Zonal upper flow over the Southeast begins to rotate from w-e to
sw-ne as an upper level trough moves over the Southern Plains
tonight into Monday and an upper ridge builds over the central
Atlantic. Surface high pressure stretching north along the
Mississippi River shifts east to over the Mid-Atlantic/New England
coast in response, with northerly winds shifting to east to
southeasterly Monday. The dry airmass over the forecast area
begins to see an increase in moisture levels Monday, mainly in the
mid to upper levels. The biggest increase in low level moisture
remains west of the forecast area, closer to the upper system over
the Southern Plains.

For today through tonight, the continued cool northerly flow will
keep temperatures well below seasonal norms. Today, temperatures
topped out in the low 50s north of Highway 84 to around 60 along the
coast. Tonight, with winds becoming light and clear skies expected,
temperatures are expected to fall well below seasonal norms. Areas
along and north of Highway 84 will see temperatures ranging from the
upper 20 to near freezing, with mid to upper 30s south to near the
coast, and around 40 along the coast. As cool northerly flow eases
Monday, temperatures will see an uptick, topping out in the around
60 to mid 60s across the forecast area. /16

.SHORT TERM...
(Monday night through Wednesday night)

Within a large scale upper trof pattern over much of the central and
western CONUS, a well defined shortwave over the south central
states ejects off towards the Great Lakes through Tuesday and is
absorbed into the larger pattern in the process. An associated
surface low will be located near the mouth of the Sabine River
early Monday evening and progress along the Louisiana coast to
the Mississippi coastal waters by late Monday night. The surface
low then moves into the central Florida panhandle during the day
on Tuesday, and in the process a warm front is expected to lift
into the immediate coast of Alabama and coastal portions of the
western Florida panhandle before the surface low exits to the
east. The warm section will likely see SBCAPE values of 1000-1500
J/kg along with 0-3 km bulk shear values of initially near 45
knots over the Alabama coast which decrease to 35 knots for the
western Florida panhandle coast. 0-3 km helicity values look to be
around 200 m2/s2. The Storm Prediction Center has the immediate
coast outlooked for marginal risk of severe storms on Tuesday which
looks good at the moment. Will need to continue to monitor this
system, although there appears to be a subtle trend for the path
of the surface low to be further south which could end up
lessening the potential for severe storms over land portions of
the area. As the system moves across the area, will have pops
increasing to likely/categorical Monday night then the
precipitation ends from west to east on Tuesday with dry
conditions expected for Tuesday night. Rainfall amounts have
decreased somewhat from earlier guidance and now look to be mostly
around 1 inch which could result in some localized nuisance
flooding. Dry conditions follow for Wednesday and Wednesday night.
Lows Monday night range from the lower/mid 40s well inland to the
mid 50s at the coast. Highs on Tuesday will be in the mid to
upper 50s well inland to the lower 70s at the immediate coast.
Lows Tuesday night range from the mid to upper 30s well inland to
the mid 40s at the immediate coast. Highs on Wednesday range from
the lower 50s well inland to the lower 60s at the immediate coast.
Lows Wednesday night range from around 30 well inland to the
upper 30s/near 40 at the immediate coast. A moderate risk of rip
currents Monday night will be followed by a high risk for Tuesday,
then the risk decreases to low by Wednesday. /29

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Sunday)

Dry conditions are expected to continue over the area through
Friday as much drier deep layer air flows into the region. A
5-Wave scale positively tilted upper trof will have meanwhile
evolved over the CONUS which then gradually takes on a meridional
orientation while progressing either across or into the eastern
states over the weekend. A surface ridge will be in place over the
region through the period, and it looks like there will be
sufficient moisture return in an overrunning flow pattern to
support slight chance pops for Saturday afternoon and Saturday
night, with dry conditions returning for Sunday. Lows Saturday
night range from the lower 30s well inland to the lower 40s at the
coast, though at this time it appears that the precipitation will
come to an end over interior areas before there is a potential for
a wintry mix to develop. Will continue to monitor. /29

Moderate to at times strong offshore winds will ease tonight into
Monday along with shifting to the east and southeast as a system
approaches from the west. Winds will then strengthen ahead of the
approaching surface low Monday night as the low moves over the
area Monday night through Tuesday. This passing surface low brings
variable direction winds to the area waters before moving off,
with moderate to strong offshore flow following. A Small Craft
Advisory will be issued with this package beginning 00z Tuesday,
lasting to 00z Thursday. Another surface low approaches area
waters the end of the week, helping to maintain the moderate to
strong offshore flow and may need to extend the SC.Y further
through the week. /16
