by midnight. VFR thereafter. LGT/VRB winds, becoming NW
5 to 10 kt late. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Saturday...VFR. Winds from the northwest 5 to 10 knots. High
confidence.

Sunday...VFR. Light and variable winds turning southwesterly 5 to 10
knots in the afternoon. High confidence.

Monday...VFR with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing.
Southerly winds from 5 to 10 knots. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday...Prevailing VFR, but scattered showers and
thunderstorms may bring briefly lower restrictions into the
afternoon. Westerly winds 5-10 kts. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Sub-Small Craft Advisory conditions tonight through Friday night.
Thunderstorms are possible this evening, then again Friday afternoon
and evening. Gusty winds and elevated seas are possible in the
vicinity of any thunderstorms.

Outlook...

Winds and seas are expected to remain below Small Craft Advisory
conditions through Tuesday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms
may lead to locally stronger wind gusts and wave heights. South
to southwest winds generally around 5-15 kts. Seas 1-3 feet.

RIP CURRENTS...

A general southerly wind 10 to 15 mph and breaking waves around
1 foot should keep the risk for rip currents LOW through
Friday.
