Fire weather is the main weather story today and tomorrow. During
the day today, the stationary front in the Red River valley will
weaken as it moves north into KS by late afternoon. This will bring
much warmer conditions to the northern half of Oklahoma. While this
is ongoing, Height falls over the central Rockies associated with
the west-coast approach on a strong upper low will induce MSLP falls
and increase gradient winds this afternoon across the southern
plains. While this increase boundary layer moisture advection into
much of Oklahoma today, it will also bring increasing southerly
winds across the the panhandles and into the western border areas of
Oklahoma and southward into north Texas. A Red Flag Fire Warning is
in effect for a small part of western north Texas this afternoon.

Moisture will continue to increase on the moderate south winds
overnight and eventually set up a gradient somewhere over the
western third of Oklahoma on Tuesday. The strong upper trough
approaching southern New Mexico Tuesday afternoon will greatly
increase mid-level wind speeds over the central and northern Texas
panhandle and into west central/northwestern Oklahoma. This will
push the dryline into western Oklahoma with strong and gusty
southwest winds following. A wind advisory will be issued for
western and north central Oklahoma from late Tuesday morning into the
early evening. With RH values in the lower teens, a Red Flag Fire
Warning is in effect for much of western Oklahoma and adjacent parts
of northern Texas Tuesday afternoon The warning will continue into
the night because of the wind shift to northwest and moderately
strong speeds behind the cold front. Both winds after the dry line
in the afternoon and then again after the front's wind shift
overnight will be sufficiently strong to cause fast-moving fires for
any that start or are pre-existing.

.LONG TERM...

There continues to be a consistent forecast for the severe weather
potential Tuesday night, as a dryline in western Oklahoma and
western north Texas pushes eastward through the region. Through
Tuesday, any storm development will be suppressed due to CIN and a
capping inversion throughout the region, which will delay the onset
of thunderstorms until late Tuesday evening, likely after 9pm CDT.
An upper level longwave trough with an associated upper level
cyclone will provide support to enhance lifting in addition to the
lift generated by the surface dryline movement, which will alight
Tuesday evening. A low level jet will also orient itself south to
north throughout central Oklahoma, which will provide ample deep-
layer shear (0-6km shear > 60kts). With this low/moderate CAPE
(MUCAPE < 1500 J/kg) high shear environment, initial discrete
supercells with all hazards are possible. These storms will likely
develop upscale over time, developing into a line of storms
which, due to the enhanced shear, will likely include embedded
mesovortices and rotation. While all hazards will continue to be a
concern, damaging winds will become the primary threat later
during the overnight hours.

Behind the line of storms and after the dryline passage, a cold
front will begin to enter the region from the northwest Wednesday
morning. In addition to the cooler temperatures, precipitation is
possible behind this cold front and with additional upper level
support with the upper level cyclone exiting the area to the
northeast. No severe weather is expected while this precipitation is
expected to impact mostly northern and portions of central Oklahoma.
This round of showers and storms will exit the area by Wednesday
evening. Behind the cold front, widespread strong northerly winds
will likely require a wind advisory through the day on Wednesday.

The cold front will bring near to below average temperatures will
continue through the remainder of the week and into the weekend. A
upper level shortwave moving through the region will bring another
chance of precipitation Friday and into the weekend.

Primarily VFR conditions most of the forecast period with strong
southerly winds at all locations with LLWS through at least 14Z.
MVFR cigs still possible across central Oklahoma terminals between
12-18Z as stratcu tries to advect north and west overnight before
mixing back to the east. Strong winds will be the main impacts
with gusts 30 to 40kts common, possibly windier at KWWR for a few
hours in the afternoon. As dryline begins to move east tomorrow
evening, still looks like scattered TSRA will try to develop
02-04Z and quickly into a squall line from near KSPS up through
KLAW/KOKC/KOUN toward KSWO/KPNC before end of forecast period.

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms Tuesday evening
into early Wednesday morning. The slight risk covers locations
near and east of a line from Waynoka, to Clinton, to Knox City,
Texas. While damaging winds and large hail will be the most main
severe weather hazards, a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Thunderstorm chances return Friday but severe storm chances
appear quite low.

Critical to extremely critical fire weather conditions are
expected Tuesday afternoon and evening across northern and western
Oklahoma, and western north Texas.

.Strong Winds...
