.SYNOPSIS...
Light to moderates snowfall overnight, especially over the
Cascade crest, southeast Washington and the southern to central
Idaho Panhandle. A strong winter storm capable of heavy snow
arrives late Wednesday through Thursday. Significant snow fall is
expected for the passes with moderate snow amounts possible across
the Basin. Drier weather comes into the region for the weekend
into early next week.

.DISCUSSION...
Expanded the winter weather advisory for tonight into the Palouse
with 2 to 3 inches expected through about 6 AM. Snowfall amounts
were increased about 0.5-1.0 inches overall, which also includes
the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene areas. Snow ratios seemed a bit low and
I bumped them up to between 13/1 and 16/1 with good lift in the
dendritic zone and 850 mb temperatures generally between -3 to -5
Celsius for the areas in the advisory. Roads are expected to be a
bit slippery for the morning commute. /SVH

IN LOW IFR CONDITIONS AT TERMINALS INTO THURSDAY MORNING...
A shortwave disturbance disturbance will spread light to moderate
snow over the region tonight. Moderate snow accumulations will be
possible at Pullman/Moscow Airport by early Wednesday morning;
wet slushy snow expected at the Lewiston Airport; and light
accumulations along and north of a line from KEAT to KCOE. Snow
will bring IFR conditions to terminals. Drier air down the
Okanogan Valley is expected bring improving ceilings down to OMK-
EAT-EPH-MWH with stratus beginning to lift after 09-12Z. This
drier air is expected to push into GEG-COE corridor by the
afternoon as well.
A high impact winter storm is expected Wednesday night into
Thursday. Widespread heavy snow is expected through Thursday
morning with a transition to mixed precipitation and pockets of
freezing rain possible as well before surface temperatures
