Area of middle level clouds continues to push southeast into the
area, and should cover the whole area in the next hour or two.
There may be some lower clouds that develop overnight into Tuesday
morning in northern parts of the area as well.

Some weak reflectivity in radar across far western Wisconsin may
be the beginning of the focused warm air advection developing, but
not seeing any ground truth from it with the drier air in the
lower levels. Not expecting any precipitation to occur overnight
into Tuesday morning, as moisture remains somewhat limited in the
low levels.

The clouds should linger into the rest of Tuesday, as more focused
warm air advection develops over the area. Gusty south winds
should bring highs into the middle 30s across the area.

The Arctic cold front will push through the area Tuesday evening,
with gusty west to northwest winds behind it for later Tuesday
night into Wednesday.

Temperatures will fall after the front moves through, with
temperatures remaining nearly steady in the single digits above
zero to teens Wednesday. Wind chills should drop into the 10 below
to 15 below zero range Wednesday in south central Wisconsin, with
single digits below zero wind chills elsewhere.

Tonight through Wednesday:

Stratus clouds continue to dissipate across se WI late this
afternoon. The sfc ridge over MN and IA will slowly move across
srn WI tnt followed by brisk sly winds and warm advection for Tue.
This will be in response to a 996 mb low moving along the
US/Canadian border and across Lake Superior for Tue-Tue nt.
Additional stratus may form early Tue AM and linger some amount
through Tue with the low level warm advection. Expect lows tnt to
drop into the teens with ptly cloudy skies expected at times,
although higher confidence in more clouds late tnt into Tue AM as
the mid level baroclinic zone moves through the area. High temps
for Tue in the middle to upper 30s. The arctic front will then
pass early Wed AM with temps falling into the single digits and
teens by sunrise with little change through the day.

Wednesday night through Monday:

An arctic airmass will prevail over the area for Wed nt-Fri AM.
The arctic high will move across srn WI late Thu nt-Fri AM. Below
zero temps for Thu and Fri AM inland from Lake MI, with highs only
in the single digits for Thu. It does not appear at this time
wind chills will reach -20F.

Sly winds and warm advection will kick in for Fri afternoon into
Sat AM ahead of an approaching sfc trough from the Great Plains. A
shortwave trough and cold front will then pass on Sat. Only small
chances for lgt snow at this time. Temps will rebound into the 20s
for Sat. A Clipper system in nwly flow aloft will then move across
the region either Sun or Mon, but much uncertainty with the track,
timing, and strength.

.AVIATION...

Area of middle level clouds around 10000 feet AGL continues to
push southeast into the area, and should cover the whole area in
the next hour or two. There may be some MVFR category clouds
around 2000 feet AGL that develop overnight into Tuesday morning
in northern parts of the area. This could affect Madison, Waukesha
and Sheboygan, but will leave mention out of TAFs for now.

Light west winds overnight will back south Tuesday morning. The
VFR category clouds should linger into the rest of Tuesday, with
some MVFR still possible in northern parts of the area including
Sheboygan. There looks to be a period of 800 to 1200 foot AGL
ceilings Tuesday evening across the entire area.

Gusty south winds by midday Tuesday will continue into Tuesday
evening and become southwest. Outside chances for low level wind
shear conditions Tuesday evening, with south southwest winds
around 40 knots at 2000 feet AGL, but too borderline to mention in
TAFs at this time.

The Arctic cold front will push through the area Tuesday evening,
with gusty west to northwest winds immediately behind it and
lingering later Tuesday night into Wednesday. Ceilings should
rise to VFR category by later Tuesday night.

A surface ridge of 29.9 inches over Minnesota and Iowa will move
across Lake Michigan early Tuesday morning. Modest northwest
winds will weaken into this evening and become variable late
tonight and Tuesday morning.

Low pressure of 29.4 inches along the North Dakota and Canadian
border on Tuesday will then move across Lake Superior Tuesday
night. Brisk southerly winds will develop by late Tuesday morning
into the evening then veer west to northwest with the passage of
an arctic front. A Gale Watch has been issued for the north half
of the lake for late Tuesday afternoon and night. Brisk northwest
winds will then prevail for Wednesday into Wednesday night as the
low moves away.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday afternoon from Sheboygan to Winthrop Harbor. This
advisory is for brisk south winds becoming west to northwest with
the passage of an arctic front. Winds are expected to gust to 30
knots.
