* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one half foot of
  inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near
  shorelines and tidal waterways. For the Beach Hazards Statement,
  Strong north to south longshore current. There is also a
  Moderate Risk of rip currents expected.

* WHERE...Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover Counties.

* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 10 AM this morning 
  to 2 PM EDT this afternoon. For the Beach Hazards Statement, 
  through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal 
  Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may observe minor coastal 
  flooding. Check with local officials for any road closures or 
  impacts. Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers 
  into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. 
  It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to 
  return to shore.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Affected areas listed are based on

AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level in 
  low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.

* WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown 
  Wilmington.

* WHEN...Until 4 PM EDT this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...The lowest portions of USS North Carolina Road and 
  Battleship Road begin to observe minor coastal flooding. Water 
  begins to spread out of storm drains onto Water Street just 
  south of Market Street in downtown Wilmington.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Affected areas listed are based on 
  average tide conditions. Additional locations may experience 
  flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, high winds, or 
  other factors.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.

.SYNOPSIS...
Cooler temperatures this weekend as modest to strong high
pressure fills in over the region. Unsettled weather will
affect the area into early next week.

&&

.UPDATE...
With the mid evening update pops were increased a couple hours
earlier for the coastal zones and per radar trends. Activity has
since become more scattered in nature and guidance is wavering
back and forth. However I leaned to the more aggressive side
citing the over performance this afternoon if little else.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Latest surface analysis shows a ~1037mb high pressure center
near Lake Champlain, ridging south into the Southeast states.
The high is interacting with a frontal boundary offshore to
produce breezy NE winds esp. along and off the coast, and also
combining with the recent new moon to produce some minor coastal
flooding. Details on that along with the increasing rip/surf
threat are provided below in the "Tides/Coastal Flooding"
section. Otherwise, widespread cloudiness continues for most of
the ILM CWA outside of far inland areas. Also continue to see
some light radar returns as the low level NE flow gets
overridden by SW flow above about 7kft. Not sure if we will end
up seeing much QPF out of this pattern, but given the trends in
the guidance and nocturnal influence have included some low POPs
overnight along with some Patchy Drizzle wording into early
Saturday morning. Another mostly cloudy/dreary day expected on
Saturday with continued NE winds. That said, forecast soundings
and ensemble cloud probability guidance are suggesting some
potential for things scattering out a bit late in the day
towards Saturday evening. This has been accounted for in our sky
cover grids. Otherwise, expect highs in the mid to upper 60s
tomorrow, with the aforementioned scattering out late in the day
weighing heavily on our ability to reach the upper 60s (best
potential for this appears to be around the Cape Fear). Have
leaned towards the cool side of the guidance given the pattern
though.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
CAD setup will be in place for the duration of the Short Term
period. Expect NNE winds, partly to mostly cloudy skies, and
low temps slightly above normal on average due to the cloudiness,
with high temps Sunday slightly below normal...upr 60s/lwr 70s.
As for rain chances, mainly expect a dry forecast through this
time period as mid levels will be quite dry despite some weak
isentropic lift. Patchy drizzle again possible.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Late this weekend into early next week a closed mid-level low
over the central CONUS will open and progress off to the east,
dragging the bulk of its energy north of the area. This will
drive a frontal system towards the area, albeit a weakening one,
with forcing fairly marginal but enough to warrant chance PoPs
Monday into Monday night. Not much in the way of instability to
include thunder mention, and any rain will primarily be light.
Another high pressure/CAD setup possible again for mid to late
next week with more dry weather. Temps through the week slightly
above normal...highs in the mid/upr 70s.

.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
With light rain and drizzle continuing and little to no change
in the pattern in store, basically initialized all sited along
the coast at IFR with the exception of CRE which is holding out
for the moment in MVFR. Seems reasonable these conditions will
persist well into the morning hours. It appears inland sites may
be spared but opted for the most pessimistic MVFR conditions
even there. Some slow improvement Saturday but once again it
will be a slow grind.

Extended Outlook...VFR should eventually return into early
Saturday evening and prevail through the end of the weekend
outside of patchy MVFR cigs. Restrictions possible again into
Monday morning as a warm front nears from the south.

.MARINE...
Through Saturday:
Less than ideal marine conditions setting up as strong high
pressure building in from the north interacts with a slow moving
front offshore, along with broad low pressure developing just
west of Bermuda. This will set up low end SCA level NE winds and
seas through Saturday.

Saturday Night Through Wednesday:
SCA conditions continue into Saturday night as 6 ft seas will
linger. CAD wedge weakens thereafter into early next week as a
weak frontal system approaches from the west...allowing NE 15-20
kt winds Saturday night/Sunday to become easterly at 5-10 kt
Monday. By the time Wednesday rolls around, another CAD setup is
possible which will mean a return to NE winds and swell.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Due to the recent new moon combined with strong NE winds and
building ENE swell...expect low end coastal flooding to persist
for the early afternoon high tides through the weekend. Had to
make some manual changes to our Total Water Level forecasts seen
on AHPS (water.weather.gov) given the trend for the recent high
tide that came in above guidance. Expect water levels to
improve as we move into early next week. Also some potential for
High Surf Advisory criteria to be met mainly for New Hanover
County beaches with this swell direction. Current thinking is
it will come in just below (breaking wave heights up to 5ft vs.
the 6ft criteria)...and have held off on advisory as a result.|
