.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure across the mid-Mississippi Valley will build eastward
over our region by tonight. A cold front will cross our region
Sunday evening. In its wake, high pressure will build over our
region into Monday night. A clipper low pressure system and its cold
front is forecast to move across the Northeast and Mid- Atlantic
regions Tuesday into Tuesday night. A weak low may cross the Mid
Atlantic Wednesday into Thursday before high pressure builds in from
the northwest Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
High pressure centered in the middle Mississippi River Valley early
this morning will build toward the Middle Atlantic coast today and
tonight. The air mass will continue to bring dry weather conditions
to our region.

High clouds associated with an upper level jet will remain overhead,
mainly affecting eastern Maryland, Delaware, southern New Jersey and
points southward. Meanwhile, there was an extensive field of
stratocumulus to our west and northwest early this morning, reaching
back to the Great Lakes. The clouds were trapped under a temperature
inversion so they will be slow to dissipate. The leading edge of the
clouds was eroding a bit due to downsloping. However, it appears as
though the clouds may push eastward and over our northern counties
for this afternoon into this evening in advance of an approaching
mid level impulse. As the general low level flow backs from the west
to the southwest tonight, the stratocumulus will likely retreat to
the north at that time.

Condition will remain chilly for today, with high temperatures
expected to be about 6 to 8 degrees below normal in our region. They
should favor the 30s and lower 40s. Tonight's lows are anticipated
to be mostly in the 20s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...

The main weather impacts in the short term will be the much colder
air moving into the region Sunday night into Monday and potential
for snow showers primarily north of I-78 late Sunday.

As mentioned by the previous shift, for much of the day on Sunday
we'll be in between a southern stream low crossing off the Carolina
coast, and a northern stream cold front that will be approaching
from the NW (but is not expected to cross our region until Sunday
evening). Thus, during the day on Sunday should remain relatively
mild and mostly dry. Highs on Sunday should be mostly in the 40s and
low 50s (the exception is the higher terrain of the Southern Poconos
and NW NJ, which may only get into the upper 30s).

The cold front should arrive Sunday evening into overnight. Due to
our location between the two systems, the air will be quite dry, and
significant dry air advection is expected behind the front. That
being said, some lake effect snow showers could progress as far SE
as the I-78 corridor. The potential is limited not only due to the
lack of moisture, but also the main mid level trough axis (and thus
best synoptic scale lift) remaining north of our region. I can't
rule out a snow squall, but several factors (most notably timing
likely after sunset) are not ideal for snow squalls. Any snow
showers in our region should be isolated, with little,
if any, accumulation.

Colder and drier air advects in over the region on Monday, with many
locations only getting near or just above freezing during the day on
Monday. Continued the trend from the previous shift in undercutting
low temperatures Monday night as light winds and mostly clear skies
(at least initially) should help for efficient radiational
cooling.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...

Overview: A broad, long wave mid level trough is expected to develop
over the northeastern U.S. for the later half of the week. This will
mean a rather progressive surface pattern. Two weak low pressure
systems mid week will likely have little in the way of impacts for
our region. Otherwise, a broad area of high pressure will build in
towards the end of the week with tranquil weather.

Details:

Tuesday into Tuesday night...The first of the weak surface lows, a
northern stream, clipper like system, should cross the northeastern
U.S. through this period. Most guidance depicts this system staying
north of our region, but if it trends further south, brief light
precipitation and gusty conditions will be possible.

Wednesday into Wednesday night...The second of the surface lows is
expected to cross the Mid Atlantic Wednesday into Wednesday night.
In this case, the track is far enough south, but moisture will be
limited as this is coming so quickly on the heels of the Tuesday
system, moisture will be very limited.

Thursday and Friday...A surface high should build over the region as
the mid level trough finally shifts eastward over the northern
Atlantic. Mostly tranquil conditions should round out the end of the
work week.

.AVIATION /08Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...VFR. Northwest wind around 10 knots, becoming west. High
confidence.

Tonight...VFR. West wind 8 knots or less. High confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday... VFR conditions expected. West-southwest winds increasing
to 10 to 20 kt with gusts 25 to 30 kt. High confidence.

Sunday night... VFR conditions expected. An isolated snow shower
possible early mainly north of ABE. Winds shifting from southwest to
northwest with speeds 10 to 15 kt, gusts up to 25 kt will be
possible with and just behind the wind shift. High confidence.

Monday-Monday night... VFR conditions expected. Northwest wind 10 to
15 kt becoming light and variable overnight. High confidence.

Tuesday...Mostly VFR conditions expected. Southeast winds 5 knots or
less early, becoming south to southwest around 10 knots during the
day, then becoming west or west-northwest 5 knots or less at night.
Moderate confidence.

Wednesday...VFR conditions expected. West-northwest winds mainly
around 10 knots. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
We will keep the Small Craft Advisory going until 6:00 AM to allow
the northwesterly wind gusts to fall below 25 knots on lower Delaware
Bay and on our ocean waters.

We are expecting a northwest wind 10 to 15 knots for this morning,
with the direction backing to the west for this afternoon and
tonight. Waves should settle into the 2 to 4 foot range on our ocean
waters, and they will likely be 2 feet or less on Delaware Bay.

Outlook...

Sunday-Sunday night... SCA conditions are expected to develop Sunday
afternoon. West-southwest winds increasing to 15 to 20 kt with gusts
to 25 kt. A wind shift to northwest is expected during the evening
with a frontal passage, and gusts of 25 to 30 kt are likely behind
the front. There is a small chance that gale force gusts will occur
just behind the front. For now though, most guidance depicts the
winds remaining below gale force, so have kept the forecast below 34
kt.

Monday-Monday night... Conditions gradually subsiding below SCA
levels Monday as northwest winds weaken. Winds shifting from
northwest to east overnight at around 10 kt.

Tuesday and Wednesday...The conditions are anticipated to be below
SCA criteria.
