EVENING...

* WHAT...West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph 
  expected.

* WHERE...Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CST /6 PM MST/ this evening.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. 
  Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be 
  difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around
trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of
your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if
you must drive.

Temperatures were very cold this morning along and north of the
Trans Pecos as a result of the a lingering Arctic airmass and a very
strong nocturnal inversion. Temperatures will quickly warm up today
across the region thanks to southerly return flow. High temperatures
will be in the 50s north of the Trans Pecos and 60s and 70s south of
the Trans Pecos. Low temperatures tonight should be much more
seasonal as temperatures fall back into the mid 30s and 40s for
most.

Saturday the warming trend continues. An upper-level shortwave
trough enters the Intermountain West by Saturday morning. As this is
occurring, winds will veer around to westerly. The passing trough is
expected to result in gusty winds across much of the area and high
winds may be possible in the Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains where
a High Wind Watch is in effect. Additionally, these winds may help
provide some additional heating in the form of downslope,
compressional warming. High temperatures in the 70s should be
common. As the shortwave trough ejects into the southern plains, an
attendant cold front will slide south. This front should arrive in
the northern part of our region by late Saturday night to early
Sunday morning. Low temperatures will once again fall into the 30s
and 40s for most.

A quick cool down is expected on Sunday in wake a cold front that
will pass thru the area Sun AM. High temps will be 20-25 degrees
cooler than Sat, still this is just a few degrees below normal. The
strong presence of surface ridging Sunday AM along with light winds
and dry air will result in another hard freeze. Increased clouds
Tue ahead of an upper low INVOF nrn Baja and the slow retreat of
surface ridging will ensure that temps will be near seasonal
levels. By Wed AM mstr will increase from the w and -SHRA will
move into the far wrn CWFA and spread ewd thru the day Wed as an
initial mid-level speed max/shrtwv trof moves across the area.
Yet to be determined just how long precip potential will persist
as ECMWF and now the GFS do not move precip out until later Thu.
GFS has trended down on aerial extent from yesterday's runs. 13Z
NBM 50th percentile QPF indicates .20-40" FST/MRF, .10" MAF/CNM,
and .05" SNK. Lower heights/clouds/precip will keep temps down to
seasonal or just above Wed-Thu, respectively. Yet another front
late Fri, a little warmer ahead of the front and noticeably colder
Sat in wake of said front.

and the Permian Basin.
