Breezy with a mix of MVFR/VFR CIGS amid a widespread flat cu field
across the area. These general conditions will continue the rest
of the afternoon into early this evening, with more persistent
MVFR CIGS expected to develop this evening/overnight KAEX, KBPT,
and KLCH. SFC winds will also remain elevated and gusty overnight
and into early WED, with LLWS developing as winds increase to
40-50KT at around 2500FT. As the depth of the mixed layer
increases after sunrise and winds aloft increase to 50-60KT, SFC
winds will increase to 20-30KT sustained with gusts 35-45KT. The
temporal window for these strong winds will be longest at the
Acadiana terminals, and shortest at KBPT. In addition, a band or
broken band of TSTMS will push into the area from the west,
reaching a KAEX to KLCH line between roughly 10am to noon.
Inserted PROB groups at these terminals and KBPT to denote the
most likely time of arrival.

AVIATION...
Nighttime microphysics imagery shows low clouds continue to spread
northward acrs the region beneath cirrus streaming in from the NW.
This has yielded mostly MVFR sky conditions at TAF sites this
morning, although sites closer to the coast are beginning to see
more SCT clouds and VFR conditions. Some intermittent MVFR or
possibly IFR cigs can be expected over the next couple of hours,
with VFR to prevail through the rest of the day. MVFR cigs are
expected to fill back in during the evening and overnight.
Southerly winds will strengthen this morning, with sustained
speeds between 15-20 KT and gusts as high as 30 KT possible. Winds
may diminish slightly this evening, but are expected to remain
gusty. A strengthening low level jet could result in some low
level wind shear toward the end of the period, and this is
expected to persist beyond 30/12Z.

SYNOPSIS...
High clouds are beginning to overspread the region downstream of a
closed low over S CA, per recent WV imagery. A sharp increase in
moisture aloft is noted between 00Z and 06Z soundings at KLCH,
with precip water now up to 0.92 inches. At the sfc, southerly
flow has strengthened amid a tightening pres gradient as low pres
deepens west of the region. This has helped to keep any fog at
bay, with most sites acrs the area still reporting 10SM vsbys.
Instead, a somewhat widespread swath of lower clouds have expanded
northward over the area. The stout onshore flow has also hindered
temperature reductions overnight as well, with readings in the
upper 60s (with a few lower 70s noted).

SHORT TERM [Today through Thursday]...
Strong warm advection will continue today as southerly winds
strengthen in response to deepening low pres over the southern
plains as the low over S CA evolves into an amplified trough as it
crosses the southwest states. Fcst soundings show considerable dry
air in the mid levels today and, despite moisture deepening aloft
as well as at the sfc, this should suppress rain chcs for much of
the area today, although a rogue isolated warm advection-type
shower or two cannot be ruled out.

With winds beginning to pick up today, have issued a Wind Advisory
for all but the interior SE TX counties north of I-10. While
sustained wind speeds will probably stay mostly between 15 and 20
mph, frequent gusts between 30 and 35 mph are expected. These
elevated wind speeds will likely continue overnight, possibly
subsiding slightly, but still quite gusty so continued to Wind
Advisory into the overnight period.

Of course, as has been advertised over the past several days,
Wednesday is expected to be the most active weather day this week
as the potent upper level trough emerges over the southern plains,
accelerating the sfc low northeast and swinging a pre-frontal
trough through the region. The trough aloft will assume a more
negative tilt as it approaches the lower MS Valley and, combined
with rather intense kinematic wind fields, will drive a line of
what looks to already be strong to severe storms acrs TX into the
area by early Wednesday morning. Modest buoyancy and strong wind
shear will combine to strengthen convection as it moves east acrs
the area during the day Wednesday. The likeliest region for severe
weather will be acrs W and cntl LA, where an Enhanced to now
Moderate Risk has been outlooked by SPC. Robust wind fields (100+
KT jet at 500 MB and 60+ at 850 MB) and veering low level wind
profiles will support strong rotation in storms. With primary
convective mode expected to be linear, the greatest threats will
be the potential for 70+ mph gusts with bowing segments, as well
as a few QLCS tornadoes (including the potential for EF-2 or
stronger). However, if a few isolated discrete cells could
develop ahead of the line, these will also be capable of strong
damaging winds as tornadoes as well.

