inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines
and tidal waterways. For the Beach Hazards Statement, Strong
south to north longshore current. There is also a Moderate Risk
of rip currents expected.
* WHERE...In South Carolina, Coastal Horry and Coastal
Georgetown Counties. In North Carolina, Coastal Pender and
Coastal New Hanover Counties.
* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 9 PM EDT this

* WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown
Wilmington.
* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to midnight EDT tonight.
* IMPACTS...The lowest portions of Battleship Road and USS North
Carolina Road observe minor coastal flooding of about one foot
in depth. In downtown Wilmington, several blocks of Water
Street observe shallow flooding from one half to one foot in
depth. The low-lying areas along River Road and adjacent
residential roads, south of River Road Park, will begin to
flood. Route 133 at Little Mallory Creek may begin to flood.
Check with local officials for any road closures or impacts.

.SYNOPSIS...
The weather will become increasingly unsettled through the week as
a cold front enters the area and stalls for several days. As
the boundary weakens late in the week shower and storm coverage
will decrease but still remains elevated above normal.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Isolated to scattered convection firing along the sea breeze is
expected to persist into the evening before dissipating with
loss of heating. A cold front approaching from the NW and a
shortwave trough aloft will result in scattered showers and
storms Wednesday, mainly in the afternoon as warm and humid
conditions continue. Lows tonight will fall to the low to mid
70s with highs Wednesday in the lower 90s away from the beaches.
Heat index values should remain below 105 Wednesday.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Showers and thunderstorms will show a nocturnal decrease in
coverage and intensity Wednesday night with loss of heating.
With a front stalled very near the area and a channel of
vorticity centers however they should continue in scattered
coverage (as opposed to mostly dissipating at night). Similarly
Thursday afternoon should feature fairly widespread convection.
Rather than more channeled vorticity a more well-formed
shortwave traverses the area in the evening. SPC continues to
highlight the entire area for Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 5).

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Cold front stalled+shortwave energy overhead + July heat and
humidity=another day of widespread showers and thunderstorms
Friday. Still tough to rule out a severe downburst according to
SPC. Saturday may offer a brief break in the stream of shortwave
energy but the deep frontal moisture lingering will still call
for slightly elevated rain chances especially as the remnants of
the front still shows up in progs. Not so on Sunday, but
shortwave disturbances return, the end result being POPs similar
to Saturday, roughly 10-20 percent higher than normal.
Southwesterly mid level flow persists into Monday but the flow
appears to be less vorticity-laden. Mid level flow veering to
the west on Tuesday should finally dry the mid levels enough to
lower POPs to seasonable norms especially as low levels remain
quite moist (PW remaining above 2").

.AVIATION /22Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Mainly VFR through period. Scattered low clouds will traverse
the area this evening with dew points in the upper 70s, but
expect any CIGs to be few and far between. Expect S to SW flow
around 5 knots overnight, increasing to 5-10 along the coast.
Confidence is low overnight regarding flight restrictions, but
fog and stratus look to be unlikely at this time.
Showers and storms possible tomorrow as a weak frontal boundary
sinks southward through the area. Confidence remains low on
timing and potential terminal impact.
Extended Outlook...A cold front approaches midweek with MVFR
ceilings and visibilities possible in showers and thunderstorms.

.MARINE...
Through Wednesday...Expect S to SW winds of 10 to 15 KT tonight
into Wednesday to increase to 15 to 20 KT by Wednesday
afternoon as the gradient tightens a little as the front gets a
little closer. Seas of 2 to 3 feet tonight will build to 3 to 4
FT by Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday night through Sunday... Wind and waves bolstered
early in the period as a front stalls over land but advisories
not expected. Winds will abate as the boundary weakens later in
the period and winds will stay SW or perhaps back to S. Seas
will only abate slightly as a 9-10 second SE swell remains
coexistent with the wind wave.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Tides will be higher than normal this week due to the upcoming
full moon on Wednesday and due to the moon being at its closest
point to the earth. These high astronomical tides will cause
coastal flooding during the evening high tides along the Cape
Fear River near downtown Wilmington through at least midweek.
Minor coastal flooding will also be possible along area beaches.
