.DISCUSSION...

At this hour across the Mid-South, temperatures are in the upper 40s
along the TN/KY border and Tennessee River Valley and mid 50s across
northwestern Mississippi. An upper level low pressure system thats
moved across the Upper Great Lakes and New England states has moved
into over Nova Scotia. Another upper level is moving across the
Desert Southwest. While we still are in between these features flow
has changed to almost zonal and will change by mid day to
southwesterly flow aloft. Temperatures today are expected to be in
the mid to upper 70s with some low 80s across northeast Mississippi.

As advertised over the past several days, we have the chance for
significant severe weather. A strong, negatively tilted shortwave
trough will begin moving towards the area early tomorrow morning.
This trough and attendant cold front will traverse the region on
tomorrow. This will bring strong gradient winds throughout the day.
A Wind Advisory is in effect on Wednesday from 7am to 7pm. We will
likely see sustained wind at 20mph with gusts possible to 50mph.
Along with wind this system will bring strong to severe
thunderstorms. Right now, northeast Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel
and all of west Tennessee sit in an Enhanced Risk for severe
weather. Most of north Mississippi sits in a Moderate Risk.

While the kinematics are strong the question remains the
instability. Dewpoints in the low 60s, PWATs in the 1-1.5in range,
along with cloud cover and the small possibility of any pre-frontal
showers may limit how much instability is available. Right now most
CAPE values look to be in the 500-700 J/kg mostly over north
Mississippi. The primary storm mode looks to be more of a QLCS type
with a small chance of some discrete cellular development ahead of
the front. While unlikely given current set-up it is non-zero
chance. Within the QLCS and any bowing segments wind gusts to 70mph
aren't out of the realm of possibilities. Quick spin up tornadoes
are also possible. Heavy rain is also likely and thus WPC has all of
most of the Mid-South in a Marginal Risk with part of northwest
Mississippi in a Slight Risk for flash flooding. As always do not
drive through flooded roadways and have multiple ways to receive
warnings. This front should exit the area by early Thursday morning.

Thursday and Friday look to be dry and cool as almost zonal flow
sets up overhead. Temperatures look to be in the upper 50s and 60s
with overnight lows in the upper 30s and mid 40s.

A shortwave rotating around a low stationed over the Canadian
Prairie Provinces looks to move over the area for Saturday bringing
another round of showers and a few thunderstorms. At this time it
doesn't look to be anything severe, however this will be watched
closely as we get closer to Saturday. This will cool temperatures
off slightly into the low to mid 60s for daytime highs on Saturday.

Sunday and Monday we look to be mostly dry with a gradual warming
trend as temperatures will be near 70 degrees for most of the area
by Monday. The next disturbance will approach the area late Monday
night, bringing yet another round of showers and thunderstorms.

VFR conditions should persist for much of the forecast period
although lower clouds will move through the region Tuesday morning
with ceilings running around 3500 feet. Winds will be mainly from
the east overnight at around 10 knots before shifting to the south
and increasing to 10 to 15 knots with higher gusts by Tuesday
afternoon. Low level winds shear is possible Tuesday evening.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the Mid-
South Wednesday and Wednesday evening. These storms will have the
potential for damaging winds, flash flooding and possibly
tornadoes.

Spotter activation may be needed on Wednesday in support of severe
weather operations.
