.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will pass across the area on Saturday bringing some
scattered showers and ushering in colder and much drier air into the
region. Breezy conditions and fair weather will prevail Sunday and
Monday as high pressure gradually settles into the region into early
next week. A weak disturbance may bring a few showers to the area on
Wednesday, then high pressure moves offshore. Another frontal system
will approach the region Thursday and Friday bringing another period
of unsettled weather.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
For the remainder of the overnight, a few sprinkles are possible
mainly between I-78 and I-95. A mostly cloudy and mild night is
in progress with light west to southwest winds. The persistent
cloud cover will likely mean that temperatures will struggle to
drop much into the 40s through daybreak. I think we'll end up
seeing morning minimums within a few degrees of 50, which is
where we currently stand.
Saturday is setting up to be an interesting day. At the start of the
day, a short wave/vorticity impulse will move across the area while
one of several surface troughs crosses the area. This will likely
lead to a period of showers that will move across the area during
the morning hours. Temperature across the higher elevations will
likely be cold enough for snow to mix in or be the dominant
precipitation type for the morning hours. If any snow does occur,
little if any accumulation is expected, generally a half inch or
less.
After this round of showers moves out of the area, another short
wave will move into the area as the mid-level low to our west moves
eastward, while yet another surface trough moves across as well.
With the cold air aloft, lapse rates steepen quite significantly and
there will also be 100-200 J/kg of CAPE. Scattered showers are
expected, and there will be a chance for a few isolated
thunderstorms during the day. There will also be a chance for
embedded graupel/small hail with any showers, regardless if thunder
occurs.
As the surface trough and short wave aloft move east of the area,
showers will dissipate through sunset and most areas will remain dry
through the rest of the night. The exception is for isolated snow
showers to impact the higher elevations overnight as northwest flow
could keep lake effect type showers moving down into the area.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Cold and dry advection, for this time of year, will continue into
the early part of next week. The coldest air will not arrive until
later Sunday night and not begin to moderate for about 24 hours.
Sunday's temperatures will be below normal in a mix of sun and
clouds. High temperatures will have a tough time climbing above 50
degrees. It's going to be breezy on Sunday with northwest winds
gusting to 25-35 mph. The strongest gusts will occur later in the
day. A few snow showers are possible across the southern Poconos

layer mixed. Winds will remain elevated overnight into early Monday.
Temperatures will fall well into the 20s overnight with mid to upper
10s north of I-78. This will produce minimum winds chills in the low
10s (single digits near and north of I-78) into early Monday
morning. In terms of high temperatures on Monday, temperatures will
struggle to get out of the 30s. Apparent temperatures will be in the
teens and 20s much if not all day.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Fair weather is expected Monday night into Tuesday. Temperatures are
expected to remain below normal through Tuesday. Dewpoints will be
uncharacteristically low on Monday. Values in the single digits can
be expected. Winds on Monday will be sustained from the northwest
around 20-25 mph with gusts of 30-35 mph, possibly a little stronger
near the coasts and in the higher terrain areas north of I-78.
Monday night will be another cold one. Low temperatures will be in
the 20s (10s near and north of I-78) once again with minimum wind
chills in the teens to single digits. Highs Tuesday will rebound
some and mainly be in the 40s. Northwest winds will be much less.
Lows Tuesday night will be mostly in the 20s with low 30s expected
across Delmarva and near the coasts.
A weak mid-level wave may bring some showers/snow showers to the
region on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Can't rule out some diurnal
snow showers all the way down through southern NJ and into Delmarva
Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Will carry PoPs Wednesday
night into Friday, as well, as a mid-level trof, centered over the
Great Lakes, begins to pivot east and dominate east coast weather.
Temperatures will rebound further the last half of the work week
with afternoon high temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

resulting in restrictions, so I have left prevailing VFR
ceilings with the latest TAF issuance. Scattered showers will
affect the area during the afternoon. These showers may be
accompanied by briefly stronger winds than what will be
prevailing, isolated lightning/thunder, small hail, and/or
graupel. Given the low coverage of thunder, I have left out any
mention in the TAF and gone with a TEMPO for SHRA at all
terminals along with MVFR vsby and ceilings. Westerly winds
will increase to 10-15 kts with gusts 20-25 kts. Moderate

Although some of the region received up to 1.00 to 2.00 inches of
rain the last two days and it will be cold early next week, windy
conditions along with a very dry airmass will be in place Sunday
through Tuesday. This has raised fire weather concerns.
Northwest winds will increase behind a reinforcing cold front on
Sunday, sustained around 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph along
with RH values in the 30s. Sunday night will see little recovery and
have maximum RH values only in the 40s. Sunday will continue to see
breezy conditions. On Monday, sustained winds will increase somewhat
to around 20-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. RH values will drop
below 30% in most areas. The winds will begin to lessen into Monday
night, but will still be sustained around 10-15 mph with gusts up to
20 mph with maximum RH values only in the 40s again. These winds
