.SYNOPSIS...
A weak disturbance will pass over the region today. A warm
front will move through tonight into Sunday. High pressure is
likely to be in place on Monday. Multiple weak frontal
boundaries may move near the region through the remainder of
next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Light showers continue to move in from the west. Over eastern
New Jersey, however, a sea breeze has developed. With that mid-
level trough approaching from the west, some stronger showers
and even isolated thunderstorms have developed near the coast.
Still not looking severe, but some brief downpours are possible
for the next several hours.

Otherwise, not at all an atypical pattern for late spring/early
summer as we start this weekend with an expansive mid-level
ridge over the southern High Plains and Desert Southwest and a
closed 500 mb low over central Ontario. With a shortwave trough
extending southward over the Great Lakes that will impact our
region as a convoluted series of perturbations through the
weekend as the ridge to our southwest attempts to migrate
eastward over the Lonestar State.

The first and perhaps weakest of these perturbations will pass
through today, still providing for sufficient lifting for
showers and thunderstorms. At the surface, a stationary front
remains well to our south, with the stronger 850 mb front also
to the south. This keeps the real moisture confined over the
Southeast, which we won't start seeing until Sunday when this
front lifts north across the area. We start out the day on the
cloudy side with a generous cirrus shield that has lingered
through the overnight. This will inhibit stronger surface
heating through the day and keep convection a little more at bay
per se. The orientation of this perturbation is also more
neutral to slightly positive, limiting mid-level ascent that
might otherwise be realized in a more negative tilt. This we
look to see tomorrow with the second and more feisty wave.

A difficult forecast in terms of timing out showers and
thunderstorms, with fairly equal chances for localized heavy
downpours with showers and thunderstorms. Best chances look to
be mostly south of the urban corridor closer to the stronger
forcing and moisture. Rainfall will likely be spotty, with
generally a tenth to a quarter of an inch, locally higher in a
few places as is usually the case this time of year. Soundings
show a fairly moist column, so we aren't expecting too much in
the way of DCAPE and strong outflows. Highs today will be just a
few degrees below normals in the low to mid 70s west of I-95
and in the upper 70s east of there.

The first half of the tonight should remain fairly quiet as the
first shortwave perturbation moves offshore and the next moves
closer to the region across the Great Lakes. It looks to be
mostly after the midnight to 2 am timeframe when the next wave
of showers with embedded thunder arrives. Greater chances for
heavy rain should hold off until after the warm front lifts
north of the area into the daytime Sunday. Lows tonight will
range from the mid 50s over the Poconos to the low 60s from the
urban corridor south and east.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Sunday continues to look like an unsettled day, but one which is
highly uncertain regarding details of potential severe weather. A
warm front is expected to move through the region early in the day.
This will likely come with a round of widespread shower and
thunderstorm activity, though the severe weather risk with that
would be fairly low. Depending on heating and instability behind the
warm front, additional convection may be possible later in the day.
Given an impressive kinematic environment by later in the day, this
potential second round of storms would have the potential to be
severe.

There is a wide range of outcomes on the latest guidance, with the
11.0z CAMs just coming into range of the entire event. Overall, the
model trend seems to be for a slower advance of the warm front. The
front appears to arrive later and also advance north more slowly,
possibly even failing to make it through the entire region. Because
the presence of the warm front will encourage widespread clouds and
showers, this would tend to limit severe weather potential. At this
point, the most likely scenario appears to be rather widespread
shower and embedded thunderstorm activity for much of the day. This
would effectively amount to an all day washout, and may involve some
hydro concerns, but would largely nix the severe weather potential.
Temperatures would also struggle to get out of the 70s in this
scenario. However, if the warm front ends up more progressive and we
do get some better heating and instability during the midday and
early afternoon hours, there is still a chance for severe storms
later in the day. So it is a highly conditional threat. The SPC
SWODY2 maintains a Marginal Risk of severe weather for nearly all of
the CWA, and given the uncertainty, that outlook seems very
reasonable.

A threat for showers and storms may continue at least into the early
overnight hours, though with time the trend should be for less
coverage of rainfall. With the region remaining in the warm sector,
it will be a fairly warm and muggy night with lows ranging through
the 60s.

Monday is currently looking like a nice, albeit rather warm, day.
Behind whatever becomes of Sunday's event, there is fairly good
agreement in guidance for at least a brief window of high pressure
in between disturbances. Surface winds should shift to west-
northwest early Monday, which will gradually advect drier air into
the region as the day progresses. While it will likely start out
quite humid, this should ease at least somewhat by afternoon. Still
a summerlike day though with highs generally well into the 80s. Dry
weather should continue into the overnight as well, which is looking
seasonable with lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Overview...

