EVENING FOR NORTHWESTERN PULASKI AND WEST CENTRAL ROCKCASTLE 
COUNTIES...

At 625 PM EDT, Video footage from the public showed roadway blocked 
by flash flooding in the Eubank area. Up to 3 inches of rain have 
fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in 
the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Public reported.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Woodstock, Bandy, Bee Lick, Willailla, Quail, Level Green, Bromo, 
  Spiro and Eubank.

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Thursday night)

A weak frontal boundary is diving southeast into the region. The
boundary itself hasn't entered the forecast area but convection has
developed and will continue to increase in coverage through the
afternoon. With the slow storm propagation, saturated atmosphere (PW
values around the 2 inch mark) , moderate CAPE (1,500 - 2,000 J/kg);
the flash flooding risk continues to exist across the area. As of
1730Z, a couple flash flood advisories have been issued and with the
environmental profile, confidence is high that this trend will
continue into the overnight. As the front dives south, showers and
thunderstorms will increase in coverage. Still looking at minimal
chances for severe weather but can't rule out a few storms touching
severe limits as there have been areas this afternoon that saw more
sunshine and instability was able to increase to about 2,000 J/kg.
This region is mostly along the Mountain Parkway. Showers and storms
continue into the overnight hours but by early morning, the front
will slowly be exiting the forecast area with showers and storms
decreasing in coverage from northwest to southeast. With the
saturated soils, light winds and moist atmosphere, dense fog is
expected to develop along and behind the front before burning off
late morning.

As the forecast area remains in the longwave trough pattern, closed
circulation sitting off the Atlantic seaboard in far eastern Canada
is progged to drag a secondary cold front through the area early
Friday morning. This will give a few isolated chances of showers and
storms early Friday morning before high pressure develops for the
end of the forecast period. The secondary front will also provide a
reinforcing shot of cold air advection which is progged to keep
below average temperatures in the short-term as well as the long-
term period.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)

A shift towards drier conditions will arrive to start off the
period. An amplified pattern will be in place aloft, with a dome of
5H 596 dam heights sitting across the Four Corners and through the
Central Plains. Troughing will be place across the East Coast, while
a stout 565 dam closed low sits just off the coast of the Pacific
Northwest. A NW flow pattern will keep temperatures at bay through
the upcoming week, while high pressure will traverse through the
Ohio Valley the first half of the weekend. Guidance depicts the
development of an MCS across Central Indiana Sunday, riding the
periphery of the upper ridge southeast through the day, degrading
with time. Given the uncertainty on how this evolves and holds
together, have continued to hold onto slight chance to chance PoPs
(20-30%) until there is a better grasp on this system. Into the new
work week, confidence remains shaky. Eastern Kentucky will remain in
the gradient between troughing to the east/northeast and ridging to
the west. This will keep the area under the influence of passing
complexes, with shower and thunderstorm potential each day -
primarily during the afternoon and evening hours. Toward the end of
the period, operational runs depict a closed low developing across
the Mid Atlantic, bringing additional opportunities for showers and
thunderstorms toward midweek. Ensemble cluster analysis, too, is
struggling with how much impact we will have locally. As such, have
veered close to the blend with slight chance to chance (20-40%) PoPs
each day, gradually diminishing in activity each night with the loss
of heating.

In terms of temperatures throughout the period, below average can be
expected. Highs will generally top out in the upper 70s to low 80s
each day. Lows will be a little more variable, depending on cloud
cloud cover each night, but low to mid 60s can be anticipated Sunday
night and through the end of the period. For Friday and Saturday
night, ridge/valley splits will be likely, as clear nights and calm
winds will be conducive for these splits. Values will range from
the low to mid 50s in valleys and mid to upper 50s atop ridges.

ISSUED AT 118 PM EDT WED AUG 10 2022

A combination of MVFR and VFR CIGS exist across all terminals.
Sites KLOZ, KSME and KSYM have been MVFR/IFR through the morning
and with KJKL and KSJS, there will be fluctuations as convection
continues to develop across the forecast area. Presently,
convection has mostly avoided the TAF sites but with a frontal
boundary sagging southeast, increasing precipitation coverage is
expected to occur this afternoon and continue into the overnight
hours. Thunderstorms may produce strong and erratic outflow
winds. The front is progged to slowly exit from northwest to
southeast through early Thursday but lingering showers and storms
will exist through the end of the period. Behind the departing
front, dense fog is expected to develop which will likely impact
all terminals before burning off late Thursday morning.
