No significant changes made to the forecast. Showers have tapered
off significantly, though there are still showers over eastern and
some of interior Puerto Rico. There are also showers still over the
waters, the beginnings of passing showers as well as the remnants of
streamers, that could affect the islands in the next couple of hours
or so. Rainfall totals this afternoon ranged from around 1 to 2
inches for portions of the central and eastern interior into the
north coast; higher amounts were seen in the west, southwest, and
western interior, upwards of 3 to 4 inches in some areas.

Active weather will persist through the weekend; urban and small
stream flooding will remain a concern.

Hazardous conditions also continue for marine and coastal areas.

Brief MVFR possible for TIST/TISX/TJSJ/TJBQ throughout period due to

SYNOPSIS...

Hazardous conditions are expected for multiple portions of the
CWA.

Urban and small stream flooding is expected to be a concern at least
through the weekend and likely on Monday as well, especially for
western/southwestern and interior portions of Puerto Rico.

There is a high risk of rip currents for the vast majority of local
beaches. By tomorrow, the risk of rip currents will be moderate for
all local beaches.

There is a Small Craft Advisory in effect for most of the local
waters for seas of up to 7 to 10 feet.

Conditions are expected to become increasingly unstable through the
rest of the weekend. Active weather is anticipated. Afternoon
convection for the interior and western/southwestern parts of Puerto
Rico, as well as some for the east, is anticipated through at least
Monday. Passing showers will also affect windward portions of the
islands, especially during the night and morning hours.
Thunderstorms are likely, especially in the afternoons in the
western and interior parts of Puerto Rico.

SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday...

An unstable weather pattern will prevail for most of the short term
period. The combination of an upper-level trough and moisture from a
shearline will result in cloudiness and a very active weather
pattern. Afternoon convection will continue through the rest of the
day, with lingering showers into this evening and tonight. This
includes interior, western and southwestern Puerto Rico, as well as
more scattered activity in the east. Model guidance continues to
show the trough sinking southeastward into our area, bringing in
additional moisture and instability aloft. This will lead to
conditions becoming more favorable for shower activity/development
for Sunday. Presently, Sunday looks to be the wettest/most active
day of the period. However, an increase in wind speeds is expected,
associated with a tightening in the pressure gradient over the area
caused by a surface ridge to the north, over the western Atlantic.
These moderate to fresh winds will help to limit, somewhat, the
rainfall amounts, as showers will be quick-moving. Even so, training
is possible, much like has been seen this afternoon, with showers
quickly replacing one another and leading to locally high rainfall
totals regardless of the speed of shower movement. With more
instability, thunderstorms are likely.

Similar conditions are expected Monday as are anticipated for
Sunday. However, some slow, gradual drying is expected to make its
way into the region from the northeast, starting with an erosion of
moisture in the mid-levels. However, significant changes are not
likely until later in the day. Slightly less activity is possible,
but, on the whole, active weather will persist through most, if not
all, of the day on Monday.

Convection will be seen each afternoon, affecting especially the
interior and western/southwestern portions of Puerto Rico.
Additional activity to the east is also anticipated. During the
nights and mornings, scattered to numerous or widespread passing
showers will affect windward portions of the islands from time to
time. Thunderstorms are likely, especially during the afternoons.
Though showers will move quickly across the region each day, locally
high rainfall totals are likely due to training of storms (as in
storms following one behind another such as would be seen with rail
cars, and not as in the storms have been given lessons).

Because of this, urban and small stream flooding will be a threat
through the short term period, and at least some is expected to
occur each day.

LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday...

High pressure will dominate the entire mid-latitude Atlantic ocean
by Tuesday and will be forced eastward across the Atlantic only
when a strong low pressure swings northeast across the Atlantic
coastline of the United States and Canada Thursday night and
Friday. On Friday flow at the surface will turn more east
southeasterly and with some general warming of the airmass around
us, and temperatures on the north coast will become above normal
for a few days.

