Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Mobile AL 546 PM CST Sat Feb 19 2022 .AVIATION... 00Z issuance...VFR conditions continue through the period with a few passing upper level clouds. Light northerly winds tonight transition into easterly winds Sunday morning and then southeasterly Sunday afternoon. Wind speeds will increase on Sunday to around 10 knots with occasional gusts near 20 knots especially along the coast. /14 && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 350 PM CST Sat Feb 19 2022/ NEAR TERM UPDATE /Now Through Sunday/...Zonal flow persists over the area through Sunday as upper level ridging over the southern Gulf of Mexico slowly builds north towards the area. Surface high pressure continues to dominate the forecast area as it slides east across the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic states through the period. With no appreciable moisture being advected into the area through the near term period and no notable upper level systems affecting the area, expect mostly clear skies to prevail. Some slight moistening of the upper levels may help to create a few more high level clouds Sunday. Otherwise, temperatures this afternoon have topped out in the upper 50's to lower 60's. Tonight is cold once again with lows in the lower to middle 30's for most, with upper 30's to near 40 along the immediate coast. We are a little warmer tomorrow, with highs generally making it into the middle 60's and perhaps a few upper 60's over inland areas of southeast MS and southwest AL. MM/25 SHORT TERM /Sunday night Through Tuesday night/...A zonal upper level flow will transition to southwesterly as an upper trough digs across the west coast and an upper ridge expands over the southeast Gulf. A series of shortwaves moving through the southwest flow will generate scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms mainly to the northwest of the area through Tuesday. Surface high pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coast will create a southeast to south sfc flow over the area with PW values increasing to 1.3 to 1.4 inches by Tuesday afternoon. With the best upper dynamics and deep layer moisture values remaining northwest of the area through Tuesday, the highest rain chances will remain mainly northwest of I-65. Temperatures will continue to warm with highs in the low 70s on Monday and mid and upper 70s to near 80 on Tuesday. Lows will be in the mid and upper 40s inland to low 50s near the coast Sunday night warming to the low 60s by Tuesday night. /13 EXTENDED TERM /Wednesday Through Saturday/...A passing shortwave across the upper midwest will give the stalled boundary to our northwest a push to the southeast as a cold front. This will bring increasing rain chances on Wednesday as the front moves southeast Wednesday night. The front will stall across northern portions of the area or just north of the area late Wednesday into Thursday before moving back to the north on Thursday as a warm front ahead of a stronger trough ejecting into the plains. This will send the front back to southeast and through the area as a cold front late next week with increasing rain chances with a cooler airmass moving in for early next weekend. Warm and muggy conditions prevail through much of the period with highs in the mid and upper 70s to around 80 inland to low 70s near the coast Wednesday and Thursday before cooler air returns to the area late in the week. /13 MARINE...Moderate northerly winds today gradually transition to a moderate northeasterly flow tonight. These winds become light to moderate and shift southeast by Sunday.
