Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 357 AM PDT Thu Jun 16 2022 .SYNOPSIS...Mostly sunny and dry today. Expect much warmer temperatures this afternoon with most valley locations warming into the 90s. Winds will be gusty late this morning and through the early evening hours, with blowing dust possible. && .SHORT TERM...Today through Friday. As an upper level low just off the Oregon and northern CA coast gradually advances onshore, southwesterly flow over NV will increase bringing much warmer temperatures and gusty winds to most of the CWA. Strongest winds are expected on Friday, especially across central and northeastern NV. Confidence is increasing with respect to High Wind Warning conditions Friday afternoon across the Ruby Mts, Southern Eureka County, Northern Nye County, as well as White Pine County where gusts of 58 mph or higher are looking favorable. The remainder of Central and Eastern Elko County, along with most of Lander County and Northern Eureka County will be gusty on Friday too, however at this time Advisory level winds look more likely in these areas as gusts should mostly be below 58 mph. For now however left the High Wind Watch in effect for all of the aforementioned areas. Dry conditions are expected across the CWA through Friday. Temperatures are expected to be the warmest of the week today, with most valley locations reaching up into the 90s. As the trough approaches from the west on Friday, cooler air will begin to move in over NV. Humboldt County will cool into the 70s on Friday, with 80s for highs across most of the rest of the CWA, with the exception of a few 90s near the Utah border on Friday. .LONG TERM...Friday night through next Wednesday. An unusually strong upper level low pressure system will be making its way eastward. Breezy to windy conditions will again redevelop on Saturday with the strongest winds forecast across White Pine and northeast Nye counties. A wind advisory is likely for these locations. In addition, there is the potential for more blowing dust across the eastern half of the forecast area. Isolated showers are possible along the border with Idaho and Oregon, but these will produce little in the way of accumulation. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s. Isolated to scattered rain showers are expected to be on the increase during the overnight, with activity reaching the US Highway 50 corridor. Accumulations are expected to be light at most locations at less than 0.05 inches, though some of the mountain areas in the north could see 0.10-0.15 inches of rainfall. Overnight lows will be in the 30s and 40s. On Sunday, the upper trough axis will pass through the area. Some cooler air aloft will lead to isolated thunderstorms. These appear favorable along and north of the I-80 corridor for the afternoon period. Winds will be breezy but gusts should remain less than 30 mph. Highs will be much cooler with readings in the 60s to around 70. The system will take its time lifting northward Sunday night with showers expected to slowly diminish in aerial coverage. Monday through Wednesday, quiet weather is expected with afternoon highs warming into the 70s on Monday, climbing into the 80s and 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
