.SYNOPSIS...26/612 PM.
Onshore flow will bring a cooling trend to the region, along with
increasing low clouds and fog for coastal areas through Thursday.
Warmer temperatures are expected Friday and Saturday, before
onshore flow and cooler temperatures return Sunday into early
next week.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-FRI)...27/236 AM.
Last evenings trof passage was a little more robust than forecast
and produced some light sprinkles as it sped over the area. It
also ushered in a burst of westerly winds that seem to have
disrupted the eddy. As a result there is very little in the way of
low clouds. Satellite shows signs of the eddy starting up so will
keep the low clouds in for the LA county coast but its almost
50/50 if they come in or if skies remain clear. The west winds
have filled the western half of SBA county up with low clouds and
these clouds will last a little past mid morning. There are +5 mb
onshore trends to the east and the east push this afternoon is
forecast to reach 8 mb. This strong gradient will bring near
advisory level gusts to the LA mtns and the Antelope Vly this
afternoon. It will also produce an earlier and stronger cooling
sea breeze. The lower hgts and strong sea breeze will combine to
lower max temps 5 to 10 degrees south of Pt Conception and 1 to 2
degrees north.
Nothing should impede the eddy formation tonight and it as well as
the strong onshore flow should produce a deep marine layer with
low clouds pushing across the coasts and into most vlys. The only
exception will be the western portion of the SBA south coast where
there will be another low end advisory north wind event.
The stronger than normal onshore push to the east will slow
clearing and low clouds will likely not clear until late morning
or even early afternoon in most places. Once again the strong east
push will produce near advisory level westerly wind gusts in the
Antelope Vly. Max temps will fall another 3 to 6 degrees making
Thursday the coolest day of the next 7.
Strong offshore trends to the north Thursday evening will lead to
another round of gusty Sundowner winds across the Santa Ynez
range. This one will have a little more northeast component to it
so it's likely that the entire range from Pt Conception to western
Ventura County will see advisory level gusts, including the hills
above Montecito.
High pressure building in to the north and east of the area Friday
morning will increase the offshore flow from the north and will
bring either very weak onshore flow or even actual offshore flow
in the E/W direction. Marine layer stratus will be limited to the
LA and VTA county coastal areas and this might be a little
pessimistic esp if some the more offshore ensemble solutions
verify. Weak ridging will rise hgts to 578 dam and this along with
the weaker and delayed sea breeze will allow all areas to warm 6
to 12 degrees.
.LONG TERM (SAT-TUE)...27/321 AM.
Saturday should continue the modest warming trend under sunny
skies and very weak ridging aloft. There should be enough offshore
flow to keep the morning stratus at bay.
Fast moving NW flow quickly separates the deterministic EC and
GFS solutions and introduces quite a bit of spread in the ensemble
members as well. So a lower than normal confidence forecast for
Sunday and early next week. It looks like there will be some sort
of troffing over the state both Sun and Mon which will bring an
increase in marine layer clouds and a cooling trend. Tuesday looks
a little warmer.

At 1205Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 2100 feet deep. The top of
the inversion was at 2800 feet and 15 degrees Celsius.
High confidence in TAFs for KPRB, KPMD and KWJF.
Moderate confidence in KSMX TAF, flight cat change timing could
be off by +/- 90 minutes.
Low confidence for remainder of TAFs. Flight cat change timing
could be off by +/- 90 minutes. There is a 30 percent chc of IFR
conds at sites with no restrictions fcst and a 30 percent chc of

KLAX...Moderate confidence in TAF. Timing of flight cat changes
could be off by +/- 2 hours. There is a 30 percent chc that cigs
will be OVC006 on Thurs. There is a 20 percent chc of a 8 kt east
wind component thru 16Z.
KBUR...Moderate confidence in TAF with a 30 percent chc of 3SM BR
OVC008 conds thru 17Z, and again after 08Z Thurs. Good confidence
18Z- 09Z.

.MARINE...27/353 AM.
Moderate confidence that low-end NW Gales offshore from the
Central Coast to San Nicolas Island will start to decrease by
mid-morning. There is a 20% chance of low-end Gales once again
this afternoon and evening for the same waters. High confidence
that these winds will affect the western portions of the nearshore
waters (Central Coast and west SBA Channel) from this afternoon
through late this evening to produce Small Craft Advisory (SCA)
winds. Hazardous seas will continue through at least late this
morning before starting to decrease. All areas will see steep seas
from these winds, with widespread 6-8 second waves. There is also
a long period (15 seconds) west swell, which the buoys may
highlight, but the short period waves are larger in size and pose
a higher risk to most mariners. Thursday will be slightly stronger
than today/tonight with Gale Force gusts likely over the outer
waters, with a chance that the Gales continue through Saturday.
Short period waves will continue through the period.
Southeast winds are expected each morning nearshore through
Friday from Orange County to Santa Barbara. While winds will
generally stay in the 5 to 10 knot range, localized winds of 10 to
20 knots are possible in the San Pedro Channel, Avalon, and the
Anacapa Passage, especially on Friday when the winds look
strongest.
