morning over far eastern Colorado and gusts over Kansas and
Nebraska still expected to ramp up by 11 AM MDT, have pushed the
Red Flag Warning and High Wind Warning to an earlier 9 AM start
time while keeping KS and NE at the 11 AM MDT/12 PM CDT start
time.

Updated the forecast to expire the wind and fire highlights this
evening and to continue them for Wednesday and Thursday as high
winds and critical fire weather conditions return each day.

Across the region this afternoon, with a cold front having passed
through the cwa this morning, all areas are seeing strong
northwesterly flow. Skies are a mix of mainly sunny along/south of
the Interstate, to partly to mostly sunny north. Temperatures are
ranging from the upper 40s in the far west thru the 50s for the
remaining area. Some locales east still remain in the lower 60s.

Weather concerns for the short term period will continue to focus on
the high wind threat, as well as blowing dust and fire wx concerns.

The entire cwa firmly under the influence of strong northerly winds
that have arrived into the area this morning as the cold front
traversed the region. Gusts from 45 to around 60 mph have already
occurred and will persist into the sunset timeframe. Current rh
readings in the upper teens to the lower 20s as forecasted. No
current fires ongoing this afternoon despite ready conditions.
Patchy blowing dust is occurring in spots and will persist thru the
high wind period around sunset. Guidance continue to show some
lessening of the winds overnight, but still impactful in the 20-30
mph range with some gusts around 45 mph.

Going into Wednesday, little change expected from guidance for
conditions across the cwa compared to yesterday. Strong northerly
flow will remain thru the day, intensifying some during the
afternoon. The threat for blowing dust as well as fire wx concerns
during the afternoon remain as well. Have kept the High Wind/Red
Flag Warnings intact for the area tomorrow. As with tonight,
Wednesday night will see conditions slacken some, but still
impactful.

On Thursday, compared to yesterday at this time, guidance showing
winds will remain intact during the day, with low rh readings
comparable to today and Wednesday. With winds around 60 mph for
gusts, have continued mention of blowing dust, as well as issuing a
Fire Weather Watch and High Wind Watch for the area for the late
morning hours into the early evening. The stronger winds will
subside during the evening hours Thursday night.

For temps, highs on Wednesday will range from the upper 40s through
the upper 50s. Warmest areas east of Kansas Highway 25. Slightly
warmer on Thursday with lower to mid 50s area-wide. Lows in the
short term period will range in the upper 20s west through the mid
30s in the east for tonight and Wednesday night, and for Thursday
night mainly 20s expected. Some locales east of Highway 83 could be
around 30F.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Tuesday)

Friday will be a transitional day as the upper low finally pulls
away and shortwave ridging builds in from the west. Winds will
finally diminish but still expecting breezy north winds and
afternoon humidity minimums below 20 percent. As a result, fire
weather may once again be a concern, but hard to pin down elevated
versus critical conditions just yet. High temperatures will be
around 60 with lows Friday night around 30.

Upper ridge axis will move into the central plains on Saturday,
which will be the warmest day of the period. High temperatures
currently forecast in the upper 70s, but might tack on a few more
degrees with downsloping southwesterly winds. Fire weather will
continue to be a concern, as the warmer temperatures will result
in very low afternoon humidity and wind speeds will be close to
critical criteria.

Next upper disturbance will be in the northern Rockies on Sunday
followed by a second and stronger system on Tuesday. The track of
these systems is a little further south compared to the one impacting
the region this week. As a result, will see precipitation chances
beginning Sunday night and into Monday in northeast Colorado with
the first, and weaker, system, then better chances for the rest
of the region on Tuesday. Precipitation will be mainly rain, but
might see a brief rain/snow mix Monday night in western portions
of the area as temperatures fall into the lower 30s. The later
system will also be accompanied by a period of strong northerly
winds, but timing in the models varies from Tuesday night into
Wednesday as to when those winds might occur. Temperatures will
generally be above normal for Sunday through Tuesday, perhaps
closer to normal by Tuesday depending on strength and timing of
the cold front. Fire weather risk may also finally begin to abate
by Sunday with less wind and slightly higher humidity working
their way into the area.

VFR conditions will continue at MCK and GLD through the 06Z TAF
period. Gusty northwest winds early this evening subsided at the
TAF sites by late this evening and should remain at those lower
speeds through much of the remaining overnight hours. Strong
gusty northwest winds and blowing dust will return after 14Z at
both locations with winds increase through the day on Wednesday.
By 15Z, northwest winds will be gusting around 45kts with gusts as
high as 52kts by 17Z. Blowing dust may bring visibility values
below 6 miles depending upon the availability of dust source
regions, so have kept the mention of visibility with blowing dust
at 6sm for now. Strong winds will subside again Wednesday evening
after 01Z.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...

For Wednesday, both a High Wind Warning and a Red Flag Warning
remain in effect for all counties. Yuma, Kit Carson,and Cheyenne
counties in Colorado will begin at 9 AM MDT, while the counties in
Kansas and Nebraska will start at 11 AM MDT or 12 PM CDT and
continue through the early evening for all counties. Gusts in the 60
to 70 mph range are possible. Areas of blowing dust may lower
visibility down to 1 to 3 miles. Hazardous traveling conditions are
expected.

For Thursday, a High Wind Watch and a Fire Weather Watch have
been issued for the entire Tri State area for the late morning
hours into early evening. Northwesterly gusts up to 60 mph are
possible. Blowing dust may lower visibility down to 1 to 3 miles.
Hazardous traveling conditions are expected.

Elevated fire weather conditions are possible for the afternoon
hours on Friday and Saturday.
