Light snow showers have been the word through the night across
mainly the northwest wind snow belts. Webcams show some snow covered
roads in these areas, but from what I've seen there and radar
returns, accumulations appear to be mostly light and very fluffy.
Pressure rises of 2 -3 mb per 3 hours per MSAS analysis and CAA has
resulted in some breezier winds here and there, mainly over Lake
Superior and near the lakeshores. Lows so far have largely stayed in
the 20s so far.
For the rest of the night and early morning, incoming ridge axis and
increasing dry air should result in LES slowly tapering off. Winds
are expected to also lighten through the night, but still expect
some patchy blowing snow here and there mainly in the areas exposed
to Lake Superior in Alger and Luce County.
.LONG TERM...(Today through Wednesday)

Upper air pattern consists of a 500 mb ridge on the west coast and a
trough over the lower Great Lakes this morning. Next clipper system
comes in tonight with a shortwave moving through the upper Great
Lakes and another late on Saturday into Sat night. The first clipper
has some 850-500 mb q-vector convergence and deeper moisture moving
through tonight. Had to go with advisories tonight across the east
half of my cwa due to having some lake enhancement off of Lake
Michigan and also for the Keweenaw Peninsula. Gets close to advisory
elsewhere, but stays just underneath with this first clipper.
In the extended, the GFS and ECMWF show a 500 mb ridge across the
western U.S. and a deep trough in the ern U.S. with a trough axis
across the upper Great Lakes 12z Sun. The trough axis moves to the
east coast 12z Mon and the ridge axis moves into the Mississippi
River Valley 12z Tue. A broad 500 mb trough develops across south
central Canada 12z Wed which digs into the northern U.S. 12z Thu.
Temperatures will start off below normal and then go above normal
starting on Tue and Wed, then back to below normal for Thu.

Northwest flow lake effect snow showers will linger late tonight
mainly at KCMX and KIWD in the wake of a cold front that passed
through this afternoon. Expect mostly MVFR conditions, although
KCMX will probably have IFR vsbys into early afternoon in lake
effect snow and blowing snow as northwest winds could gust to 25
kts at times. MVFR cigs will linger at all sites through Thursday
morning but then the lower deck will lift out to VFR conditions
with backing winds Thursday afternoon. Snow and IFR conditions
should move back into all the sites late afternoon into the
evening as the next Clipper system approaches from the Northern
Plains.
