.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure remains in overall control of the weather through
early next week. A cold front will cross the area late today
and another weak front early Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Conditions are quiet but cold across the area as most of the
continent remains under the influence of a large long wave
trough centered near the Great Lakes region. Meanwhile a strong
surface high is centered near the Rocky Mountains with this
ridge extending well southeastward toward the SE CONUS. This
setup is continuing to draw cold air southeastward from Canada
into the region.
It will be another chilly and breezy afternoon with increasing
clouds. This will be due to another fairly potent shortwave
trough aloft approaching from the west and most of the high res
models in addition to the GEM Reg are indicating this will
result in some precip developing towards the late afternoon over
parts of eastern PA...mainly from Berks County northward
through the Lehigh Valley into the southern Poconos. And the
concern we have digging a little deeper is that temperatures may
be just cold enough for this to fall as mainly snow showers
here even though high temperatures in this area are forecast to
be in the upper 30s to low 40s. This is because temperatures
aloft are quite cold with values around -8 C at 850 mb. Also of
note is that the increasing low level moisture in the 0-2 km
layer along with fairly steep low level lapse rates and the
continuing brisk westerly flow looks to result in Snow Squall
Parameter values reaching the 1-3+ range by late day near Berks
County north to the Poconos (anything above 1 indicates
heightened threat of there being snow squalls). The upshot is
that we have a growing concern for snow showers developing here
by late afternoon with the risk of even some snow squalls. The
temperatures make this a challenging forecast in terms of how
significant any impacts will be as again, highs should be a good
5- 10 degrees above freezing. But despite this, any heavier
snow showers that develop here will be capable of cooling the
column to around freezing due to evaporational cooling effects
meaning in addition to visibility concerns, roads could become
slick...especially secondary roads. Again, tricky forecast with
the confidence regarding snow squalls and associated impacts
being moderate at best but this will need to watched closely
over the coming hours. Highest threat for any impacts will be
the I-78 to I- 80 corridor over NE PA by late afternoon reaching
into NW NJ by early evening. Any snow accumulation that occurs
should be generally under an inch with the main threat being
briefly heavy snowfall rates causing sharp reductions in
visibility. The other challenging part of the forecast is how
far south/east any rain/snow showers make it. Think that
activity should stay mainly N/W of the urban corridor but we do
keep slight chance POPs in the forecast in this area from Philly
NE through Trenton. The good news here though is that the
somewhat warmer temperatures should limit any major roadway
impacts as it also may be more of a rain/shower mix along with
the potential for a bit of graupel.
Heading into tonight, the potential for snow showers and
localized squalls will continue into the first part of the
evening over the aforementioned regions of NE PA into NW NJ with
activity diminishing by mid to late evening as the shortwave
passes to the east. Clearing will follow with another cold night
in store. In fact it will likely be a few degrees colder than
this morning with lows mostly in the 20s and even some teens
over the southern Poconos.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
A cold weekend and breezy conditions also on Sunday following
an upper trough/sfc front which will cross the region.
Temperatures Saturday will be around 10 degrees below normal
while Sunday will be closer to 15 degrees to the cold. Wind
chill readings Sunday will be in the teens for the southern
Poconos and 20s elsewhere. Winds Sunday will be west-northwest
at 15 to 20 mph with gusts 25 to 30 mph. The best news is that
sunny conditions are expected across much of the area with
cloudiness restricted to the farthest NW areas.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Next week, the bitter cold will moderate after one more cold
day (Monday). Readings monday will be similar to saturday with
mostly 30s N/W and low or perhaps a few mid 40s for Delmarva and
the Delaware Valley. More dry weather and high pressure remain
across the region.
Beyond that, no strong systems appear to be in our future Tue
or Wed and temperatures will pop back to near normal levels Tue
and remain there for Wed. More fair weather expected. The longer
range models are hinting that some clouds and maybe some rains
may arrive later on Thanksgiving Day.

move eastward across our region between about 22Z and 02Z. KRDG
and KABE are most likely to be impacted by snow showers, low
ceilings and reduced visibility. However, the potential exists
for rain showers and snow showers at our remaining TAF sites,
as well. West wind around 10 knots gusting to 15 to 20 knots.
