.SHORT TERM...

Tonight through Friday night:

A mix of rain and snow continues across southeastern Wisconsin
this afternoon. This activity will continue to slowly push
southeast of the area as surface low pressure over Michigan
progresses eastward, along with the mid level trough that has
been across the region for the last few days.

West winds should stay up just enough overnight to limit fog
potential, but couldn't rule out some patchy ground fog in
sheltered areas given the abundant low level moisture. Lows
tonight will fall into the low to mid 30s.

Friday looks to be an active day across the region, starting with
a band of warm advection forced precipitation moving across the
area during the morning hours. This is expected to mostly be rain,
and should be relatively light in nature, bringing a few
additional hundreths of an inch of liquid to the area. Most
widespread chances will be north of I-94.

By afternoon, a strong shortwave and associated Arctic front will
be approaching the area from the northwest. Steep low level lapse
rates and ample moisture will set the stage for widespread
convective snow (possibility mixed with a little graupel) showers
during the afternoon and early evening. It's not clear whether
this activity will rise to the level of officially qualifying as
"snow squalls" for warning purposes, but the potential is at least
there. At the very least, sudden drops in visibility and gusty
winds are likely with the snow shower activity.

The convective snow showers are expected to peak in coverage
during the mid to late afternoon hours, and then slowly diminish
through the evening, though deep cyclonic flow will likely keep at
least some light activity going into Friday night. Lows are
expected to fall into the 20s.

.LONG TERM...

Saturday through Thursday:

Any remaining snow showers should exit eastward over Lake Michigan
shortly after dawn on Saturday morning. The day should be dry as
high pressure slowly builds into the area, but highs will only be
in the mid 30s coupled with a stiff northwesterly breeze, which
will lead to a rather raw day. A secondary cold front is then
expected to push through from north to south Saturday evening,
reinforcing cold air over the region. Lows overnight into Sunday
and from Sunday into Monday will be in the upper teens with
daytime highs in the 30s.

WAA will increase during the afternoon on Monday, increasing
ascent over the area. Snow showers are expected to develop
overnight and linger into Tuesday morning before switching over to
rain with diurnal warming.

From Tuesday evening onward, another prolonged precipitation event
is expected to occur as a large low pressure system spins up over
the plains and makes its way east. WAA looks to warm southern
Wisconsin enough to where we'd see mostly rain from Tuesday night
through Wednesday, before light snow wraps around on the back side
of the system on Thursday, much like how the system we're
experiencing now looked in extended outlooks a week ago.

IFR conditions are starting to slowly improve to MVFR from north
to south this afternoon. Low end MVFR will then continue for most
of tonight, though ceilings could occasionally fall back to IFR at
times. Precipitation is also slowly ending from northwest to
southeast this afternoon.

Winds will become more westerly overnight and into Friday morning.
A strong cold front is expected to move through the area Friday
afternoon into early Friday evening, with very gusty northwest
winds and convective snow showers expected. Rapid, significant
drops in visibility can be expected with the snow showers.

Light northeast winds will become more westerly this evening,
continuing into Friday morning. A strong cold front will then
move across Lake Michigan late Friday afternoon and evening. Brisk
westerly winds will quickly develop and become northwesterly,
lasting into Sunday morning. Wind gusts will approach gale force
for Friday evening through Saturday. A Small Craft Advisory is in
effect for the nearshore waters from Friday afternoon through
Saturday afternoon. The potential for gales will continue to be
monitored.

Winds will slowly ease Sunday and Sunday night, as high pressure moves
into the area.
