.SYNOPSIS...A frontal system will bring light rain to most of the
Bay Area and Central Coast on Saturday morning with lingering rain
showers into the afternoon. After a cold start to Sunday morning, a
warming trend will occur into the middle of next week with record
warmth possible by Tuesday and Wednesday.

.DISCUSSION...as of 01:53 PM PDT Friday...Mostly clear sky
conditions prevail over the region this afternoon with
temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s at this hour. Look for a
few degrees of additional warming through the remainder of the
afternoon along with an increase in high level clouds from the
west. Clouds will increase region-wide overnight in response to an
approaching mid/upper level weather system. This will keep
temperatures generally in the 40s to around 50 through Saturday
morning.
The aforementioned weather system will push a frontal boundary
across the San Francisco Bay Area around or just after sunrise
Saturday. This will bring light rain to the region before shifting
inland and southward across the Central Coast by late morning or
early afternoon. Post-frontal rain showers are then anticipated to
linger into Saturday afternoon. As colder, more unstable air
advects into the region in wake of the frontal passage, there
remains a less than 10% chance of thunderstorms. While the
probability for thunderstorms is low, cannot rule out some of the
more convective rain showers to be accompanied by small hail
through Saturday afternoon. When all said and done, most of the
region can expect to pick up between 0.10" to 0.25" of rainfall.
As always, some of the interior valley locations may see less than
0.10" while areas along the coastal ranges or locations that
experience heavier rain showers could exceed 0.35". Aside from the
rain/rain showers, mostly cloudy conditions will persist through
much of the day Saturday with temperatures only warming into the
50s to lower 60s. Additionally, breezy and at time gusty northwest
winds will develop in wake of the passing system.
Precipitation will diminish in coverage by Saturday evening
allowing for clearing sky conditions overnight. With this, light
winds (inland) and the cold air advection aloft, Sunday will start
off chilly with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. More sunshine
will allow for a warming trend to begin on Sunday when daytime
temperatures will peak in the mid/upper 60s. A more robust warming
trend is expected through midweek as high pressure over the
eastern Pacific builds into the West Coast. By Tuesday and/or
Wednesday, widespread 80s are likely across the interior with
low/mid 70s closer to the coast/bays.
Temperatures trend slightly cooler through the remainder of next
week as the high pressure aloft flattens and weakens. That said,
high pressure will remain the dominate feature holding
temperatures at or above seasonal averages along with dry weather
conditions.

.AVIATION...as of 11:10 AM PDT Friday...For the 18Z TAFs. Aside
from a pesky patch of recurring fog near KMRY this morning, VFR
conditions with light to locally breezy onshore winds forecast
for the day today. Look for increasing high clouds arriving from
the northwest ahead of an approaching storm system. Low clouds may
permeate the coastal gaps late this evening through the early
overnight period and bring localized VLIFR-MVFR cigs. Then, the
surface cold front will sweep through the region tomorrow morning
and bring light rain that will transition into rain showers in the
post frontal environment through the remainder of the day
tomorrow.
Vicinity of KSFO...VFR today with high clouds and breezy onshore
winds this afternoon. Low confidence on borderline MVFR/IFR cigs
overnight. Then, light rain to rain showers through tomorrow with
generally MVFR cigs and visbys possible.
KSFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals..VFR with increasing high clouds. VLIFR-
LIFR cigs return late this evening/overnight. Frontal boundary
will bring light rain to rain showers tomorrow morning through the
day.

.MARINE...as of 11:01 AM PDT Friday...A cold front will pass
through the waters late today through early tomorrow. Winds will
be fairly light and southerly today ahead of the front while
rapidly strengthening post frontal north winds are expected to
develop tomorrow afternoon with occasional gusts to gale force
late Saturday into Sunday morning. Very steep fresh seas are
expected with these stronger winds that are hazardous to small
craft vessels. Winds remain breezy to gusty through Monday before
weakening Tuesday.
