NEAR TERM /Now Through Thursday/...A southeasterly flow will
continue to bring moisture back into the area through Thursday as
an upper shortwave approaches from the west. The potent shortwave
will eject northeast out of the southwest states and take a
neutral to negative tilt as it moves across the ArkLaTex region
and into the Ohio Valley by Thursday afternoon and evening. A sfc
low will develop and deepen as it moves from the ArkLaTex region
Thursday morning into the northeast by Thursday evening. A
trailing cold front will sweep across the area Thursday evening
into Friday morning. Strong warm air advection will be ongoing
across the area Wednesday night and Thursday, with a warmer and
more moist airmass feeding into the area from off the Gulf of
Mexico. Surface dewpoints will increase into the mid to upper 60s
for most locations by the end of the day on Thursday. Isolated to
scattered showers will move into our area from the southwest
Wednesday night, with the timing for the more widespread showers
and a chance of storms Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening.

There remains a threat of severe thunderstorms across portions of
the area, mainly along and northwest of I-65 where the best
overlap of shear and instability will reside Thursday afternoon
and evening. This is where the SPC has outlooked a slight risk
area with a marginal risk across the remainder of the area. Shear
values will be more than favorable for severe storm development,
however the upper level shortwave is expected to weaken with time
pull rapidly away to the north of the local area. This will
likely cause shear values to weaken and become more
unidirectional with time by Thursday night. The question is how
unstable will the environment become with warm mid-level temps
likely limiting CAPE profiles. These mesoscale features will have
to be closely monitored in case a more favorable CAPE/Shear
balance develops.

In addition to the severe threat, heavy rain may also develop if
the system slows down as some guidance suggests by Thursday night.
A strong southeast to south wind will also develop on Thursday
with non-convective winds of 35 to 40 mph at times and a wind
advisory may be needed. Due to the strong onshore flow, there will
also likely be some coastal hazards associated with the passage
of this system. A high risk of rip currents will remain through
Friday night. A potential for high surf along the beaches will
also the present, as well as the threat for minor coastal
flooding. /13