High pressure at mid levels continues over the Central Atlantic and
the Gulf of Mexico until another long wave trough transits the
eastern United States over the the next weekend. Then high
pressure will build over the central Atlantic while some weakness
is found over the local area. At upper levels, the trough will be
leaning eastward over the area Tuesday, but will retreat well to
the east northeast during the next several days. A short wave
disturbance is expected to cross through the area on Friday with
some weak jet action lasting over the weekend.

Over all moisture will be moderate as mid and upper levels are
fairly dry during the period, but shallow low level moisture will
allow generally unstable low level conditions to generate showers
in the usual diurnal pattern. With night and morning showers on
the windward eastern side of Puerto Rico and somewhat stronger
convection each day during the afternoons in western Puerto Rico.
Showers will be spotty and generally few over the U.S. Virgin
Islands.

AVIATION...

Brief periods of MVFR conds will remain possible at the USVI
terminals and JSJ in SHRA throughout the forecast cycle with VCTS
in and around JPS/JBQ through at least 05/22z. Easterly winds 15
to 20 knots with stronger gusts becoming at around 12 knots
overnight.

MARINE...

Increasing winds and a weak northerly swell are leading to building
seas across the local waters. Buoy 41043 has shown seas of around 7
feet with a period of around 10 seconds through much of the day
today; with the most recent observation at 4 PM AST, the period is
up to 11 seconds. The nearshore buoys have observed seas of around 5
feet; the San Juan buoy has had a period of around 9 seconds. Model
guidance is verifying well so far in terms of wave heights, but the
period was adjusted to reflect observations (the period was
increased by a second for most of the waters that are exposed to the
north through 6Z on the 8th/Tuesday). Conditions are expected to
become hazardous for the majority of the waters by tomorrow, likely
late morning or midday, with seas of up to 8 feet or so tonight,
mostly for the offshore Atlantic waters. Tomorrow, seas of up to 10
feet are expected for the offshore Atlantic waters, and generally up
to around 8 feet elsewhere.

There is a high risk of rip currents for beaches along the north
coast of Puerto Rico from Aguadilla to Fajardo, Culebra,
northwestern Saint Thomas, southern and eastern Vieques, and
northern and eastern St. Croix tonight.

Tomorrow, the high risk of rip currents will spread. Beaches
affected will include western Puerto Rico from Aguada and Rincon
along the north coast through Fajardo, the entire southeastern coast
of Puerto Rico, and all or nearly all beaches of the USVI, Vieques,
and Culebra. There will be a moderate risk of rip currents for all
other local beaches.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for Puerto Rico and the adjacent
Atlantic Coastal Waters.

.Day One...Today and Tonight

.Thunderstorms...There is a chance of thunderstorms with heavy
rainfall and brief gusty winds this afternoon across northern half
and portions of western Puerto Rico.

.Flooding...Heavy rains could lead to urban and small stream
flooding across these areas.

.Wind...Sustained winds in excess of 20 MPH (17 knots) are expected
across northern, eastern and southern local waters of Puerto Rico.

.Waves...Choppy/Rough seas up to 6 feet are expected across the local
Atlantic and Caribbean waters and the Anegada passage.

.Rip Currents...There is a high risk of rip currents for the north
coast of Puerto Rico from Aguadilla to San Juan, Culebra and the
eastern end of Vieques.

.Days Two through Seven...Sunday through Friday

Unsettled weather conditions will continue to prevail across the
local islands Sunday and Monday. As a result, there is a risk of
urban and small stream flooding over the northeast, central and
southwest sections of Puerto Rico. Sharp rises along rivers cant
be ruled out.

The risk of rip currents will continue through the period.
Increasing winds over the local waters will continue into next
week.

Saint Croix. Moderate risk is found at all other beaches.

.Days Two through Seven...Sunday through Friday

Shower activity will increase through Monday with an approaching
frontal boundary. As a result, there is a risk of urban flooding.

The risk of rip currents will continue through the period. Increasing
winds over the local waters will continue into next week.
