.SYNOPSIS...08/108 PM.
A warming trend is expected Sunday as weak to locally moderate
offshore develops. Cloudy weather is expected for Monday but with
continued offshore breezes. Then turning warmer Tuesday and
Wednesday with more sunshine. Onshore flow will return at the end
of the week for cooler and cloudier weather.

.SHORT TERM (SAT-TUE)...08/801 PM.
***UPDATE***
Latest satellite and surface observations indicate partly cloudy
to mostly clear skies with some scattered high clouds moving
across the area and some low clouds across interior San Luis
Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Northeasterly winds beginning
to increase across the area with gusts generally 25-35 MPH.
Forecast-wise for the immediate short term, main focus will be on
the Santa Ana winds. Overnight, expect the surface pressure
gradients to increase which will result in stronger winds across
the area. At this time, strongest and most widespread winds will
occur across the mountains/valleys of Ventura and Los Angeles
counties and a WIND ADVISORY remains in effect for these areas
from late this evening through Sunday afternoon. For San Luis
Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, offshore winds will be weaker
and more localized. However, would not be surprised to see some
gusts around 40 MPH through the Santa Lucia range. Otherwise, just
expect skies to remain mostly clear overnight although the
northeasterly flow could continue to generate some clouds across
interior San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.
Overall, current forecast has good handle on the immediate short
term. So, no significant updates are expected.
***From Previous Discussion***
Today we're in transition from a cooler onshore flow to a warmer
offshore pattern that will last through at least Tuesday. Starting
to see northeast winds developing across the Antelope Valley and
moving into the Highway 14 corridor. Expecting this trend to
continue tonight spreading further down the corridor and into the
LA/Ventura County valleys, western Santa Monica Mountains, and
eventually some of the coast as well. Models and their respective
ensemble members have trended a little stronger today and what was
a sub-advisory event has now moved into a marginal to low grade
Santa Ana event, worthy enough of a low end wind advisory for the
areas mentioned above. We'll see the usual warming with those
downsloping winds, but probably not quite as warm as we saw
earlier this week. May still have a few low clouds to deal with
along the LA County coast Sunday morning as well as interior SLO
County but those should clear quickly.
Model ensembles suggest a slight dip in the gradients and upper
support on Monday as a trough develops and possibly cuts off
somewhere between Pt Conception and 30n/120w. The NAM appears to
favor a more progressive solution but the vast majority of the
GFS/ECMWF ensembles support a cutoff low developing. More on that
later. In the meantime, all the models support continued offshore
flow Monday but slightly weaker than Sunday. Since that may drop
wind speeds below advisory levels have opted to confine the
advisory to just Sunday and see how the models look tomorrow for
Monday.
There is good ensemble agreement on extensive high clouds coming
in Monday with the trough so we're still expecting cloudy skies
most of the day which will cut down on the amount of warming. So
temperatures expected to drop a few degrees most areas despite the
offshore flow. Models have mostly abandoned the idea of any rain
Monday so pops have been removed.
Most of the ensemble members support the idea of a slight bump in
offshore gradients and winds Tuesday, similar to Sunday's levels.
And with the high clouds gone and ample sunshine temperatures
should climb a few degrees as well.
.LONG TERM (WED-SAT)...08/126 PM.
Not a ton of confidence in the forecast for the middle and end of
next week as the possibility of a cutoff low lingering through at
least Thursday introduces some uncertainties. A larger number of
the ECMWF and Canadian ensembles now support some rain chances
Thursday, mainly south of Pt Conception as the upper low entrains
some moisture that wraps around from the southeast. The GEFS
remains almost unanimously dry through the period and the official
forecast is dry as well for now but with pops in the 8-13 range.
Will probably have to wait and see how models trend over the next
few days before having much more certainty in the forecast for the
latter half of next week. Either way temperatures are expected to
trend lower for coast and valleys as onshore flow replaces the
offshore flow from earlier in the week but little change elsewhere.

At 0550Z at KLAX, there was no marine layer nor an inversion.
Moderate to high confidence in most TAFs, lower confidence in
KPRB and coastal TAFs south of Point Conception. Low confidence
in timing of cat changes. There is a 40% chance of VLIFR conds at
KPRB from 08Z-15Z. There is a 30% chance that KLGB stays VFR thru
the period. There is a 20% chance of MVFR conds at KLGB, KSMO,
and KLAX from 10Z-17Z.
KLAX...Moderate confidence in the 06Z TAF. There is a 20% chance
of BKN015 cigs between 10Z-17Z Sunday. High confidence that any
east wind component will stay below 7 kt.
KBUR..High confidence in the 06Z TAF.

.MARINE...08/639 PM.
In the outer waters, high confidence that winds will then be
below Small Craft Advisory (SCA) levels thru at least Mon. There
is a 20% chance of northerly SCA level winds from starting early
Tue thru the Tue morning, mainly from Point Sal to Santa Cruz
Island (PZZ673). However, seas will build next week, likely
reaching SCA levels Tue thru Wed.
Across the inner waters north of Pt. Sat, winds will likely remain
below SCA levels thru the period, but seas will likely reach SCA
levels Tue thru Wed.
Across the inner waters south of Pt. Conception, winds will likely
remain below SCA levels thru Wed. However, there is a 20% chance
of SCA level E-NE winds from Ventura to Malibu Sun morning and
again Tue morning. Also, seas could get close to SCA levels
across western portions of the SBA Channel late Tue into Wed.
A long period swell is still affecting the waters. With such a
long period, the buoys will likely highlight this period, although
a shorter 8-12 second swell will still be around and likely be
more noticeable than the longer period swell tonight.
