.SYNOPSIS...Seasonably cool conditions will persist across the
region as another dry frontal boundary sweeps through central
California. Little day-to-day change anticipated through late week
with another system potentially bringing light precipitation to
the Bay Area this weekend, yet confidence remains low for
widespread rainfall.

.DISCUSSION...as of 8:45 AM PDT Tuesday...No significant updates
planned for this morning. Morning satellite shows mostly sunny
skies except for some stubborn low clouds around SF Bay, along the
coast and Monterey Bay region. These low clouds should continue
to mix out before high clouds from an approaching weak boundary
push in this afternoon. Gusty northwest winds over the ocean later
today into Weds as the front moves through keeping temperatures
seasonably cool for late October with highs in the 60s and lower
70s with lows in the 40s to around 50 near the water. At least
through Friday fairly benign and seasonal weather will continue
with little day to day change.
Next item to focus on will be any light rain chances for the
weekend. Ensemble guidance shows about a 20-40% (highest northern
Sonoma) over the weekend as a weak front may drag out of the
Pacific Northwest and clip the region. However the more likely
scenario is little or no rain with cluster analysis keeping the
flow fairly zonal vs troughing into the weekend.
PNA looks to remain negative through the end of the month keeping
temperatures on the cool side of normal. A few ensemble members
want to bring a stronger system into NorCal but most members dont
support this with the main storm track over the PacNW. By the end
of the first week of November the mean trough axis looks to shift
eastward with a more likely return to high pressure, offshore
winds and dry conditions.

.PREV DISCUSSION...as of 3:04 AM PDT Tuesday...In wake of the
frontal passage, temperatures will only warm into the 60s near the
coast to lower 70s inland. North to northwest winds will
strengthen out over the Pacific and near the coastline. Overall,
wind gusts near the coast are expected to reach between 25 to 35
mph with occasional gusts to 40 mph this afternoon and evening
with stronger winds remaining offshore. Temperatures will once
again drop into the 40s and maybe even upper 30s in the wind
sheltered valleys overnight into Wednesday morning as a result.
The return of drier conditions are also likely with brief periods
of offshore winds across the interior.
Only subtle day-to-day changes are expected through the remainder of
the week as weak troughing to zonal flow persists aloft. This will
result in seasonable weather conditions for late October with
overnight lows in the 40s to lower 50s and daytime highs in the 60s
to lower 70s. By late week, the forecast models have been hinting at
another mid/upper level trough dropping into the Pacific Northwest
and bringing chance of precipitation back to the region for this
upcoming weekend. That said, the deterministic and ensemble guidance
is trending drier with the greater probability of precipitation
remaining focused over the Pacific Northwest. Will continue to
monitor trends and adjust the official forecast accordingly in the
days ahead. Regardless, there is good agreement that an unsettled
pattern is likely to persist into the beginning of November
maintaining seasonable temperatures. The main question will be
whether the Bay Area and Central Coast is able to get any measurable
precipitation.

.AVIATION...as of 10:34 AM PDT Tuesday...For the 18Z TAFs. VFR
through the TAF period. Winds will become moderate to breezy this
afternoon with thinning cloud cover. These winds will weaken
through the evening and become lighter into the night. While
surface winds weaken, winds aloft over portions of the North Bay
remain strong through much of the night, leading to LLWS concerns
at STS. Lower clouds look to be scattered and inconsistent through
the night. Expect winds to build again into late Wednesday
morning.
Vicinity of KSFO...VFR through the TAF period. The afternoon offers
breezy westerly winds peaking around 18 kts with 23 kt gusts. These
winds will linger through the evening but will weaken into the
night. Expect similar breezy winds for Wednesday afternoon.
KSFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.
Monterey Bay...VFR through the TAF period. Expect moderate westerly
winds through the afternoon, reducing into the evening, and becoming
light and variable through the night. Moderate northwesterly wind
build late Wednesday morning.

.MARINE...as of 10:35 AM PDT Tuesday...Increasing northwest and
north-northwest winds are expected with waves from 6 to 10 feet
across the outer waters. Northwest swell 13 to 15 seconds remains
in the background through much of the week. Another front is
expected to come through late Tuesday and into Wednesday, with
wave heights increasing to as high as 12 feet and the potential
for gale force gusts in the outer waters and coastal jets. Winds
and seas diminish by the end of the week.
