Key Messages:

- Arctic cold through the weekend with wind chills 15 to 25 below
zero tonight.

- Light snow likely this evening into tonight south of I-94.

- Another chance for light snow Sunday evening into Sunday night
eastern half of forecast area.

Surface high pressure moving into the forecast area this morning has
led to mainly clear skies. With continuing CAA highs will only be in
the single digits above zero for most this afternoon with some
double digit readings possible near the Buffalo Ridge. A fast moving
clipper system in the northwest flow aloft will move through the
area tonight with snow likely south of I-94. Any accumulations with
this clipper should only be a dusting to about half an inch. Lows
Saturday night fall below zero again across the area, with
temperatures 10 to 15 below across the northern CWA. Winds will be
lighter though so a wind chill advisory may not be needed with wind
chills looking to bottom out around 15 to 25 below zero. Another
surface high builds in behind the departing clipper for Sunday with
highs a few degrees warmer than Saturday. Sunday night another fast
moving clipper in the northwest flow will bring a chance for light
snow to mainly the far northern and eastern half of the forecast
area. Again, any accumulations should be light, ranging from a
dusting to around a half an inch. High pressure behind this clipper
will give a mostly sunny day on Monday with highs in the teens and
lower 20s. As high pressure moves off to the east WAA kicks in on
Tuesday with temperatures rebounding to above normal, with highs in
the upper 20s to mid 30s. A shortwave moving north of the area could
bring a slight chance of snow to northern and eastern parts of the
forecast area later on Tuesday. A cold front associated with the
northern short wave will knock temperatures back to below normal for
Wednesday and Thursday before they rebound to end the week. A strong
low pressure system looks to develop in the southern stream midweek,
but it look like it will be too far to the south and east to bring
much impact to our area beside cloudiness, although the Blend did
bring slight PoPs just barely into the southeastern CWA on Wednesday.

.AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Sunday afternoon)

VFR, but with some mid to high clouds this afternoon. Chances for
light snow move in this evening with snow most likely at AXN and RWF
with a chance at STC, MKT, and MSP. Snow chances at STC, MKT, and
MSP are 30 percent or less, so they are not in the TAFs. Even if
snow does not reach these sites there will be a chance for some MVFR
and BR as the snow moves through. Winds will generally be light
throughout the TAF period with the highest winds of around 10 knots
possible at MKT overnight. Although light the winds will be westerly
through this evening with a shift to the north overnight and a shift
to the south or southwest Sunday afternoon.

KMSP...

VFR expected this period with a chance for the MVFR this evening as
SN and BR moves through. The chance for this is 30 percent or below
so it was kept out of the TAF. Light winds shift northerly tonight
before going back to the southwest Sunday afternoon.
