Upper low shifts further north, opening into the background flow
tonight. High pressure offshore then dominates Sunday through
early next week. A cold front moves through Monday night with
some scattered showers and storms ahead of it.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
As of 3 PM Sat...The upper low, which has far outlived its
welcome in eastern NC, finally moves northward and begins to get
absorbed into the background upper troughing tonight, with
minimal height rises and very weak upper subsidence developing
locally. With diminishing lift, the loss of diurnal instability
should spell the end of showers/storms this evening despite
ample low level moisture. The primary concern overnight will be
the potential for clearing and calm winds inland to lead to the
development of radiation fog. Have opted for patchy fog in the
forecast for now, but more significant fog impacts are possible
if clearing is more prevalent. Lows mainly in the lower 60s,
with fog development inhibiting cooling beyond that.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 3 PM Sat...General troughing aloft prevails across the
eastern US with a shortwave passing well to our south. Limited
moisture aloft will keep precip chances low Sunday, but there
remains enough low to mid level moisture that 1-2 kJ/kg CAPE and
minimal capping in the afternoon should allow a few isolated to
widely scattered showers/storms to develop along and inland of
the sea breeze front. Otherwise, a warm day with ample sunshine
and light winds is in order for most of of the area.
Sunday night will be mild and muggy, with rain-free conditions
as afternoon convection over the Piedmont is expected to
deteriorate before reaching the area.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 330 PM Sat...A cold fronts will approach and cross the
area Monday evening into Tuesday morning. Ridging then builds
back into the eastern CONUS by late next week with hot
temperatures forecast by the weekend.
Mon...A cold front crosses the area Monday night once again
bringing a threat for shower and thunderstorm activity Monday
afternoon and evening. CAPE values will be a modest 500-1500
J/kg each afternoon and with little shear in place any
thunderstorm that develops is not forecast to be particularly
strong in nature. Highs each day will be in the mid to upper 80s
with lows in the 60s each day.
Tue into next weekend... Upper level flow becomes more zonal by
Tuesday with the departure of the aforementioned front. At the
surface, ridging builds in across the Eastern Seaboard keeping the
area relatively dry Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Behind the
frontal passage on Tuesday a surge of northerly winds will
overspread our CWA keeping hi temps in the mid 80s with lows in the
mid to low 60s both Tuesday and Wed before southerly flow returns on
Thursday. A shortwave trough passes to our north Wed into Thu while
at the surface a weak wave of low pressure tracks NE'wards across
inland NC with its associated warm front lifting N'wards across
the CWA. This will bring a warm and juicy airmass to the region
on Thursday. This frontal boundary will be accompanied by more
shower and thunderstorm activity Thu with a stronger ridge of
high pressure building into the area by next weekend. A warming
trend is forecast from Thu onwards with highs in the upper 80s
to low 90s and lows in the upper 60s in most places by next
weekend.

.AVIATION /19Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
SHORT TERM /Through Sunday/...
As of 2 PM Sat...Volatile aviation forecast through tonight as
low level moisture advection continues, but with
drying/subsidence and decreasing cloud and shower coverage.
Greatest moisture remains within the 3-5 kft layer, with VFR
prevailing this afternoon through early evening, by occasional
MVFR ceilings and visibility reductions in brief showers
possible. Then, overnight, the gradient weakens and the greater
deep moisture pulls off toward the N and E, with areas of
effective radiational cooling developing as clearing increases.
Low level moisture remains sufficient for at least patchy fog to
develop inland late tonight, but coverage and intensity remain
uncertain. Have opted to TEMPO MVFR vis for all sites during the
predawn hours given the uncertainty.
VFR arrives with better mixing after sunrise Sunday. VFR is then
expected to prevail through the day with continued WAA, though a
few isolated showers/storms are possible in the afternoon.
LONG TERM /Sunday night through Thursday/...
As of 2 PM Saturday...VFR conditions expected to prevail through
much of the coming week.

SHORT TERM /through Sunday tonight/...
As of 330 PM Sat...High pressure offshore remains in control,
with mainly light to moderate S to SW flow persisting through
the rest of the weekend. A few gusts to around 20 kt are
possible nearshore Sunday afternoon as winds turn onshore with
the sea breeze. Seas remain 4-5 ft in above normal trade swell
and minimal wind swell, with an occasional 6 ft possible near
the western edge of the Gulf Stream overnight tonight.
Additionally, dew points in the mid-60s and water temps still
in the lower 60s in and near the Labrador current could bring
areas of fog over the coastal waters north of Cape Hatteras
during times of lighter winds, mainly through tonight.
LONG TERM /Monday through Thursday/...
As of 330 PM Sat...However, as a cold front approaches from the
west winds begin to increase back to 15-20 kts with seas
building back to 4-5 feet on Monday. Winds quickly ease by
Tuesday morning back down to 10-15 kts while turning to a NW'rly
direction behind the departing frontal seas decrease to 2-3 ft
across the area. By Tuesday night winds veer to a S to SW'rly
direction once again out ahead of a second cold front though
winds remain at about 10-15 kts out ahead of this frontal
passage.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 345 AM Sat...ENC is entering a high astronomical tide
cycle assoc with the full moon this coming Monday. King Tides in
combination with sely trade swells will bring elevated water
levels across coastal areas through Tuesday with water levels up
to 1-2 ft above ground near the water front during times of
high tide. A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for coastal
zones from the Northern OBX south to Coastal Onslow County.
