KEY MESSAGES:

1. Arctic air arrival produces wind chill headaches into Thursday.
2. Rollercoaster ride in temperatures continues into the weekend.
3. Little to no QPF in the forecast for next 7 to 10 days.

THIS AFTERNOON:  Gusty northwest winds continue to advect colder air
southeast this afternoon.  Temperatures that had fallen into the
lower 20s to teens by mid-day, have only risen a few degrees this
afternoon.  Wind gusts continue to slowly subside, though with an
increased SPG, breezy sustained winds continue.

TONIGHT:  Temperatures will slowly fall off this evening.  With the
core of the surface high pressure well north of the area, most of
the temperature falls will be due to advection of the airmass over
northwestern North Dakota.  This would suggest low temperatures fall
into the single digits above zero, to perhaps near -10 along the
Buffalo Ridge.  Cirrus will be increasing after midnight south of I-
90 and this could slow the fall of temps slightly. Regardless, wind
chill headlines will be needed along areas with snow cover tonight
and into Wednesday morning.

WEDNESDAY: Surface high pressure will slide into eastern North
Dakota during the day tomorrow.  With the CWA still on the southern
pressure gradient, sustained winds will stay elevated through the
day.  Temperatures struggle to rise above zero over the Ridge, with
highs in the teens towards the Missouri River.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday Night through Tuesday)

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: With the core of high pressure sliding just east of
the CWA by Thursday night, our surface winds will generally turn to
the east.  The best radiational cooling will take place east of I-
29, where lows may fall into the teens below zero.  Further west,
lows should still fall a few degrees below zero.  One thing to watch
will be the influx of low-mid clouds moving in from the west late in
the night.  This could serve as a stabilizing or blanket preventing
a sharper drop in some locations.  Wind chill headlines may again be
needed over the Buffalo Ridge areas into Thursday.

THURSDAY-FRIDAY: Temperatures stay cold ahead of another shortwave
dropping down the western flank of a larger upper trough centered
over Hudson Bay.  Expecting highs to remain 10 to 20 degrees below
normal as yet another Canadian high pressure area drops southward.
Friday will be very similar to Thursday as we remain in a favorable
pattern for repeated shortwave energy moving in from the North-
Northwest. Despite low-lvl warm advection increasing through the
day, temperatures may struggle to climb back towards normal. In
fact, latest NBM may be a touch too warm and future guidance may
trend slightly colder.   Medium range models do suggest a linear
area of low-lvl clouds associated with the passage of the upper
trough to move through the area during the day Friday.  Rather
minimal chances for accumulating precipitation, but could see some
flurries in lower stratus.

SATURDAY-SUNDAY:  A stronger upper trough leaves the Pacific
Northwest and enters the Plains this weekend.  Lee side troughing
will induce breezy to strong west to southwesterly winds on
Saturday. Temperatures respond by warming through the night and
eventually climbing above normal in most locations by Saturday
afternoon. Something to watch will be the potential increase in fire
weather concerns due to the gusty winds, lowering RH, and warm
temperatures. A cold front and mid-lvl moisture axis will move
through early Sunday, potentially bring a risk for
sprinkles/flurries to the region.  Temperatures on Sunday fall near
to below normal with the increasing northerly winds.

MONDAY-TUESDAY: It really is a broken record into next week as the
overall synoptic pattern shows no signs of relenting. Higher than
normal confidence on warmer than normal temperatures and dry
conditions moving into the middle of next week.

VFR conditions throughout the TAF period expected. Areas
currently under broken or overcast skies will remain so until
daybreak, with cloud coverage expanding northwards slowly
throughout the day. Some of the guidance is suggesting a thin MVFR
stratus deck will develop during the overnight hours which would
affect areas along and east of I-29, but confidence in this
occurring is low so will not include in the TAFs at this time.
Winds will remain breezy, becoming marginally gusty during the
afternoon hours on Wednesday.
