localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Longshore currents
can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers,
jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off
their feet, making it difficult to return to shore.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Affected areas listed are based on
average tide conditions. Additional locations may experience
flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, high winds, or
other factors.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.
Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to
dangerous surf conditions.
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with
lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may
be swept into.

.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure over GA and SC early this morning will intensify as
it lifts northeast across the area today. Canadian high
pressure with below normal temps and dry conditions will follow
tonight thru Tue and likely linger into Wed. Temperatures will
warm to above normal late this week into next weekend as high
pressure aloft and at the surface dominate.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
High pressure wedging in from the northeast while surface
trough along a front stalled to our south. The gradient between
the two has been keeping conditions breezy overnight especially
along the coast. Heading towards midday today the low now over
the Gulf States will follow its mid level parent shortwave,
lifting west of the mountains and weakening. A secondary low
will develop here in the Coastal Plain in the warm advection
zone. As a result rain will spread SW to NE across the area all
while increasing in coverage and intensity. Highest amounts will
be along the coast along and east of the track of the low where
elevated instability will develop, also allowing for a few
rumbles of thunder. SPC has a sliver of Marginal in the Day 1
Convective Outlook but as with past couple of events surface-
based instability will be hard to come by even as wind/shear
profiles strengthen. The inland temperature forecast is very
tricky, hinging very much of the track of the low and what parts
of the area end up in the warm sector. It appears that our
westernmost areas may just barely fail to do so and could see
much lower highs than areas just a handful of miles east. Rain
tapers off quickly from west to east as the low accelerates off
to the NE while deepening, pushing its trailing cold front
readily through the area. Cloud cover may not linger overnight
as thought in recent forecasts, allowing temperatures to fall
into the low to mid 40s.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
No POPs with mainly clear skies except for possible overcast
skies late Wed into Wed night. Upper trof axis extending across
the ILM CWA from the upper low over the Eastern Great lakes
moving into SE Canada, will swing across the area Tue and
offshore from the Carolina Coasts Tue night and Wed. Weak and
low amplitude ridging to prevail later Wed thru Wed night.
Cyclonic NW downslope flow to prevail Tue into Tue night. Even
with an excellent dose of insolation Tue, max temps will only
reach the 60s across the FA. The sfc pg does relax- some early
Tue night then picks back up late Tue night thru Wed night as
Canadian high pressure affects the FA. Lows may initially bottom
out Tue evening then hold steady or drop several more degrees
into Wed morning as winds stay active just enough. Widespread
40-45 degree readings for lows by Wed morning with a few inland
upper 30s possible. The center of the high will push to and off
the coast of the Mid- Atlantic states Wed into Wed night
setting up flow veering to the NE then E-SE Wed night. Wed max
temps will see a mid to upper 60s with a few 70 degree readings
given the mid Apr sun angle. A mid to upper level cloud decks
late Wed thru Wed night may prevent mins from dropping too far
eventhough winds may decouple.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Mainly a dry long term with temps rebounding to and above normal
as the long term evolves. Low amplitude ridging will hold onto
across the SE States Thu as a weak trof bypasses north of the
FA. Come Fri thru Sun, a more amplified upper ridge will take
shape and hold of the FA. This means dry weather conditions to
prevail as sfc ridging affects the FA along with a more
pronounced warming trend with summer-like 80+ degree temps
away from the immediate coast. Light onshore flow and the
resultant wind boundary (aka the sea breeze) each of the 3 days
will dominate this latter period keeping max temps limited to
the 70s along the immediate coast.

.AVIATION /08Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Gusty ENE winds to continue overnight as the area finds itself
between high pressure to the NE and low pressure approaching
from the west. The latter will spread lowered cigs across the
area dipping to the lower end of MVFR or IFR around daybreak.
Rain will increase in coverage and intensity during the morning
hours, the rain's VSBY reaching similar flight restrictions. As
rain wanes Monday night IFR cigs expected to persist.

Through Monday...
Low pressure approaching from the west will take on a complex
and multi-centered nature today. The high off the NE coast will
try to hold its ground upstate. This has lead to Gales over the
northern waters while all other areas solidly in Advisory realm.
As the eastern low comes to dominate near the coast in the warm
advection winds will swing around to the south but also abate
slowly. Gale warning will be lowered to Advisory later today. As
the low accelerates off to the NE later today a cold front will
be pushed through swinging winds around to the NW by tonight,
with advisory-worthy gusts continuing early on before continued
gradual improvement towards the end of the period.
Tuesday through Saturday...
Offshore cyclonic NW flow, below SCA levels, to dominate Tue
and will continue the trend of slowly knocking down the built
seas from Mon. The low emitted from the Bahamas Mon should get
absorbed within the cold front the reaches far offshore Tue
thru Wed. May eventually see some small component of waves from
it that help compose the seas spectrum across the area waters
during the mid-week period. Sfc high to push off the coast and
offshore from the Mid-Atlantic States mid-week, veering the
winds to a NE direction remaining below SCA levels. A rather
decent Easterly fetch develops from mid to late week and into
next weekend, with mainly onshore winds across the FA, hier
speeds and seas south of Little River Inlet ie. further away
from sfc ridge axis. At this point, models keep waves below SCA
thresholds.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A pinched gradient between high pressure wedging down from
points north and east paired with high astronomical tides from
the full moon being two days ago bringing another round of
coastal flooding to both area beaches as well as downtown. The
strong northeast winds also supporting High Surf Advisory for
Pender and New Hanover County beaches. The surf and coastal
flooding combined likely leading to beach erosion and wave run
up to dunes.
