.SYNOPSIS...
Dry high pressure will build in from the west tonight and settle
over the area on Saturday. A cold front will bring widespread
showers to the region late Saturday night through Sunday
morning. High pressure returns Monday, then another cold front
approaches the region around the middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 115 AM EST Saturday: Winds have settled down across our
area over the past few hours with most sites reporting values
of 5 kts or less, and a number of sites reporting calm winds.
Expect the cirrus to continue to stream over the region from
the west thru the overnight and into the morning hours. Temps
will take their time cooling and any widespread fog doesn't
look likely, except in the more sheltered mountain valleys,
especially if winds remain light enough there.

Otherwise, dry high pressure will continue to build over the
area overnight and into the morning. The high will be transient
and will be moving off the Atlantic Coast by the end of the
period early Sunday. Cloud cover will increase later tonight
and into early Sunday with widespread showers spreading over
the CWA from west to east as the period ends early Sunday.
High temperatures should be a few degrees warmer across the
higher terrain and a few degrees cooler over the lower terrain
compared to Friday.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 100 AM Saturday...A cold front continues to track east across
the FA early Sun. Good forcing will be had, yet thermo profiles
still look meager as far as available instability. Soundings show
some small measure of shallow elCAPE possible, so the chance for a
couple general thunderstorms remains non/zero by the time the front
exits east arnd 18z. Strong dynamics will be crossing the area
during the afternoon and mixing up to 2.5 Kft will likely tap into a
stg llvl jet east of the mtns and develop rather gusty winds.
Average momentum transfers noted on GFS profiles near 30 kts so an
advisory will not be needed. A weak sfc bndry and upper jet approach
the wrn NC mtns overnight into Mon morning. Moisture levels are
suspect with this feature, thus precip amts and chances will be kept
low-end. Warm temps are on hand Sun after cloudiness decreases in
the afternoon with highs reaching abt 5-7 degrees abv normal. A
couple degrees cooler on Mon as secondary mlvl wave brings in cooler
airmass mixing from the northwest during the afternoon. Mins will
remain abt 10 degrees abv normal each morning.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 230 PM Friday...An upper-level trough will dig across the
Rockies Tuesday, while ridging builds along the East Coast. The
trough will slowly move east Wednesday, bringing an associated cold
front into our region. The 12z deterministic models are in decent
agreement on the timing of the front, generally Wednesday aftn
or evening. The front will have a good tap of Gulf moisture, and
should spread a solid frontal band of precip much like the expected
Sunday morning front. The upstream sfc high will push east of the
area Tuesday, and well off the Mid-Atlantic Coast by Wednesday. So
the models are not showing any CAD with this system, and there may
be a little more potential for some sbCAPE into the Piedmont ahead
of the front. Having said that, the models still keep the sbCAPE
south and west of the area. The front will be fairly fast-moving,
which should limit any excessive rain/flood threat. Temps will be
a few deg above normal Tuesday, with increasing clouds and strong
WAA keeping temps elevated Tuesday night thru Wednesday. So it
looks like it will be too warm for any wintry precip type concerns
with this system.

The front should be thru the area by early Thursday, with a little
colder air mass building in and bring temps back down to slightly
below normal Thursday and Friday. Once again, not expecting much
of any overlap of moisture and temps cold enough for snow on the
back side of the system. Neither the GFS nor the ECMWF have any
NW flow snow.

.AVIATION /07Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Dry high pressure will continue to build
over the area overnight and into the morning. The high will be
transient and will be moving offshore by the end of the period
early Sunday. Sct cirrus will continue to stream over the region
from the west with cloud cover increasing later tonight and into
early Sunday. MVFR cigs are fcst to spread over the fcst area
from the SW during the last few hours of the 06z taf period,
but are not expected to go IFR until just after 06z Sunday.
Thus, I have IFR cigs at KCLT beginning around 09z Sunday.
Light winds should help prevent radiation fog from developing
as clouds thin and cooling continues early this morning. In
addition, cold/dry advection should help keep dewpt depressions
too large for any substantial fog development. Winds will remain
light and favor a NLY to NELY direction thru the morning. They
are expected to veer around to SELY by the early afternoon and
remain light at around 5 kts for the rest of the day/evening.

Outlook: Another low pressure system will bring widespread rain
showers and restrictions to our area again beginning late Saturday
night and continuing into Sunday afternoon. Dry high pressure will
filter in behind the departing system early next week.
