.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front approaching slowly from the northwest is forecast
to pass through our region overnight into Sunday morning. The
boundary is expected to stall to our south on Sunday and Monday
as high pressure builds from the Great Lakes to the waters off
the Middle Atlantic coast. The front is anticipated to return to
the north on Tuesday. Low pressure is forecast to progress
southeastward from the Great Lakes at that time. It should pass
through or near our region on Tuesday night, pushing the front
back to our south. High pressure is expected to nose down from
the northwest on Wednesday. However, the frontal boundary may
return to our vicinity late in the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for southeastern
Pennsylvania, parts of eastern Maryland, northern and central
Delaware, and parts of southern and central New Jersey. It is in
effect until 9:00 PM this evening.

A cold front extended from northern New England, across New
York State to the Ohio River Valley this afternoon. There was a
prefrontal trough that was drifting southward through
southeastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. The trough
was providing an initial focus for the development of showers
and thunderstorms this afternoon.

Mixed layer CAPE values are forecast to be in the 1000 to 2000
J/kg range this afternoon. The thunderstorms are expected to
become strong to severe during the mid to late afternoon due to
the increased instability along with a somewhat favorable wind
profile. Also, precipitable water values are anticipated to be
in the 2 inch neighborhood along and to the south of the surface
trough. As a result, locally heavy rain is likely.

The trough is expected to sink slowly southward through eastern
Maryland, Delaware and southern New Jersey during the nighttime
hours, taking much of the shower and thunderstorm activity with
it. The intensity of the thunderstorms should weaken gradually
with the loss of daytime heating.

The cold front is forecast to progress through our region from
late tonight into Sunday morning, with dry air arriving in its
wake. We are expecting some clouds and showers to linger into
Sunday morning, mainly across eastern Maryland, Delaware and
southern New Jersey. Otherwise, Sunday should feature increasing
sunshine along with decreasing humidity. Highs are expected to
favor the 80s with a northwesterly wind around 10 MPH.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The mid level flow is expected to veer toward the northwest for
the period from Sunday night into Tuesday. Initially, it will
bring our region warm dry weather as surface high pressure
slides from the eastern Great Lakes to the waters off the Middle
Atlantic coast on Sunday night and Monday.

The frontal boundary to our south is forecast to lift northward
on Monday night and Tuesday in the return flow on the back side
of the high. Humidity will likely be on the increase. We are
not anticipating any precipitation from Monday night into
Tuesday morning. However, there has been a generally consistent
signal in the models that a convective complex will drop down
from the Great Lakes on Tuesday. The system may impact our
region on Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening.

Temperatures are expected to remain seasonable from Sunday
night into Tuesday.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The expected convective complex is forecast to pass through our
region around Tuesday evening, before moving to our east and
southeast on Tuesday night. It should push the frontal boundary
to our south for Wednesday, allowing high pressure to nose down
from the northwest at that time. However, the front is
anticipated to return northward and into our vicinity for the
late week period. As a result, we will continue to mention a
chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time. It looks as
though the frontal boundary may finally be pushed back to our
south next weekend.

Temperatures are expected to remain seasonable from Tuesday
night through Saturday with highs mostly in the 80s and lows
generally in the 60s and lower 70s.

.AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in areas
to the south and east of KPHL, until midnight. Conditions
generally VFR. However, MVFR ceilings may develop around KMIV
and KACY. Variable wind less than 10 knots.

Sunday...Lingering MVFR ceilings around KMIV and KACY in the
morning, otherwise VFR with decreasing cloud cover.
Northwesterly wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium to high confidence.

Outlook...

Monday...Mainly VFR. Northwest wind 5 to 10 knots becoming
southwest. High confidence.

Tuesday...Mainly VFR. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in
the afternoon and evening. Southwest wind 10 to 15 knots. Medium
confidence.

Wednesday...Mainly VFR. A chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Northwest wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium confidence.

Thursday...Mainly VFR. A chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Southeast to south wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium confidence.

.MARINE...
A cold front is forecast to drop southward across the coastal
waters of New Jersey and Delaware from late tonight into Sunday
morning. A South to southwest wind 15 to 20 knots is expected
into this evening. There may be gusts around 25 knots on our
ocean waters along with wave heights near 5 feet. As a result, a
Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for our ocean waters
until 10:00 PM this evening.

The wind is expected to become west to northwest at 5 to 10
knots for late tonight into Sunday morning. Waves on our ocean
waters should subside to 2 to 3 feet. The wind is then
anticipated to become south to southeast at 5 to 10 knots on
Sunday afternoon.

Outlook...

Sunday night through Thursday...No marine headlines are
anticipated.

Rip Currents...

Southwest winds were on the increase again this afternoon, with
4 to 5 foot seas offshore. We will maintain a moderate risk for
the formation of dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey
beaches, and a low risk for Delaware. Low tide, around which
time rip currents tend to maximize, occurs during the late
afternoon hours on the oceanfront today.

By Sunday, lighter winds and seas should reduce the rip current
risk to low for all of the local beaches.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
