.DISCUSSION...The latest visible image shows clear skies with not
much more than a few high cirrus moving in from the northwest
over the northwest part of the forecast area. Even then the
perception is that skies will be clear. A small area of low clouds
exist over the northwest part of Douglas County and should burn
off late this morning and low clouds are already burning off in
portions of the Coquille Basin and it should be clear in the next
hour or two.
Low temperatures were near or at freezing for some locations
along and at the coast this morning and a frost advisory will end
at 10 am pst.
A couple of items we'll be looking at for the next storm will be
winds and snow. A preliminary look at some of the newer data
suggest winds along the coast may not be as strong (or at least
reach high wind criteria) and east of the Cascades. However
favorable wind direction in the Shasta Valley could lead to
moderate to strong winds Saturday into Saturday evening.
Precipitation with this storm is not looking as impressive which
means lower snowfall accumulation for the mountains. All of these
will be looked at in more detail. Please see previous discussion

today through Saturday morning. Marine stratus will surge northward
over the coastal waters tonight into Saturday morning with areas of
IFR/LIFR developing at the coast first south of Cape Blanco, then
eventually north of the cape after 09z. Some of these ceilings may
push into the Coquille Valley as well. Expect ceilings along the
coast to improve briefly midday Saturday, but there is a risk of low-
level wind shear preceding a frontal system offshore. That front
will move in Saturday afternoon with widespread MVFR ceilings, gusty

fronts will bring steep to very steep seas with southerly gales
