A shortwave trough over the Pacific NW will amplify from the nrn Great
Plains into the wrn Great Lakes for Tue-Wed. The sfc low currently
over MT will deepen to 991 MB as it reaches nrn Lake MI and
occludes on Wed. The approach of the low will make for breezy
sswly winds and warm advection Tue-Tue eve. Despite the snow
cover, high temps could easily climb well into the 30s. The strong
cold front and brisk wly winds will then arrive late Tue nt and
Wed AM. Areas of light snow especially toward central WI is
expected.

Tonight through Tuesday:

Gusty south to southwesterly winds will continue tonight into
Tuesday ahead of an approaching low pressure system. Despite the
clear skies overnight tonight, the warm air advection should be
enough to keep temperatures in the low to mid teens. As the low
pressure system approaches from the northwest the pressure
gradient will tighten causing the southwesterly winds to increase
throughout the day. As the winds increase, so to will the warm air
advection. This will lead to day time highs in the low 30s and
some increasing cloud cover.

.LONG TERM...

Tuesday night through Monday:

The low pressure system approaching from northern Plains will move
through the northwoods of Wisconsin Tuesday night into Wednesday
morning dragging an arctic cold front with it as it passes. The
majority of the snow Tuesday night is expected to stay in north
central Wisconsin. As more snow wraps in behind the low pressure
system during the day Wednesday, the northern edges of our CWA
will see a better chance for snow showers. Regardless, its looking
like a glancing blow for any snow showers for much of south
central Wisconsin. Despite the low QPF expected, sounding show
support for a saturated DGZ, which will bring some very fluffy
snow and the potential for near an inch of snow across the far
northern portions of our CWA.

Wednesday will also be quite windy due to increased synoptic
mixing caused by the cold air advection. This increased mixing
could tap into the strong 925mb winds, which could give us some
westerly wind gusts to 35 mph. The combined winds and cooling
temperatures will lead to wind chill values near during during the
daytime hours and in the negative teens overnight.

The arctic air mass that moves in behind this low pressure system
will settle into the Great Lakes Region for Thursday and Friday.
Daytime highs on Thursday will be around 10 degrees with overnight
lows dropping into the negative single digits. Will have to keep
an eye on conditions moving into Thursday night as winds may be
high enough to warrant a wind chill advisory. Similar temperatures
are expected Friday, however winds are expected to diminish.

Warmer conditions will then return to Wisconsin for the weekend,
as a low pressure system passes through Ontario. This will bring
southerly winds back to southern Wisconsin and more warm air
advection.

conditions tnt and Tue, followed by an increase in Cigs of 1-3 kft

overnight. Areas of light snow will accompany the lower Cigs along
with brisk wly winds.

A surface ridge of 30.5 inches over the Ohio Valley will continue
to move southeast this evening. Meanwhile, low pressure over the
northern high plains tonight will then deepen to 29.3 inches as
it reaches northern Lake Michigan on Wednesday. This will allow
for brisk south to southwesterly winds into Tuesday night. A
strong cold front will pass on Wednesday with west to
northwesterly gales expected over all of the lake. A Gale Watch
has been issued for the southern half of the Lake for Tuesday
night into Wednesday evening, and for the north half of the lake
for Wednesday afternoon and evening. Brisk northwest winds will
then linger into Thursday.

For the nearshore waters from Sheboygan to Winthrop Harbor, a
Small Craft Advisory is in effect from 15Z Tue until 09Z Wed for
brisk south to swly winds and waves building to 4 to 8 feet. This
is followed by a Gale Watch from 09Z Wed until 03Z Thu for the
potential for westerly gales.
