.SYNOPSIS...23/219 AM.

An offshore flow pattern will linger and bring warmer daytime
temperatures today. Low temperatures will remain chilly during
the overnight hours in wind-sheltered areas tonight. Cooler
temperatures are expected in onshore flow for Monday and Tuesday,
then another Santa Ana wind pattern will setup between Tuesday
night and Thursday. Cooling is possible for late this week.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-TUE)...23/959 AM.

***UPDATE***

We're at the tail end of this Santa Ana wind event but we're still
seeing gusts around 60 mph in the western San Gabriels. Elsewhere,
though winds have dropped off quite a bit and barely in the
advisory levels. Expect to see all lingering advisories to drop
off at 2pm today as gradients trend onshore.

***From Previous Discussion***

A cooling trend is expected for Monday and Tuesday as onshore
flow reestablishes across the region. High-resolution models
indicate the possibility of an eddy circulation spinning up in the
southern California bight on Monday night and into Tuesday
morning. Low clouds and fog were introduced for southern Los
Angeles County and the offshore islands as low cloud formation
should develop. Clouds were limited in their extensiveness for
now, but clouds cannot be ruled out for the Ventura County Coast
and the Santa Barbara South Coast late Monday night or Tuesday
morning. With the weak pressure gradients and the air mass
transitioning from offshore to onshore, there is a distinct
possibilty of dense fog formation, especially for the coastal
areas. If you have travel plans Monday night or Tuesday, stay
tuned to this development as coastal airports and roadways could
be affected on Monday night and Tuesday.

.LONG TERM (WED-SAT)...23/355 AM.

The air mass looks to quickly reverse between Tuesday night and
Thursday. An offshore flow pattern will reestablish as an upper-
level trough dropping down the front side of the ridge will dig
through the Great Basin and into the Desert Southwest region.
Deterministic NAM-WRF solutions and early frames of the local
3-km WRF solutions indicate gusty winds developing between
Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. There is good agreement with
the EPS ensembles now for gusty offshore winds for K3A6, with some
suggestions for a chance of gusty offshore at KCMA. Deterministic
solutions of the NAM-WRF and local 3-km WRF seem to be very
aggressive with another potential wind event developing. With the
recent damaging wind event in the San Gabriel Valley, there's
bound to be much thinking about how similar this could be. At the
current time, the upper-level trough positioning and set up
appears to be much different. The trough center digs east of the
lower Colorado River Basin and is not deepening as it digs. For
now, confidence is growing for another possible Santa Ana wind
event between Tuesday night and Thursday. Temperatures during this
period break away from NBM values in favor of compressional
heating across the coastal and valley areas and cold overnight low
temperatures in the wind-sheltered areas.

Almost all ensemble members of the EPS, GEFS, and CMC solutions
suggest a return to a wet weather pattern around the end of the
month or the beginning of next month. NBM values have been left in
the forecast for now as there is a large spread in timing and
strength at this time.

the inversion was at 300 feet at a temperature of 18 C.

NE winds across the waters from Ventura to Santa Monica are much
weaker now than yesterday. Gusty winds still linger along the
Malibu coast which will likely affect the waters very close to
shore. Current wind observations at Anacapa and Catalina Islands
indicates gusts of 15-20 kt are likely through the rest of the
morning away from shore. Winds are expected to continue to
diminish later this morning through the afternoon. Will let the
current Small Craft Advisory for these waters expire, with the
caveat that SCA level winds are still possible through the morning
close to shore near Malibu.

Winds and seas should remain fairly benign across the rest of the
waters today and flow will shift back to the more typical NW. Gusty
NW winds will make a return on Monday with good confidence in
SCAs being needed for the outer waters from the Central Coast to
San Nicolas Island. A long-period west swell will accompany these
winds and there is a chance of hazardous seas over 10 feet for
the same portion of the waters Monday and Tuesday. Another Santa
Ana wind event is expected Wednesday morning with a chance of
gusty NE winds over the waters from Ventura to Santa Monica.
However, confidence is low to moderate at this time with respect
to strength.
