...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 845 PM MDT THIS 
EVENING FOR NORTHWESTERN SHERIDAN COUNTY...

At 422 PM MDT, Heavy rain has ended across northern Sheridan county. 
However runoff from earlier heavy rainfall is likely causing 
flooding across the warned area.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Mount Maria and Metcalf State Wildlife Management Area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Wednesday)
Issued at 350 AM CDT Tue Aug 23 2022

A weakly forced and poorly organized area of showers and isolated
thunderstorms across scntl SD appears to be drifting southeast
toward ncntl Nebraska. The RAP models will carry this rain into
ncntl Nebraska and dissipate it by 15z this morning.

A weak frontal boundary across nrn Nebraska is the basis for
scattered showers and tstms this afternoon. The forcing is currently
moving through nrn WY. The short term model blend was used for POPs
and lines up well with the HREF, HRRR and RAP models. Winds aloft
remain weak and moisture/instability is weak. Ordinary tstm develop
will likely be the operative mode and diurnal heating will limit
coverage this evening. The RAP model suggested isolated storm
coverage lasting past midnight tonight.

The temperature forecast today leans on the warmer RAP and HRRR
models for highs in the mid 90s north and lower 90s south. The
frontal boundary across the north today will drift south through the
Sandhills Wednesday suggesting the warmest temperatures will occur
across swrn Nebraska that day. This forecast is backed by the RAP
model which shows a corridor of warm air advection underway along
and south of Interstate 80.

Shower and thunderstorm chances continue Wednesday but mainly across
nrn Nebraska. There is a chance this POP will be expanded south,
given the expected location of the frontal boundary and the fact the
RAP model shows the rain spreading into Custer county.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Monday)

The general model consensus led by the SREF, GFS and ECM places a
weak cold front across swrn Nebraska Thursday. This leads to
highs in the 80s across the north and lower 90s south. Scattered
POPs continue in place across nrn Nebraska. This is in
anticipation of another UA disturbance drifting east southeast in
the weak 500 mb flow.

A stronger disturbance should move through wrn and ncntl Nebraska
Saturday and POPs continue in place both Friday and Saturday. It is
quite possible a weakly organized cluster of showers and
thunderstorms will develop Friday followed by a stronger round
Saturday but it is difficult to find much focus Friday.

Visual Flight Rules expected areawide through 18Z Wednesday. Short
term models in agreement with isolated to widely scattered showers
or thunderstorms across the north, south to Highway 2.
Thunderstorms that develop will be high based with gusty winds the
main impact.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central Nebraska, north
central Nebraska, panhandle Nebraska, southwest Nebraska and west
central Nebraska.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.

The probability for widespread hazardous weather is low. Isolated to
scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening
across the Sandhills and northern Nebraska. No severe weather is
expected with these storms but locally gusty winds may occur.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

The probability for widespread hazardous weather is low.
Wednesday through the end of the week isolated to scattered
thunderstorms will be possible.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of northwestern Cherry
and northeastern Sheridan Counties through 315 PM MDT...

At 231 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 9
miles north of Rushville, moving east at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.

Locations impacted include...
Gordon, Clinton, Hoover Lake, Lone Butte, Mount Maria, Shell Lake
State Wildlife Management Area, Rock Hill and Intersection of Highway
27 and Mills Road.

This includes Highway 20 between mile markers 94 and 116.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
