At 517 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Pecks Pond, or 16 miles northeast of Mount Pocono, moving southeast
at 35 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

.SYNOPSIS...
A stationary front stretching from upper Michigan to western
Pennsylvania will lift northeastward across our region as a warm
front early Friday. A cold front will then move through the
area late on Friday. Behind the front, high pressure will build
into the region for the weekend and into Monday. The high will
move offshore Tuesday into Wednesday, followed by a warm front
arriving in the mid- week time frame.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Analysis depicts the stationary front remaining in place from
western New York across western/central PA southward into
Virginia, and it is not expected to move much through the next
24 hours. However, shortwave moving across the region aloft
combined with excessive CAPE (evening soundings in excess of
4000 J/kg to the west and northwest) advecting into the area
aloft is fueling development of thunderstorms presently. Expect
these to move southeast across the region as we head into the
morning hours. PW's are rather high but storms are moving;
however, any training could result in spotty flooding. Severe
weather looks unlikely given the elevated nature of the storms,
but can't completely rule out something, particularly hail.
Shortwave should clear the area by late morning, allowing
drying to commence. However, with the front remaining stalled to
the west, expect clouds to be much tougher to break, so looking
at a much cloudier day than yesterday. This should keep temps
down as well, with highs closer to 80 vs the mid 80s of
yesterday.
Tonight, another shortwave will push southeast across the area.
However, like tonight, expect the front to stay in place thru
the night, so while spotty flooding or an isolated severe storm
is possible, the odds likely remain relatively low. This
shortwave moves through a little earlier than this morning's,
resulting in an opportunity for the clouds to break a little
late at night, resulting in an opportunity for fog. Lows will
remain in the 60s to near 70.
Friday, warm front finally races northeast just ahead of the
approaching cold front. Winds shift southwest to west and become
gusty with gusts up to 30 mph expected. Temps will soar into
the 90s for most. However, cold front then quickly crosses the
region in the afternoon, with dew points likely dropping before
we quite reach head advisory thresholds, though heat indices
near 95 certainly look reasonable. As the front crosses the area
in the afternoon, expect some isolated showers and storms to
fire near I-95 and congeal further as the pass off the coast,
but right now, it looks slow and late enough to limit the severe
weather threat to marginal.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
An upper level low will be located across Quebec Friday night
with a surface cold front pushing southeast across the coastal
waters. The cooler temperatures and drier air will be slightly
delayed, with dewpoints falling into the 50s Saturday morning.
The 850 MB front crosses the zones later in the morning, but
temperatures fall from around 14 degrees C Friday to around 3
degrees C Saturday afternoon (3 - 4 SD anomalies below normal
for this time of year). This will easily support highs mostly in
the 70s across the region (low 70s towards the Lehigh Valley,
mid 70s across the Urban Corridor, and upper 70s over southern
DE). Dewpoints will also likely mix out into the lower 40s
allowing for very pleasant conditions. Some daytime cumulus is
possible Saturday, but no rain is forecast. The main sensible
weather impact on Saturday, will be the breezy conditions.
Forecast soundings indicate wind gusts in the 25 to 30 MPH
range, mostly in the late morning into afternoon hours, during
peak mixing. Overall this makes sense given the tight PGF across
the region and seasonably strong CAA.
Saturday night, a secondary wave will dive southeast on the
backside of the departing closed low helping to slow the overall
group velocity of the longwave trough axis. This will make
Sunday another pleasant day as surface high pressure slowly
builds in from the west. Some moderation in temperatures is
forecast though as the core of the cold 850 MB temperatures
drifts east. 850 MB temperatures will remain around 7 degrees C
though with 1000/850 MB thicknesses rising slightly to around
1365 m. Expect high temperatures mostly in the mid to upper 70s
with dewpoints again mixing out Sunday afternoon (down into the
upper 30s). No precipitation is expected. Sunday night, skies
will remain clear with a light northwest wind. Expect low
temperatures mostly in the low 50s.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The upper level low that dominated the weather Saturday and
Sunday will continue to head east Monday with the mid-level
ridge centering across the ArkLaTex region. Most of Monday looks
dry as PWATs remain below 0.5" and upper level ageostrophic
convergence remains close to the region. Expect high
temperatures near 80 degrees.
Beyond Monday, guidance begins to rapidly diverge as the
strength of the mid-level ridge and resultant shortwaves riding
up and over the ridge differs. The latest run of the NBM has an
IQR of over 10 degrees for Wednesday high temperatures which
makes sense given the latest 500 MB EOF patterns. A monopole
exists on EOF1, or showing model spread in the strength/
amplitude of the exiting long wave trough. Overall, models are
fairly dispersive though so have kept with the NBM for now.
This would indicate a return of precipitation to the region on
Tuesday with another chance of precipitation on Wednesday.

