.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build into the region tonight. Another area of
low pressure looks to affect the region Tuesday, with a second
approaching at the end of next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
A cold front and associated snow squall was moving through
northwestern parts of the PHI CWA just before 2pm. It looks like the
front/squall will pass through the Lehigh Valley 1900-1930Z,
Delaware Valley around 20Z, and NJ Shore 21Z. Areas across Delmarva
and extreme southern New Jersey will be too far south to have much
impact other than a wind shift.
Southwesterly flow ahead of the cold front will shift to the
northwest after the frontal passage. Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be
possible across the entire forecast area, likely highest associated
with and behind any showers and snow squalls.
Things quiet down tonight as the shortwave and clipper shift off to
the east. Winds will slowly subside through the overnight, tapering
off to more of a breeze from the northwest from 15 to 20 mph in the
late night. This will keep temperatures a little more in check even
though the airmass is quite cold moving into the region behind the
front. Lows still look to drop into the teens across most of the
region, with single digits across the Poconos. Wind chills will be
quite cold, especially considering the warm up we just experienced.
Conditions should stay above Wind Chill Criteria across the Poconos,
but we will need to watch for this to change if winds remain
stronger for longer or if temperatures do drop off a little more
quickly.
Surface high pressure will be centered over the NC/ VA border Sunday
morning as the potent shortwave from today exits the region. The
surface high will slowly exit the coast Sunday afternoon, with clear
skies across the region.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
The warm up will begin on Monday as surface high pressure rapidly
heads out to sea. Temperatures Sunday night will likely fall, before
starting to level out Monday morning as winds slowly turn from the
southwest. As this is occuring, a potent mid-level wave will be
diving south across the west coast of the United States. This will
promote rising heights across the east coast of the United States
with warming thermal profiles. 1000/ 850 MB thicknesses will rise
from 1273 m on Sunday afternoon to 1330 m by Monday afternoon. This
will easily support high temperatures in the mid 50s. The latest
probabilistic guidance also supports this, with a skewed
distribution towards the upper 50s.
Monday night, a warm front will slowly lift through the region with
low temperatures occuring relatively early in the night. As the
front crosses the region, temperatures will slowly warm into the
40s.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Early Tuesday, the potent wave diving south across the west coast of
the United States will be deepening with pieces of PV ejecting
northeast out in front. As these fragments of PV, leftover from a
closed low that was off the coast of CA, eject northeast, surface
cyclogenesis will occur across the southern plains of the United
States. This surface low pressure will then rapidly head northeast
towards the St Lawrence River Valley Tuesday. The track of the low
will place the CWA well into the warm sector with highs approaching
60 degrees. Multiple rounds of PV and impressive isentropic upglide
will make for periods of rain through the day. Just plain rain is
expected as the precipitation type on Tuesday.
By Wednesday, northern stream energy will be heading east across
Quebec and the Canadian Maritimes helping to push a surface cold
front through the region and drier conditions. The lack of a
southern push for the northern wave would favor a slightly slower
frontal passage, or more towards Wednesday evening.
Thursday into Friday the mid-level wave that was over the western
United States will begin to wrap up and head east. As this occurs,
surface low pressure will form across the southern United States and
head northeast. Surface high pressure will be located across
southeastern Canada at this time, setting the stage for a potential
CAD and mixed p-type event. Usually these type of setups will
produce all p-types with an initial burst of snow possible. As of
current, confidence remains low on the exact details, so will keep
it a rain/ snow mix in the forecast for now.

.AVIATION /18Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
This afternoon...Mostly VFR through the period. Snow squall/cold
front timed to move through KRDG and KABE 19Z, KTTN/KPNE/KPHL/KILG
20Z, NJ shore 21Z. Brief CIG and VSBY restrictions down to
1/2SM,1000ft at KRDG/KABE/KTTN, and 1-2SM,2000ft at KPHL/KPNE/KILG.
KMIV and KACY forecast to be too far south to have vsby/cig impacts.
Southwest winds ahead of front 15 to 25 knots shift to northwest
post-frontal passage and increase 20 to 30 knots with gusts to 40
knots through 00Z. High confidence.
Tonight...VFR with northwest winds from 20 to 30 knots with gusts up
to 40 knots through 06Z. Winds will decrease to below 20 knots after
06Z. High confidence.
Sunday...VFR with surface high pressure overhead. Some gusts close
to 20 kts possible late Sunday afternoon as high pressure exits to
the east.
Outlook...
Monday...VFR conditions are expected. Southwesterly winds 5 to 15
kt. High confidence.
Monday night through Tuesday night...Ceilings will likely lower to
MVFR, and possibly IFR in some locations, as rain moves into the
region late Tuesday morning. Some visibility restrictions are
possible as well. Southerly winds 5 to 15 kt. A chance of fog is
also possible. Moderate confidence on the overall pattern.
Wednesday and Wednesday night...A slow clearing of skies as a cold
front moves across the terminals. Southwest winds will then veer
around from the northwest. Wind gusts of 20 to 30 kt possible
Wednesday evening.

.MARINE...
A Gale Warning remains in effect through 1am for the waters,
including the Delaware Bay. Southwesterly winds will turn to the
northwest as a cold front associated with the system moves from west
to east. Winds from 25 to 35 knots with gusts to 45 knots will occur
during this time. Winds will gradually decrease to 20 to 30 knots
tonight, with an SCA being needed after the Gale Warning expires.
Seas 4 to 8 feet this afternoon and into the early overnight,
dropping to 3 to 5 feet after 1 am. Winds and seas should stay below
SCA criteria on Sunday.
Outlook...
Sunday night...wind gusts around 25 kt and seas of 4 to 6 ft will be
possible, especially on the coastal waters.
Monday... Conditions will stay below SCA criteria as high pressure
rapidly pulls east. Southerly winds 10 to 15 kt with seas 2-4 feet.
Tuesday...Winds and seas should stay below SCA criteria. Periods of
rain.
Tuesday night...Southerly winds around 30 kt, and elevated seas are
possible. Periods of rain.
Wednesday... A cold front will cross the waters Wednesday evening
bringing an end to the rain. Seas of 5 to 7 feet will slowly fall
below 5 feet Wednesday night.

Strong west to northwest winds will develop Saturday afternoon as a
potent Alberta Clipper system passes just to our north, with . Winds
will increase to 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Meanwhile,
Min RH values will lower to 25 to 35 percent, with the lowest values
across the coastal plain of southern New Jersey and Delmarva late in
the afternoon. Given the rainfall Thursday and Thursday night, and
that Min RH values will not quite be low enough, a Red Flag Warning
is not needed. Reissued an updated Special Weather Statement for
Delaware and the eastern shores of Maryland after consulting with
state fire weather partners.
