Temperatures should fall to the low to mid 20s with some areas in
the northeastern parts of the CWA potentially getting into the
upper teens. The high continues to push out with the low beginning
to push in Tuesday evening bringing chances for precip by the
late afternoon/early evening.

.SHORT TERM...

Tonight through Thursday:

Polar high pressure will continue to move across WI this afternoon
into the early evening. Middle to high clouds will gradually increase
tnt, but still enough time for falling temps through the 20s and
possibly teens beforehand. Sely sfc winds also will not increase
until the early morning hours.

Upper ridging will then occur on Tue as a strong shortwave trough
moves from the Rockies into the central Great Plains along with
its cyclogenesis. The 700 mb baroclinic zone will move from sw-ne
across srn WI during the day. Very dry air will remain in the low
levels but if enough elevated instability occurs, brief showers
will be possible. Only slight chance PoPs for now.

Low pressure around 989 mb will then move from NE to IA Tue nt
and onto east central WI for Wed eve. A swly 50-60 kt LLJ will
bring elevated moisture and instability into the region Tue nt
with showers increasing in coverage along with a few tstorms
possible. The warm front will then move through on Wed along with
the approach and passage of the main shortwave trough through Wed
nt. The wrn edge of another strong sly LLJ may affect the area
with these aforementioned features, thus a continuation of showers
and some tstorms. Sly winds will boost temps into the middle 50s
to lower 60s.

The cold front will then pass late Wed nt along with rain
changing to snow north and west of the MKE metro area. Some light
snow accum may occur over south central WI. Lgt rain and snow will
then linger on Thu as another shortwave trough approaches and
passes through from the nw. High temps only in the 30s for Thu.

.LONG TERM...

Thursday night through Monday:

The upper low will slowly shift east out of the Upper Great Lakes
Thursday night. There could be some lingering light snow showers
Thu evening, but winds and clouds should be diminishing. Brief
ridging overhead will allow for some sunshine and lighter winds
on Friday, along with slightly warmer temps. Winds will be out of
the west for most of the day, but as they taper off, a lake
breeze is possible.

Another partially-phased upper trough making its way across the
Northern Plains and Plains is expected to phase and intensify
over the Midwest Saturday morning. The surface low should track
across IL, but the inverted trough may bring light snow to
southern WI Saturday into Saturday evening.

There is yet another upper trough that will cross the Plains early
next week and bring another chance for precip.

Quiet conditions tonight with VFR likely through Tuesday afternoon
with mostly mid to upper level CIGS. By the evening we will start
to see MVFR CIGS and rain potential increase. This will increase
chances for reduced VSBYS in rain but the main concern will be
lowering CIGS which should become IFR overnight. Otherwise expect
breezy southeast winds starting late morning Tuesday and remain
breezy throughout the night.

Light north winds will become variable this evening, then
southeasterly toward sunrise on Tuesday as high pressure around
30.4 inches moves east of the lake. Breezy southeast winds will
then develop Tuesday afternoon and night as low pressure around
29.2 inches moves from the central Great Plains into Iowa. The low
will then move across central or northern Lake Michigan Wednesday
night with a cold frontal passage to follow. The brisk winds will
become brisk northwesterly after the cold front passage for late
Wednesday night into Thursday. There continues to be some
potential for gale force gusts from Tuesday night through
Thursday.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect from noon Tuesday until 7 PM
Wednesday from Sheboygan to Winthrop Harbor due to breezy
southeast winds and building waves.