On the large scale, strong central US ridging looks to be the most
prominent feature heading through next week. This expansive "heat
dome" will provide some very hot weather to much of the middle
portion country, but we will generally be immune in the local area
as we remain on the eastern periphery of the ridge. This is a
classic mid-level northwest flow pattern. Notably, these patterns
tend to have very low predictability more than a couple days in
advance. Some of our most impactful severe weather events occur in
these types of regimes, but they can also be totally docile. It all
depends on the timing and placement of low amplitude shortwave
features tracking along the periphery of the ridge to the west. True
to form, the details in the current long range are quite uncertain.
Most days have slgt chc to chc PoPs across most of the region, but
this is primarily due to timing and placement uncertainties and by
no means an indication that we're expecting frequent rainfall all
week.

Dailies...

Tuesday-Tuesday night... Most of the latest guidance is now showing
an MCS type feature tracking out of the Great Lakes and towards the
mid-Atlantic on Tuesday. This feature wasn't on most of the guidance
before, and is the sort of thing we have to watch for in these
patterns. As it is, most indications are that any convective complex
on Tuesday would pass mainly to our south, but it's worth watching.
Kept PoPs mainly in the slgt chc range, and odds still favor most if
not all of the region staying dry. Temperatures look a little cooler
than Monday, mostly low 80s, and assuming we remain in light
northwest flow in the low levels, dew points should continue to fall
as well.

Wednesday-Wednesday night... At this point, Wednesday is also
looking like a mostly dry day as high pressure builds in near and
offshore of New England. Still can't rule out a shower or storm
especially north and west, but the high pressure placement and
apparent gap in shortwave disturbances argues for mainly dry
conditions. A better chance for shower activity may return by
overnight as the next system approaches from the northwest.
Temperatures looks a little above average as the ridge axis nudges
east somewhat, leading to some height rises locally, but this will
only boost highs into the mid to locally upper 80s.

Thursday-Friday... By late week, the ridge to our west appears
likely to undergo a reorganization, with somewhat of an anticyclonic
wave break over our region as the original ridge axis folds over.
This would likely be accompanied by one or two additional frontal
systems moving through our region. While details are uncertain, it
seems likely that shower and storm chances will increase towards the
late week period, and as a result have mainly covered the period
with chc PoPs. It is possible we could see some additional warming
late in the week as the wave break process leads to a temporary rise
in heights over our area, possibly giving us a chance to approach
the 90 degree mark by Friday. But it's likely any heat would be
short lived as the ridge axis re-orients further west.

.AVIATION /18Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...Generally VFR with scattered showers and thunderstorms,
especially south and east of PHL, though less confidence on
thunder. Brief restrictions possible in the stronger showers and
thunderstorms. Light and variable winds this morning will
gradually turn west-southwesterly from 5 to 10 knots this
afternoon, though somewhat variable at times with any showers
and thunderstorms. Moderate confidence.

Tonight...Generally VFR with the continued chance of localized
brief restrictions in showers and thunderstorms. Winds turning
to the south-southeast from 5 to 10 knots. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday-Sunday night... Sub-VFR likely at least during the morning
hours Sunday. Improvement to prevailing VFR is possible later in the
day, but showers and tstms may continue to provide restrictions.
Southerly wind 5 to 10 kt becoming mostly light and variable at
night. Moderate confidence.

Monday-Monday night... Mainly VFR. West-northwest wind 5 to 10 kt,
becoming near calm overnight. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday-Tuesday night... Mainly VFR, with a chance for localized
restrictions in passing showers or tstms. Winds mostly light and
variable. Moderate confidence.

Wednesday-Wednesday night... Mainly VFR. Light winds becoming
southeast at 5 to 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

&&

.MARINE...
Conditions are expected to generally remain below Small Craft
Advisory thresholds through tonight, with winds increasing from the
southwest from 10 to 15 knots, with a few gusts to 20 knots. A few
stronger gusts may occur with showers and thunderstorms through
tonight, though these will be brief if and where they do occur. Seas
generally from 1 to 3 feet.

Outlook...

Sunday through Wednesday night... Winds and seas are expected to
remain below SCA criteria. Several wind shifts expected through the
period. Southerly winds on Sunday may gust near to a little
above 20 kt, otherwise gusts 20 kt or less. Seas mainly 2 to 4 ft.

Rip currents...

Today, winds will become southerly, but remain light with a
medium-period easterly swell. This should result in a LOW risk
for the development of dangerous rip currents along the New
Jersey and Delaware beaches.

By Sunday, winds strengthen noticeably out of the southeast to
south. This looks to result in a MODERATE risk along the southern
New Jersey beaches, with a LOW risk continuing further north in New
Jersey and along the Delaware beaches.