.AVIATION /07Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...Restrictions likely due to scattered showers and
thunderstorms until about 15Z...otherwise mainly VFR. The showers
and thunderstorms could briefly reduce the ceiling and visibility
into the MVFR/IFR range. Southeast wind 8 knots or less, becoming
south to southwest around 10 knots. Medium confidence.
Tonight...VFR except for a period of MVFR/IFR as scattered
showers and thunderstorms move through the area. Attm, a better
chance for restrictions are across KRDG and KABE. SW winds 5 to
10 kts with gusts to 15 kts. Stronger gusts possible near or in
thunderstorms. Fog/low clouds may result in restrictions late
at night as well. Moderate confidence.
Outlook...
Friday...Sub-VFR restrictions possible early with patchy
fog/low cigs. Additional sub-VFR conditions possible in the
afternoon in more showers and thunderstorms. VFR Friday night. W
winds 10 to 15 kts. Gusts to 25 kts in the afternoon. Moderate
confidence.
Friday night...VFR. West winds veering from the northwest
around 10 kts. High confidence.
Saturday...VFR with winds out of the northwest around 15 kts.
Gusts 25 to 30 kts in the afternoon. Model guidance is showing a
fairly healthy cumulus deck Saturday afternoon, but ceilings
are forecast to remain VFR. Moderate confidence. Winds will
slowly decrease in speed with gusts fading as the PBL decouples
Saturday night.
Sunday...VFR. Northwest winds 10 to 15 kts with gusts of 20 to
25 kts. Little in the way of clouds forecast. Diminishing winds
Sunday night. High confidence.
Monday...VFR. West winds 5 to 10 kts. High confidence.

.MARINE...
Today...Low-end SCA conditions developing later in the afternoon
on the ocean. Southerly wind gusts increasing into the 20 to 25 kt
range. Seas 3 to 5 feet.
Tonight...Low-end SCA conditions will continue much of the night
before diminishing toward morning with the southerly gusts up to 25
kts and seas remaining 3 to 5 feet.
Friday...Waves diminish to 2 to 4 feet as winds shift southwesterly,
but with gusts likely topping out around 20 knots.
Outlook...
Saturday...Winds and seas will remain elevated behind the cold
front from Friday with winds out of the northwest 15 to 20 kts
with gusts of 25 to 30 kts. Seas will be 3 to 5 feet. An SCA
will likely be required.
Sunday and Sunday night..Northwest winds 10 to 15 kts with gusts
up to 20 kts. NW winds 15 to 20 kts. Seas 2 to 4 feet.
Monday...Surface high pressure moves overhead with winds
slackening. Seas around 2 ft.
Rip currents...
A southeast to south wind 5 to 10 MPH on Thursday morning is
expected to increase to 10 to 15 MPH in the afternoon. Breaking
waves are forecast to be around 2 feet with a medium period east
to southeast swell. There is a MODERATE risk for the
development of dangerous rip currents along the New Jersey shore
on Thursday. There is a LOW risk at the Delaware beaches where
the wind should be a bit more parallel to the coast than in New
Jersey.
A southwest to south wind 10 to 15 MPH is forecast for Friday.
Breaking waves should be 2 to 3 feet with a medium period east
to south swell. There is a LOW risk for rip currents along the
coasts of Delaware and New Jersey on Friday.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Coastal Flood advisories have been allowed to expire this
morning as most tidal sites reached minor advisory level
flooding. Overall, the minor flooding which was observed
Thursday morning is not expected to be repeated as winds are
forecast to become southerly this afternoon. However, some
spotty minor flooding remains possible at that time.
It continues to appear as though the upper eastern shore of
Chesapeake Bay will not experience any minor flooding issues.
