(Issued 1111 AM CDT Tue Sep 27 2022)

A shortwave trough on the back side of the upper low will slowly
dive ssewd today across srn WI, followed by vorticity maximums
into tnt over ern WI. Broken stratocumulus have developed and
cannot rule out isolated and brief showers over ern WI this
afternoon. Far sw WI may remain partly cloudy through the day.

For tnt the large upper trough will begin to shift ewd with sfc
ridging building through the Upper MS River Valley. Will be
considering a Frost Advisory for Sauk, Iowa, and Lafayette
Counties where confidence is higher in light winds and clearing
skies.

Impressive 500 mb height rises are then expected on Wed with low
amplitude ridging on the 582 DM height contour for late in the
day and night. There may be enough cold air aloft for few-sct
cumulus for ern WI into the middle of the day on Wed, but still a
nice, cool, autumn day with high temps in the middle to upper
50s.

.SHORT TERM...

Today and Tonight:

While today is not expected to be especially active there will
continue to be some impacts from the upper low as it pushes out.
The upper low has continued to bring chances for showers and that
will continue today with chance in the far east as well as chances
in the far west. Currently there is a few showers in central MN
that will slide southeast early this morning perhaps reaching the
western parts of the CWA by daybreak. This is primarily a result
of moisture in the low to mid levels with some minor upward
motion. This not expected to impact much if any of the area but
there will be a very slight chance for a few sprinkles for a few
hours later this morning. Into the day the chances with increase
for a few showers in our far east, similar to yesterday. CAMs
suggest decent potential for a few isolated showers enough to
bring in at least a slight chance pops for this afternoon across
the far eastern parts of the CWA. This will again be primarily
large scale forcing from PVA associated with the UL low and
supported by lower level moisture. Overall higher pressure will
push in during the day but the UL low will linger long enough to
keep some precip chances lingering this afternoon.

Into tonight we should see higher pressure continue to build in
but it will continue to contend with lower pressure to the east
that may keep the pressure gradient decently strong across the
CWA. The thought tonight was for a likely chance for frost, and
while frost still remains fairly likely the region may be
restricted somewhat due to breezier winds than expected overnight.
The far west should expect frost with temperatures falling to the
low to mid 30s with areas further east remaining in the mid to
upper 30s. Given some uncertainty we will hold off on any Frost
Advisory at this time but it will likely be needed for at least a
part of the area.

.LONG TERM...

Wednesday through Monday:

Winds may linger a bit Wednesday but overall with the strong high
pressure pushing in will likely be a return to quiet conditions in
the area. The upper level trough/low and associated surface low
will finally push out to the east with large scale ridging
becoming dominant across the region. Strong high pressure will
linger over the area through at least Thursday. While the high
will weaken it should remain the dominant surface feature through
at least the weekend if not even into midweek next week. This
looks to be a very dry period with the UL ridge inhibiting much on
the way of shortwaves. In addition the low to mid levels will
remain very dry. There actually seems to be quite a bit of
certainty with this as well as these features seem to be very
prominent in the models and are features that tend to prevent much
in the way of changes. Things may change a bit toward the
beginning of next week but it will be much easier to elaborate on
any concerns as we approach the weekend.

Gusty northwest winds will continue through this afternoon before
becoming more northerly by Wednesday morning as a low pressure
remains to the east. With the system still in the region expect
some lake effect showers and a few thunderstorms to remain
possible today with chances for a few waterspouts. Winds will
shift northeasterly and become light Wednesday night as high
pressure moves overhead. A Small Craft Advisory will remain in
effect for winds initially but as winds decrease into Wednesday
the waves should still be high enough. Thus it remain in effect
until Wednesday afternoon.
