ABBEVILLE COUNTY...
    
At 612 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located 7 miles northwest of Abbeville, or 7 miles southeast of
Lake Secession, moving northeast at 35 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 
         shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage 
         to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is 
         likely.

This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of
central Abbeville County, including the following locations...
Antreville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.

If on or near Lake Russell, get away from the water and move to safe 
shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough 
to be struck by lightning. Severe thunderstorms can produce large 
capsizing waves, even on small bodies of water. Move into dock and 
seek safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a 
thunderstorm.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will move to the Carolina coast on Thursday.
Cooler air will begin spilling into the region on Friday, with
additional disturbances arriving over the weekend from the northwest
to reinforce the cooler air across the area. Light snow showers will
be possible across the higher ridges of the North Carolina mountains
over the weekend. Expect warmer weather in the first half of next
week ahead of the next cold front.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 220 PM EDT Wednesday: Widespread showers are still occurring
across the CWA this afternoon amid a warm frontal activation zone
as a broad mid-level trough drifts out of the Midwest and into the
Great Lakes.  There is evidence from satellite imagery that this
feature's surface reflection has begun to occlude over the Great
Lakes, while the attendant cold front remains draped across the
eastern Tennessee Valley.

Over the next few hours, synoptic forcing should wane as the best
DPVA shifts east of the region.  Weak upglide will persist at
the low levels, as southerly 850mb flow continues in association
with a weakening LLJ pushing east across the Upstate and southern
Piedmont.  Though this will continue to provide a moisture flux
into the area, gradual weakening as the jet moves east of the
Appalachians will lead to weakening of WAA and slowing shower
activity by this evening.

Severe risk continues into the evening.  Convection has thus far
underperformed, likely a combined result of synoptic suppression by
the right-front-quadrant of a passing 250mb jet and stabilization
of the low-levels by the prolonged rain that occurred Tuesday night
and Wednesday morning.  Despite CAMs pointing toward 500-700 J/kg
of SBCAPE for the western Piedmont and Upstate, severe risk looks
low-end for the remainder of the afternoon.  Only modest height
falls have been analyzed aloft, result in mid-level lapse rates
that are modest at best, and ongoing rain should continue to hinder
good destabilization.  That said, the eastern Piedmont and Upstate,
primarily along and south of I-85, could still see some stronger
activity late this afternoon.  As destabilization continues and
the 850mb LLJ gradually shifts east, this area will be subject
to a narrow region of overlap between better instability and
residual deep layer shear.  Accordingly, the latest HREF depicts
several stripes of elevated updraft helicity, which could serve
to organize convection across the southeastern tier of the CWA.
A few severe cells remain possible through early evening.

Overnight, as postfrontal air impinges on the region, profiles will
rapidly dry out.  All the CAMs (with the exception of the bullish
and likely overdone NAMnest) depict an end to rain by 01-03Z and
steady clearing after midnight.  Temperatures nonetheless look to
stay 7-9 degrees above normal tonight.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 1215 PM EDT Wednesday: The expected trough passage may be a
bit slower than previously anticipated, leading to a prolonged
period of west to northwest flow atop the region Friday into the
weekend. The upslope flow near the TN border will likely support at
least isolated showers at times, especially north of I-40. Lowering
heights/thicknesses will support well below normal temperatures
especially across the mountains and may support a mixture with or
changeover to snow at times at higher elevations. Still challenging
to pin down the potential for accumulations at the highest
elevations as guidance is struggling with the placement of a potent
short-wave trough Saturday or Saturday night. Decent upper support
and tightening surface pressure gradient will support gusty winds
(possibly reaching advisory level across the mountains). If fuels
dry out fast enough, the gusty winds and drying east of the
mountains may support elevated fire danger. Despite continued wind
into the overnight, Saturday night will be notably cold for this
time of year with lows in the 30s except 20s above 3000 feet and in
sheltered valleys.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 12 PM EDT Wednesday: Near normal forecast confidence takes a
nose dive by mid week as guidance cannot decide how much phasing
occurs with northern and southern stream jets over the central U.S.
Short-wave ridging will support temperatures rebounding to at least
to near normal early in the week. Although one more day of frosty
morning lows is possible Monday, especially for northern areas.
Prolonged dry conditions could lead to elevated fire conditions
should low afternoon relative humidity values prevail. A warm front
lifting north in response to building heights may brush the area
with a myriad of mainly mid to high clouds Monday into Monday night.
Cannot rule out a few sprinkles or showers focused across the
northern mountains during this time. Otherwise, expect mostly sunny
skies to prevail.

Unsettled weather will likely return sometime mid-week (Wednesday or
Thursday), but it may be short lived as the weather pattern becomes
zonal and more progressive. Temperatures will likely peak above
normal before the potential cold front passage midweek.

.AVIATION /20Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Widespread showers and a few rumbles of
thunder continue across the Upstate and NC Piedmont, with the entire
region locked into a swath of MVFR ceilings and more localized areas
of IFR/LIFR restrictions.  Widespread showers should continue for
the next few hours, as unstable profiles promote convection ahead
of an approaching cold front.  Some additional deterioration is
expected this evening, with additional showers at all TAF sites
likely to result in lowered ceilings and reduced visibilities.
For now, advertising mostly prevailing MVFR with periods of IFR.
Have removed mention of thunder from KCLT in favor of +SHRA, as
widespread rainfall and thick stratus early this afternoon may limit
convective potential later this evening.  The Upstate sites retain a
VCTS mention through late evening, at which point conditions slowly
improve through the end of the TAF period.  A return to mostly-VFR
ceilings is anticipated by daybreak Thursday, with perhaps a few
remnant areas of MVFR visibility, especially in the mountains.
Otherwise, winds should gently transition from SSE to SW through
the period, with a shift toward more W/WSW anticipated late in
the day Thursday.

Outlook: Clearing should continue into Friday.  Low-level moisture
and NW flow will bring an increase in clouds and potentially some
light precipitation into the forecast Friday evening into Saturday.
