All low clouds have dissipated in the morning with VFR conditions in
place throughout the period. Winds will be out of the south-
southeast areawide with occasional gusts (except at CNM). A weak low-
level jet will keep winds elevated overnight, especially at MAF and
FST. A few thunderstorms are possible later this evening, but aren't
expected to impact any TAF sites at this time. Another round of
stratus may briefly result in MVFR conditions at MAF around 12z
tomorrow morning, but given a lack of confidence in how far west it
makes it, will omit any mention in this TAF update.

Low-level moisture has made its way back into the area with
dewpoints in the 50's and widespread low clouds this morning. The
dryline has backed west of our area and will likely only move into
western portions of the CWA by this afternoon. Temperatures will
warm into the 80's for most locations with 90's along the Rio
Grande. The dryline along with a weak mid-level disturbance could
help trigger a few storms across SE NM down into the Davis Mountains
and Big Bend. These storms look to occur mostly late afternoon
toward sunset. A strong storm is not out of the question, but
widespread severe weather is not expected. One bit of concern is the
risk of dry lightning across the Davis Mountains and surrounding
areas. Please see the fire wx discussion below.

A stronger push of dry air Thursday will send the dryline east
across the Permian Basin by afternoon. Expect downslope,
southwesterly flow to send temperatures well above normal with most
locations in the 90's. Daytime heating along with terrain influences
could help trigger a few storms once again by afternoon. Pecos
County south to the Rio Grande and areas near and northeast of
Snyder will have the best chance to see a storm. Shear and
instability will be sufficient to produce large hail and damaging
winds with any storm. West of the dryline, fire weather will be a
concern with dry, windy conditions developing.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)

An isolated thunderstorm or two may be ongoing Thursday evening as a
weak disturbance moves across the area, helping to initiate
convection along the dryline. A shortwave trough will be positioned
north of the region by Friday afternoon, breezy southwest/west winds
develop across much of the region and pushes the dryline into our
far eastern counties by evening. Fire weather concerns will exist
behind the dryline, see the Fire Weather Discussion for further
details. Temperatures remain above normal Friday with upper 80s and
90s for most with the low-level thermal ridge draped over the
southern high plains. Saturday a weak cold front may push through
the area Saturday afternoon behind the ejecting trough. This "cold"
front will do little to temperatures and upper 80s and 90s are
expected again for daytime highs, though winds will be light.
Guidance is beginning to come into agreement of a digging shortwave
trough arriving late Sunday. This may push the dryline to along the
New Mexico/Texas state line and allow for thunderstorms along and
east of the dryline by late afternoon and evening. Heading into the
next week, quasi-zonal mid-level flow develops across the southern
CONUS. Dry weather and above normal temperatures can be expected
under this pattern.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Fire weather concerns remain low today with relative humidities
remaining above critical levels. There is some concern of dry
lightning near the Davis Mountains with an isolated thunderstorm,
if one develops this evening. Thursday into Friday a shortwave
trough moves towards the southern high plains. This pushes the
dryline across the eastern Permian Basin and Lower Trans Pecos.
Single digit relative humidities, elevated southwest/west winds,
and ERCs increasing to near/above the 90th percentile will result
in widespread near- critical to critical RFTIs across western
portions of the region Thursday and most of the region Friday.
Fire Weather Watches are in effect both days. Additionally,
isolated thunderstorms may be possible along the dryline Thursday,
making dry lightning starts a potential concern. Winds weaken
heading into the weekend, making fire weather concerns more
localized.

southwest Texas and western Texas.

There is a marginal risk of severe storms this afternoon and
evening, mainly over Southeast New Mexico and areas of West Texas to
the south. Any severe storms that do develop will be accompanied by
large hail and damaging winds.

Elsewhere, thunderstorms are possible today and tonight. Any storms
that do develop will be accompanied by frequent lightning, small
hail, gusty winds, and brief, heavy rainfall.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect Thursday morning through Thursday
evening for Southeast New Mexico and adjacent areas of West Texas.
Dry lightning will be possible along the dryline.

There is a marginal risk of severe storms late Thursday afternoon
and evening, mainly over the Western Low Rolling Plains. Any severe
storms that do develop will be accompanied by large hail and damaging
winds.

A Fire Weather Watch is in effect Friday morning through Friday
