.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will remain northeast of the area through early
Thursday before moving offshore. A weak wave of low pressure
will lift from just south of the region and through the local
area on Thursday bringing increasing chances for showers and
drizzle. A low pressure system will approach the area Thursday
night into Friday bringing a return of warmer and more humid
conditions as well as further increasing chances for showers and
thunderstorms. The system is expected to linger across the
region through at least Saturday before weakening and moving
offshore Sunday into Monday. High pressure will then gradually
return into early next week resulting in much warmer conditions
and lessening chances for showers and storms.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A weak surface low was centered off the North Carolina coast
this evening while high pressure was ridged off New England and
Nova Scotia. A mid-level ridge will build into the region from
the southwest ahead of a closed 500 mb low over the central
CONUS.

As the low finally begins to phase with the incoming mid-level
overnight, we will likely see scattered showers expand northward
across Delmarva, but areas north of Wilmington and Atlantic
City should remain dry. Cloud cover will also be on the
increase.

The surface flow will shift southeasterly on Thursday as the
surface ridging to our north retreats further offshore.
Meanwhile, warm advection will begin ramping up above the
surface. This will allow for a surge of low- level moisture
compared to the previous couple days under the more easterly
flow. As a result, more overcast conditions are expected for
Thursday along with an increasing chance for showers and/or
drizzle, especially during the daytime. The onshore component of
the surface flow and associated overcast conditions should keep
temperatures on the cooler side despite the warm advection.

&&

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
For Thursday night, the remnant wave will be nearly dissipated
and/or exiting the area to the north in the increasingly
southerly surface flow. As such, the chances for showers will
also decrease into the overnight. However, there remains some
uncertainty as to how quickly the showers from the main synoptic
system will approach from the west. The general trend in the
latest guidance is that this will be slower, possibly not
reaching our western areas until later on Friday morning. Given
the slower trend of the system, no more than chance PoPs are
forecast for Thursday night. The southerly flow overnight (warm
advection) and mostly cloudy skies should keep temperatures
quite mild in the low to mid 60s in most locations.

On Friday, the main synoptic system will begin impacting the
local region with deep southerly flow advecting considerable
moisture poleward from the Gulf of Mexico. There does not look
to be a well- defined cold front with this system, but it will
probably have more of a convective cold pool driven surface
boundary slowly approaching the area later in the day.
Convection is expected to be ongoing along this boundary as it
approaches throughout the day. As previously mentioned, the
general trend in the latest guidance has been overall slower
with this progression, and thus a slower onset of the higher
PoPs from west to east has been maintained.

As far as impacts go, we are still anticipating that there will
be at least a marginal severe weather threat with any more
robust thunderstorms that are able to organize. Deep layer
effective shear values will be around 35-40 kts, which will
support at least some organization of convection, especially
into the afternoon and evening when surface based instability
will likely be the highest. Instability will likely not exceed
1000 J/kg or so, but there will be plenty of forcing. So even a
few hundred J/kg of instability will be sufficient in supporting
organized/sustained convection. Wet microbursts with locally
strong to damaging wind gusts will be the most probable severe
weather threat. The deep stacked southerly flow will support
training and back- building of convection as well. With PWats
rising into the 1.4"-1.8" range (potentially record breaking
values for May 27th), heavy rain and thus flash flooding will
likely become an increasingly probable threat with this system
somewhere across the Mid-Atlantic region on Friday. However,
there is still too much uncertainty regarding placement and
timing of this potential threat to get into the details. We are
currently forecasting widespread QPF around a half to one inch
(highest totals near and northwest of I-95), but totals could
locally exceed one to two inches where ever convection trains
over the same area. SPC has a Slight Risk for severe
thunderstorms in our area for Friday and WPC has introduced a
Slight Risk of excessive rainfall for southeastern Pennsylvania
and western New Jersey.

Aside from the showers and thunderstorms on Friday, it will be
a warm and rather muggy day with dewpoints rising into the mid
to upper 60s. Expect high temperatures in the mid 70s to near 80
degrees in most areas along with mostly clouds skies. High
temperatures have been decreased slightly with increasing
confidence in largely overcast skies. Southerly winds will
increase into the afternoon to around 10-20 mph with gusts of
25-30 mph possible.

Uncertainty remains in how quickly the convection will move
offshore and out of the area into the Friday night period, but
the activity should generally wane as the night progresses. The
southerly winds will lessen overnight. Given the continued
stacked southerly flow regime, expect continued mostly cloudy
and muggy conditions with minimum temperatures in the low to mid
60s.

A bit of uncertainty remains for Saturday as well as it is
unclear on how quickly the upper level low moves offshore. As
previously stated, guidance is trending toward more of a slower
progression, which would result in the ULL lingering for
Saturday. This will bring chances for showers and thunderstorms,
especially in the afternoon, for the entire area. Therefore, we
have maintained at least chance PoPs and introduced likely PoPs
for much of the northern areas as confidence has increased in
the slower progression.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The closed low will continue to slowly push east as the weekend
goes on. Sunday will feature lower probabilities for showers,
though it is worth monitoring as we get closer given the
uncertainty present. Seasonably warm temperatures are expected
later in the holiday weekend, with highs anticipated to be in
the upper 70s to low 80s.

For the start of next week, high pressure looks to settle in
over the region as an upper level ridge will begin to build over
the Ohio River Valley. This will result in a general warming
trend for the early part of the week, as the ridge strengthens
over the Eastern US. Shower chances should be minimal as the
ridge should keep the upper level low far enough offshore to not
have any significant impacts.

.AVIATION /01Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Overnight...VFR ceilings. East to southeast wind 4 to 8 knots.
Medium to high confidence.

Thursday...VFR ceilings lowering to MVFR. Scattered showers
after 18Z. Southeast wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium confidence.

Outlook...

Thursday night...MVFR or IFR ceilings probable. Scattered
showers or drizzle may also cause some visibility restrictions.
Southeasterly winds around 10 kts becoming more southerly
overnight. Low confidence.

Friday...MVFR to IFR restrictions probable with showers and
thunderstorms likely. Southerly winds 10-15 kts with gusts
around 20- 25 kts. Winds will diminish and shift more
southwesterly after 00Z. A chance of lingering showers
overnight. Moderate confidence.

Saturday...Sub-VFR restrictions possible along with a chance of
showers and thunderstorms. West to southwesterly winds 5-10
kts. Low confidence.

Sunday...Mainly VFR with a slight chance of showers and
associated brief restrictions. Northwesterly winds 5-10 kts. Low
confidence.

Monday...VFR. Winds mainly light and variable with onshore
winds less than 10 kts for coastal terminals. Moderate
confidence.

Generally sub-advisory conditions across all the waters through
Thursday. Winds from the east-northeast, gusting up to 20 knots
on the southern ocean waters, will become southeast overnight.
Seas will also range from 3 to 5 feet over the southern ocean
waters, but wave heights look to be below 5 feet closer to the
coast so no SCA has been issued.

Outlook...

Rip Currents...

A southeast wind 10 to 15 MPH is forecast for Thursday along
the coasts of New Jersey and Delaware. Breaking waves are
expected to be 2 to 3 feet with a medium period easterly swell.
The persistent onshore wind is anticipated to result in a HIGH
risk for the development of dangerous rip currents at that time.

The wind is expected to veer to the south at 15 to 20 MPH on
Friday. Breaking waves should remain in the 2 to 3 foot range
with a medium period east to southeast swell. With the wind
losing a bit of its onshore component, it appears as though
there will be a MODERATE risk of rip currents on Friday.