Outside of any convection, strong southerly winds will also be
ongoing, with sustained speeds between 20 and 30 mph. Wind gusts
to approach 50 mph at times, especially over the eastern half of
the area, as stronger winds associated with the LLJ mix down to
the sfc. Because of this, maintained the Wind Advisory through
Wednesday aftn. Given the intensity of the winds, a High Wind
Warning may be needed and this will be assessed over the next few
model runs.

The good news is that this system is expected to move quickly to
the east, with the severe threat ending with the passage of the
line which should exiting the lower Acadiana region by late
Wednesday aftn. This will also limit rainfall amounts, with totals
not expected to exceed an inch.

Drier and more seasonal conditions will return to the area
Wednesday night into Thursday as high pres builds into the area.

LONG TERM [Friday through Monday]...

By Friday morning looking at an elongated area of high pressure
that extends from southern Canada south into the Gulf of Mexico
with weak ridging aloft. As a result skies will be sunny with
afternoon temperatures into the mid 70s in central Louisiana with
upper 70s along the I-10 corridor. Clouds begin to move in late
Friday into Saturday morning as another weak cool boundary moves
down from the north with showers and isolated thunderstorms
sweeping across southeast Texas into Louisiana through the late
morning into the afternoon hours. Storms draw to a close during
the late aftn afternoon into the evening hours. Rainfall totals
will average less than 1/2 inch. Highs Saturday around 80 degrees.

This system will only brush the northwest gulf region as winds are
expected to sweep back to the northeast on Sunday with temps
starting out in the low 50s. Sunny skies will allow temperatures
into the upper 70s by the afternoon hours. Another sfc low moves
into the middle of the US as large mass of clouds with isolated
showers moves in from the south and west Monday morning w/ a sfc low
off the deep south Texas lifting up along the latest frontal system
located over the gulf moving into Louisiana with another round of
showers on tap Tuesday.

MARINE...

Onshore flow will strengthen today through Wednesday ahead of a
deepening storm system to the west. A Small Craft Advisory has
been hoisted for the coastal waters zones for today through this
evening, with a Gale Watch now in effect for overnight into
Wednesday as frequent gusts in the 40-45 KT range will be
possible. A line of showers and tstms is expected to move through
the area on Wednesday, in association with a pre-frontal trough.
Some storms will be capable of producing strong wind gusts or
isolated waterspouts. Drier air spread into the area behind the
trough will bring an end to convection, with winds shifting
southwesterly and diminishing slightly late Wednesday. The front
itself is expected to move through the region overnight, with
winds shifting northerly. Offshore flow will continue through
Thursday, with winds veering around to the east by the end of the
week.

Southerly winds will strengthen today, with occasional gusts to
between 25 and 30 mph. At this time, winds are expected to stay
below advisory criteria.

Otherwise, no hazardous weather is expected.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

Southerly winds will remain elevated and gusty tonight into
Wednesday, with occasional gusts to 30 mph expected. A Wind
Advisory may be needed if winds strengthen more than anticipated.

A line of showers and storms is expected to approach the southeast
Texas area early Wednesday morning, moving east through midday.
Storms will be capable of producing damaging winds and a few
tornadoes, and a Slight Risk for severe weather has been outlined for
most of southeast Texas north of I-10. The severe threat will end
with the passage of the line by Wednesday afternoon.

Strong and gusty southerly winds are expected tonight through
Wednesday. Gusts on Wednesday of 40+ mph are possible, outside of
thunderstorms.

A line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to cross southwest
and central Louisiana during the day Wednesday. Some strong to severe
storms are expected, with damaging wind gusts and tornadoes the main
threats. A few strong tornadoes (EF-2 or greater) are possible as
well, primarily in an area of Moderate Risk across portions of
central Louisiana. Elsewhere, there is an Enhanced Risk of severe
weather in a band from Vernon Parish to the Acadiana region, and a
Slight Risk acrs the remainder of southwest Louisiana.

The threat for severe weather will end with the passage of the line
Wednesday afternoon.
